Neither do 99.99% of those in ALL areas of behavioral health, whether they're a psychiatrist, psychologist, MFCC, social worker, LMFF, etc. Those people (who work in the areas of behavioral health) are some of the most toxic, harmful and messed up people anywhere. People generally go into the helping professions field to "solve" their own problems and help themselves, not so much others; they drink the Kool-Aide--deluding themselves and others--by claiming that they want to "help" people. In fact, behavioral healthcare is a sick and twisted, poorly regulated "profession", full of toxic predators. "Life coaches" are the flunkies who don't take their role seriously enough to even bother seeking "appropriate" professional training (which is still questionable at best).

To be fair, I've been traumatized by registered medical social workers, therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health professionals just as much as life coaches and spiritual advisors. 😂 Just want to be honest with you. I have intersecting marginalized identities and I understand now that's why they all hurt me so much, I wasn't receiving patient centered or trauma informed care at all. It was all the stuff for privileged people which is like the worst treatment you can give to someone who ticks multiple marginalized boxes. I had so many conflicting messages and no representation. Therapy can be just as damaging as life coaches. It just depends on who is involved. It's good to know who you are before you seek care but mostly it's important to find someone who let's you be you. The issue with mental health professionals is they can make life so much worse if you are considering self harm. Often their approach is unhelpful and traumatizing in my experience. Where as a life coach, if you get one that mostly just listens, validates you and reminds you what in life is worth living for, will not take that approach. They'll practice non judgmental witnessing. Many people need that. I need that. I need to express myself without worrying the cops will show up at my door since they're more likely to shoot me than help me. There is no one size fits all. In Canada we don't have the luxury of switching from mental health professional to mental health professional because of our ineffective system. But if you have some cash, you can with life coaches. But neither of those options works if they won't let you be who you are. They have to give you the space to figure out what is best for you. Ultimately you are the one who has to live with your choices, only you can truly know what is best for you. And if you don't know now, with good support, you will know later. ♥ Lead with love ♥

I definitely believe there is a gap between counseling and coaching. However, I’d expect a life coach to have a successful life themselves. When your life coach appears to need a life coach ( the woman whose office is a table at the local cafe ), you might want to get a different life coach.

the fact that people are on the look for a life coach is a sign they should not go to a 'life coach' but a psychologist. Because no one in their right mind would go to someone not from any recognized institutions for help with their life. But, we now live in a serious problematic time where people are left without ressources of any kind, in a recession that is gonna and is hitting hard, where there is a waiting list of a year before seeing a psychologist and that is IF your problem is very serious and life threatening. The real problem is the lack of ressources to support the people because the government has lose control on this capitalist jungle where the people are becoming more and more just a number. So people try to find help in desperate ways...not in the right and secured way.

Question is why are people falling for this? In a free market they have a choice and yet they go to something inferior, why? Why don't they chose to go to someone licensed? Somewhere the therapist community must ask this question and perhaps step up their marketing. There's also the cost aspect, the insurance and availability which all detracts from the final experience no matter how genuine.

This so-called completely unregulated “profession” needs to be brought to accountability. It has caused so much pain to people. It is all about coaches coaching wannabe coaches how to become coaches who in turn go on to coach wannabe coaches how to become coaches.

Life coaching helps others to accomplish goals. We are not Therapist in any manor. Have a goal you wish to reach? We can help you get there by helping others figure out a path for themselves while keeping them accountable. This is coaching.

I see this in financial industry as well. People misleading people saying they are certified or licensed when in fact they are not... I went to see this "advisor" at a nearby bank branch (one of big banks in Canada) to get some advice and this woman didn't seem to speak much English and confirmed she's a certified advisor only to find out that the only certification is university degree from some unknown university in her mother country that is a developing country...

This is bigger than ever now. An updated video would be great. As the admin of several groups on Facebook totalling about half a million in the targeted market of most “life coaches” I get daily messages and friend requests and dozens of join requests a day trying to sign people up to have a “financially abundant lifestyle” or while claiming to be an expert in particular industries yet not actually knowing anything about tax but just vomiting out “positive affirmations”. “Positive affirmations, breathing exercises, chanting, imagination tapping and removing negative influencers” isn’t going to tell someone how to safely do a job or send an invoice. All these Miss Ruby tri level gold standard accredited ceo entrepreneur first class marketing mentor coaches needs to take a look at themselves, put there money where their mouth is and stop talking about themselves. It’s weird.

People have trauma because of the suffering they have done. But with every hardship, there's a lesson and every lesson must be applied because you can use the lesson you learn when that challenge comes again with you. Your thinking is applied to your behaviour you must learn how to adjust yourself.

Well if you say you will go to A, B, or C but you are afraid of change or not willing to commit change you will never get away from depression but if you accept risk and that risk or hardship give you a solution to achieve peace of mind you must deal with it. You get depressed because you keep thinking the same thing and have no change. You should change the way you think and try something else to see the solution. STOP FORCING THAT DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE IT IS NOT SUIT FOR YOU.

Great question. I think it really just comes down to a gut feeling about a person and just trusting your gut. If you feel uneasy about the person, back out. Trust your gut

I am a certified life coach. If anyone ever comes to me with a mental illness, I will immediately tell them to see a licensed mental health expert whether it's a psychiatrist or a psychologist.

I had a housemate who was a life coach. She genuinely did not know how to change toilet rolls or change a lightbulb, and didn’t pick up any of the garbage she dropped, couldn’t remember to lock the door when she went out, etc. she was, in short, a complete moron, and was terribly selfish. She got annoyed at any request to modify her behavior. She charged gullible people $200/hour for her wisdom.

There are some terrible grifters in this industry and no one regulating it with oversight. The ethics are absent and the harm caused to people is real.

Maybe if the wait list to see a therapist wasn’t 2 years long then these people wouldn’t have to turn to “life coaches” I’m sure most of the people who use them would rather get a therapist but don’t feel like waiting years.
@mackenzie98652 жыл бұрын
Where do you live that it's a two year wait? There's immediate help available in my province and much of it is subsidised.

Whatever your heart tells you to want to be you must go for it. It is your freedom to achieve happiness for yourself. Don't be mean for what your heart tells you or else you will suffer. If you are scared of what other people tell you that is out of your control. But if you focus on what makes you happy and let them be because you know that you have your own choice and freedom to achieve happiness for yourself. If you are focusing on what makes you happy the state of your thinking will drive you into positive behaviour and you will have more confidence in yourself.

He was not trauma informed. On one hand he was right when he said he couldn't treat anxiety, but he was wrong by treating it anyway. I think its important for the coach to share what additional training they have with their certification and limitation. Unless they have a psychology degree or a counselling credential they should not treat any form of illness. Just stick to goal setting and find out the block. If the block is traumatic, work with the therapist.
