Heartland Country Life: Campfire Cooking Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler

Come join me cooking over the campfire in this week's summer episode! I have been dreaming of making this strawberry rhubarb cobbler recipe since winter. It tasted just how I remembered: sweet, gooey, and delicious! The gentle fire crackling and morning bird sounds are the perfect music. Then, I'll bring you with into the garden to pull some weeds and gather herbs to dry for making teas and herbal medicine.

Growing up in the 1950’s my family had a home and a rental house with a large backyard that was an orchard. It had a small patch of rhubarb. There were trees that provided an abundance of fruit such as pears, peaches, blue and red plums, and the entire perimeter was lined with tart cherry trees. My mother was a fantastic cook and baker. She topped many kuchens with fruit and thick cream from a local farmer. There was a Concord grape vine that was my favorite. But her strawberry rhubarb pies were a special treat. I long got those days when good food was abundant and made with love. You can’t buy that in any store. ❤

Look at all that sugar you put in. ahhhhhhh! I always love these open fire cooking recipes you do. It's been a bit since you last did one! They are fun but I am sure they are a load of work, plus with the heat already outside on top of the fire's heat, it must be a bit much on your energy. Love your overalls by the way!

You can, but I think it ruins the flavor and texture! I just shake them and check for bugs/remove any browning leaves
