He's been really good, but im less worried after thinking about it. Campbell helped him create this offense on the fly after firing Lynn last year and was calling the plays for him to start too. Goff has had a lot of input as well. It would hurt to lose him, but honestly I think they'd be ok

@Andrew Collins Stafanski only had a year and Zach Taylor never coordinated. NFL is a copycat league and bad teams are looking at the Bengals as a turnaround model. Depends on how the playoffs go, but if you see young coaches doing well the trend of hiring inexperienced young guys could continue.

Lions just have really good players across the roster. And most of them are sub 25 yrs old. Goff, Williams, Swift, Decker, Jackson, Ragnow, Sewell, St Brown, Jamo, Hutch, McNeil, Rodriguez, Walker, Okudah and Joseph. All quality players. Ben Johnson is likely the best coordinator the Lions have every had and one of the best in the league.

To be clear. WCF’s wife Mrs. Ford gave the keys to Sheila Ford. She in turn took making the Lions a winning team to heart. She got good advice and brought in Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell as together as they could. They are a package deal. Then Sheila gave them the keys to the kingdom and backed every move. Madman Brad and MCDC tore down the team, including Stafford and started building from the foundation up. We now begin to see the fruits of those labors.

That play-action toss slant TD was beautiful. The connected playcalling and all the setups leading up to that TD. Chef’s kiss. I’ve been telling everyone that the Lions OL has been balling all year. I’m glad Josh McCown highlighted specifics as to how the Lions as a team have been blocking. FB, TE, even the WRs have been willing blockers all year. Jamo specifically has a crack that helped the Lions score a TD. A lot of stud WRs are too diva to block the way Lions WRs have been blocking

I really think Goffs footwork adjustment affected him early on but he is starting to relax Into it now. One thing I overlooked is how good he is at reading progressions.
@TheCancelCult Жыл бұрын
He's calmed down a lot and worries less about mistakes. Especially throwing interceptions. It seems like this offense is built to give him the confidence he needs to make down field throws and not check down every single play. The running game, the backs being healthy and demanding respect. The O line, healthy, playing run and protect well. The WRs, getting open short, mid, and deep. It's a QBs dream scenario and Goff is taking advantage. The game seems slower for him compared to last season.
@Chris-cv1yh Жыл бұрын
Spot on. If you notice he's stepping up in the pocket a lot better when under pressure. He was creating pressure for the defense earlier in the year by dropping back too far, but he made a comment about intentionally working on that and he's improved

Amazing break down gents. Very pleased to see that the Lions aren't dumb-lucking their way into a win-streak or winning coin toss games; they're winning by changing the culture, attitude, draft mentality at the line, coaching & intelligent scheming to put our players in spots to succeed and win games. Love it. I just hope when Ben J. eventually departs it isn't to a NFC North counterpart and we don't revert back to our Anthony Flynn level offensive performance.

Yes sir what goes around comes around. Smash 💥 Mouth 👄 Football 🏈. Lions are using their defenders speed against themselves. Dare I say that this is the most complete and effective that a Lions O-line has looked since 1991? Back then, they had perennial All-Pros in Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover, and two solid young guards in Mike Utley and the late Eric Andolsek. If not for Fate, I don't think people would claim that Barry never had a good line to run behind. I haven't followed the Lions/ NFL as closely as I once did for the past 15 years, so if anyone can set me straight, by all means.
@Hellcat_Jack Жыл бұрын
And the way Barry always had to scramble around, those dudes were neither as efficient nor as effective as the offensive linemen we have today. I still remember the comparisons of o-lines during those hotly contested Barry vs Emmitt debates, where the first thing mentioned was how ineffective Barry’s o-line was……bet he’d do almost anything to have had this line back then
@helmedon Жыл бұрын
The reason for their success is Amon-Ra is always open. I think all the Lions receivers complement each other. Amongst what makes it go, but concentrating on him opens deep routes for Chark and Williams. Chark picking his game up the last few games has been huge.

People, at least myself and people I know, really miss physical offensive football. We are all rooting for the Lions to do something to show that you can still win with a physical offense. The exotic run schemes are Dan Campbells and Lions O-Line coach Henry Franklin Fraley Jr's. The tight formations Lions run out of scream Sean McVay's playbook that Jared Goff ran in LA. Yes Ben calls the plays that Jared can change at the line. So many teams run McVay's, not Shanahan's system including the Rams, Packers, Bangles, Geno Smith in Seattle did while Tampa and Chicago Bears with new OC Shane Waldron will this year. The concept is to stretch the field sideline to sideline which is half of the West Coast system. The difference with the 49ers is they also stretch the field vertically and why McVay wanted a gunslinger like Stafford to deliver the ball deep.

I'm an old man who grew up playing power football. Our Coaches preached to us the importance of owning the lines of scrimmage. Football is nothing more than a game of Chess. Winning means owning the line of scrimmage and understanding the game, and when the players have talent... hold on! The NFL left power football schemes for speed long ago. The question is, can power Football not just hold its own competing with speed, can it win Supperbowls?? This is one old man who thinks it can. ps the Lions now have Jamo back to the mix, and he has tones of speed. I think that the NFL is going to watch Ben Johnson open a brand new play book full of new play schemes that haven't even been cracked yet! Just my opinion though, see ya on the field!

I know it’s 5 months and he’s been signed… No doubt I was a little concerned! However, I felt Aaron Glenn would take or been offered a head coaching position rather than Johnson. Few reasons being, yeah he’s 36, not a big deal. The big thing is that he only has less than 1 1/2 years heading the OC position. So yeah he’s good at scheming and seems he’s well liked with his offensive guys but to overtake the whole team and be the man overlooking and making sure whats the plan on this drive with the OC, DC, what ST is doing…He will be with the Lions for a couple more years.

So San Francisco and Baltimore seem to have the best defenses this year. Cleveland was number one for a while but I can't see how because the games I saw them play in their defense gave up over 30 points. They still won the game because they're offense can score points but I'm just wondering those really good defenses, what are they doing that are shutting teams down? And why doesn't the rest of the league watch what they're doing week to week and try to change their defense to what they're doing
