Under Trudeau, the civil service has grown twice as fast as Canada’s population

The size of the civil service has exploded during the Trudeau Liberals’ nine years in power: growing more than 43 per cent, even though the country’s population has grown by less than 15 per cent in the same period.
As of March 31, the federal government’s payroll included 367,772 persons, according to data just published by the federal Treasury Board. On March 31, 2015, the last full fiscal year that the Harper Conservatives were in power, the civil service population was 257,034. That’s an average annual growth rate of more than 3.6 per cent per year or double Canada’s average annual population growth in the same period of about 1.6 per cent.
The civil service grew by more than six per cent in both 2021 and 2023. By comparison, the size of the civil service shrank in each of the last five years the Harper Conservatives were in power.

The CRA has 55000 employees for a population of 40M, the US IRS has 94000 employees for a population of 340M. This suggests a CRA employee is only 20% as productive as an IRS employee. We need to raise our hiring standards.

@zomgoose
@zomgoose 2 ай бұрын
@@shawnfoogle920 There are homeless migrants living in tent cities. They have also crammed into houses and condos, living in squalor. The rapid population increase has made it much more difficult for Canadians to afford rental shelter. The slowing economy can not keep up with the artificial population growth. Canadians are having problems getting jobs. The unemployment rate is much higher fit migrants. There are migrant panhandlers on the streets. This will be a financial and social burden for Canadians.

I have indian friends who have been here a 1st and 2nd generations and they HATE the abhorrent misuse of our "immigration" (if you can call it that) programs and policies via options such as TFW, student visas and refugee claimant etc.. Mostly because they come here and have no intention to integrate what-so ever. People need to understand that foreign international students don't intend to return home. Its not like us Canadians going to school abroad... They intend to stay, work and send remittance home and same goes with TFWs from the Philippines whom start having babies to become naturalized citizens as quickly as possible. I've seen and heard rehetoric from the other side, as I've work with some of these "new" immigrants and its like this: 1. They don't feel bad because India was effed over by the same Brits (they consider anything commonwealth, Britain) 2. They know their over populated 3. They call "Canadians" or more specifically "whities" in Punjabi - idiots for all their handouts, which include food banks, social programs and they will take advantage of all of them, because - well they are there for the taking. *NOTE of all immigrants who have been here >10 years, 33% of them are still on some social program. 4. The government here - or more specifically, the "Liberals", whom Sikhs are outspoken to support - they will continue vote for. This is why the Liberals are so so sympathetic to their cause and the liberation of Khalistan. This should NOT be any political party's or representative's public views and even more shamful that its clear they lean on this narrative for votes. It angers me that basically under the cover of Covid, the liberals have crowd-sourced their votes by opening the flood gates to people who come to Canada to take, rather than enrich.

...and yet, there are still not enough people to serve Canadians - over the last 40 years, we have seen a huge increase in middle and senior managers, but fewer people who actually serve Canadians - it's not the number of public servants, it's the type - and the era of the "generic manager" means there is a high turnover of managers and little continuity which means they don't really understand what is needed, while the beleaguered understaffed front-line workers, who understand what is needed and what works, are the ones that get cut. Perhaps dig into the details of things and not just spew the superficial austerity rhetoric that does not give Canadians a realistic picture of what is actually happening. Whenever the government needs to cut, the first thing everyone points to is the public service, when they are a very tiny part of the budget.

Government is far too big and expensive. Where does the funding for all these expensive public salaries come from? The taxpayers! Canada is going in the wrong direction. The private sector must be strengthened and grow much more than the public sector. Real, true growth and innovation comes from the private sector. Not government.

People act surprised which is strange and I do not understand why . It is how governments add to the job creation statistics . While the private sector has had to do more with less for the past 3 or 4 decades the governments and public sector do less with more . If you do not create your own wealth you have no common sense in spending it. The mantra is in the public sector you show you need more and your budget is increased DO NOT show a surplus ever , in the private sector you need to show relevance and value to get more No surprise .
