The reason the one sprayer releases pressure is to ensure that the user doesn't get a blast of product on them if they remove cup without depressurizing the unit. You get into a rhythm spray fill, spray fill, then you forget to release pressure and bam you are water prof. Good review. It has help me decided what type a unit I want / need.
@RepairGeek19 күн бұрын
I don't necessarily agree only because the Lemmer dumps pressure once you spin the canister about 1/16th of a turn. I agree about getting covered in product from a pressurized container but, the engineering could be better and it would be a non issue.

I reside in Upstate New York State. We get the most snow of any State in the lower 48. We deal with mega tons of road salt, brine and calcium chloride. I undercoat with lanolin products on my trucks. My complaint is that it is difficult to transfer the product into the small opening of the spray bottle. The sprayer manufacturers should take the lead from the mayonnaise bottle makers. Seeing that the lanolin undercoating products are a similar consistency of mayonnaise, they should make the undercoating spray bottled opening the same width as the mayonnaise jars.

The gun is amazing I think because it also keeps pressure over hours in the pot. it is quite similar to your last one shown, also weirdly small opening but that's ok. I wouldn't want to use anything else anymore. buy cheap, buy twice. and only coat yourself

I bought the RP460 (I call it the Mack-Daddy) and start with the longest hose to spray inside all frame and body cavities then spray the outside of the frame and underside of the box/cab. I use lots of product and apply it fairly thick everywhere. I had 4 other sprayers already when I bought it and threw out some of them after using the RP460. It is the best at getting the most thick product the furthest into the cavities where it is needed most. Don’t cheap out here guys. It is an investment. Spread the cost out over doing 1-2 vehicles per year for ten years and it is sooo worth it.

Yea, but for those of us who are only doing 1-2 vehicles per year, it aint worth the price difference. You're literally spraying goop on the bottom of the car. Get that shit on there and be done with it, don't need some fancy spray pattern when in a week its going to be all black with dirt and oil and shit anyways. Professional wise I could see the argument for time saved, but for the typical DIY'er who's just getting under their car and glooping that shit on to keep their shitbox from turning into a rusted shitbox, who gives a shit if it saves you an extra 5 minutes or so?

I have the same lemmer rp460hd I bought this fall for my own diy stuff. I haven’t had an issue spraying fluid film with it, although I like it good and thick under there. It’s my own so I paint it on good. I have been able to get it dialed down enough for light application with the air pressure and trigger modulation. The screw on the back is actually not air it’s for the fluid needle spring pressure you can have set so hardly anything comes out. I also pretty much exclusively spray with the wands for everything and don’t use the fan tips. The smaller smaller 90 degree one will spray out less than the Deluxe one. The one thing I do miss is a second container as I was running black and clear fluid film. My clear I had a 5 gallon pump but the black I was trying was just in the gallon cans so it was a little awkward to pour in. I was quoted at $120 for another pressure container which I’m debating on because I think I am going to switch to black for everything minus some visibly panel areas around doors and such.

About compressors: You can get away with using a small single stage air compressor for something like this. Something like 4.7 or 5 gal works fine as long as its the kind with 2 tanks. I forget what you call them, but if you set them up properly they work like a 2stage and they will run a cup gun or gravity feed just fine. I used to spray contact adhesive through a cup gun with this setup, so I know it will work with undercoat.

I personally own the lemer 460 and the only thing I agree with what you said was that you can't adjust the fluid volume though. The rest your off base. Its primary job as a professional gun is to be used with wands. I recommend switching the gun and attachments to regular sized air fittings as there easier to come by and much cheaper. I've made many wands and by saying where the small angle one will fit in comparison to the deluxe swivel one is off the small one works great for getting in door bottom holes I went as far as cutting my small wand at a 45 degree right at the bend and smashed it together so it fits in the small door holes and atomizes to a very fine spray. I've put NH Oil, fluid film, and some wk sealout which isn't availible to the regular public. It's a great gun it's built to a much better standard then the other ones. It's not built for doing the entire underside of a car. It's built for cavities and crevices.

What about using an inexpensive (200-300$) airless sprayer (up to 3000psi)?
@RepairGeek Жыл бұрын
I've heard good things about using one of those. I've never used one myself.

It just started snowing here in upstate ny, and they already salted. I want to undercoat my truck, do I have to wash the whole underside and let it dry? Or am I able to undercoat it if there is salt on it?
@so23152 жыл бұрын
I would wash it off, leaving it on and then spraying just entraps the salt against the frame. And 6 months later when the woolwax is gone the salt may rear it's ugly head.

Can I spray cosmoline rp 342 with the wool wax gun, or is it going to throw too much material? All my experience is with airless pumps, as a painting contractor, never really played with hvlp's. Definitely think a wand will be necessary. 2002 2500hd silverado Dmax, almost done wire wheeling surface rust. Washington state, so not as bad as you get it, but they've started using that corrosive de-icer in the last 5-10 years.

I've sprayed LPS3 (similar thin viscosity) out of the woolwax gun 4 or 5 years ago... Never again... TONS of overspray, my floor was all sticky for weeks. That isn't the right gun to spray that stuff. I would call RP342 and see what they recommend.

@@RepairGeek: Thanks for the reply. I opted for the rattle cans, and gonna try an uprok adapter, to fit the fluid film wand, for the boxed in frame sections, after I treat the scraped off sections, with some rust kutter, converter. Decided on surface shield for inside rockers, behind the body plugs. I've got holes rusting through under my rear doors on both sides, from the inside, and want to be able to wash it out, to cut and weld patch panels in after snowmobile season. The rockers, and door bottoms were bed linered by original owner, so I didn't see it till I had some soft spots. Honestly we never used to have the rust issues here in Wa. So it really just didn't occur to me, until the last couple years. Spare tire carrier cross member, was the only area that had any real scale chunks.

any chance I can use my magnum x5 airless sprayer for this? thank you.
@RepairGeek2 жыл бұрын
Probably but you'll want to make it a dedicated undercoating sprayer afterwards. I have no idea how these oils are going to react with paints.

Did you end up using your Graco? If so how did it work and how was the cleaning process? We're you able to get everything out without having fish eyes when spraying paint later?

@@Ko3n3k33 I have not yet. Planning on using it to undercoat a trailer once I get the trailer.

What do you use to clean out the sprayer, tips and wands?
@RepairGeek Жыл бұрын
Nothing. These lanolin products don't dry. So you can spray a car, put the gun on the shelf and come back to it a year later. No issues.

What do you use to clean the sprayer?
@RepairGeek2 жыл бұрын
I dont clean them. Any of the lanolin products don't dry so I can put them on a shelf, come back to it 6 months later and they still work perfect. As far as cleaning is concerned I wipe the outside off with a rag. That's my gun cleaning regimen haha.

I usually use my hands or pour it over from the roof and let it drip in. On a hot day, it gets in all the cracks.

I'm not a big paint guy. I have no opinion on paint sprayers.
