Excellent essay on the Welles film. Honestly, F FOR FAKE is one of my favourite films, along with other Welles films - MACBETH, OTHELLO, TOUCH OF EVIL.

Welles was a maverick supreme, and also a passionate dramatist and performance artist. This film is uniquely his and, of course, brilliant.

This film is a secret gem. Not too many know about it. I watched it while in high school and love it, but then again I’m a major Welles fan

Just completed the movie; and though many probably have seen the famous and justly acclaimed Charters Cathedral scene, it’s brilliant in many other ways. There’s of course the Oja Kodar sequences, the first scene from the perspective of the many and the second through that of Picasso. Then there are the other parts of the movie I like, like the striking opening, and the “stop-motion” scenes which embody the spirit of trickery the movie is abiut

That parting line made me think of something. Can you imagine if Welles had lived another, say 15 years? He could've earned his living in voice acting, putting his baritone to use in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES where serious writers like Dini and Timm would've given him actual pathos and drama to sink his teeth into. He would've been there for the New American Indie Revival where he might've been able to use the Sundance/Cannes circuit to release his films as well as get small pivotal acting roles in serious movies both in the US and Europe. That last 10 years of this hypothetical life might've been the justice he'd been looking for for so long.

Please tell me that this is hinting at a collaboration between Netflix and Criterion for a physical release of The Other Side of The Wind

Thomas Wilson Laurier I think it’s more promotional for Won’t You Be My Neighbor and it’s Oscar buzz.

i would love that and have "they'll love me when i'm dead" as part of the set but not as an extra but something of its own.

Watched F For Fake for the first time last night. Frankly, the technical merits of the filmmaking didn’t overcome my not giving a shit about Elmyr, Clifford, or the subject matter. That said, the last 20 minutes and the first 5 minutes were highly entertaining.
