The rules specify that as illegal contact, you get a personal foul penalty, or roughing the *insert relevant position*. *If football is a contact sport, why can't I hit the QB on the sideline while his team's Defense is on the field?* (that's you, that's what you sound like asking that stupid question). From an athletic/physicality standpoint there are plenty of NBA players who could train, transition, and be moderately successful in the NFL. From a skills standpoint, there are only a few. Also the body types don't match up. Guys like Steven Adams are built perfectly to play football, but he's too tall, his knees wouldn't survive more than 3 weeks of the NFL season. On the other hand, basketball is much more dependent on basketball proficiency, NFL players aren't going to train for an offseason and all the sudden be proficient enough at shooting, passing and dribbling to actually play in the NBA. Defensively, however, a DB would be a menace on the basketball court, the ability to make reads, blow up plays from the weak side, block shots, etc. Also, I feel like football players would have an easier time adapting to basketball tactics than basketball players would be adapting to football tactics, at the same time, the continuous fast paced play would be an issue for football players given football stops every play.

@@Opium64 I was saying the same thing. NBA players can play football from an athletic aspect, but their bodies aren't ideal. Steven Adams has a great build for football, but he's too tall, his knees wouldn't last. However, Miami Lebron would be a perfect TE, but his body wouldn't be conditioned for the constant collisions. Also, aint no way a NFL player in 1 offseason could train and develop adequate basketball skills to be a successful offensive player, dribbling, passing, shooting at NBA level is not something you can develop in a few months. But the same goes for bball>football, a basketball players couldn't condition their body in 1 offseason to handle the constant physicality at the NFL level.

LeBron James who was timed at 4.60 in the 40 yard dash at age 28 would be a fantastic TE. Ja Morant with his leaping ability and speed would be a great WR or CB. There are many NBA players that could athletically play in the NFL. It would take some time to get accustomed to the physicality and at least some NBA players would be able to get accustomed to the physicality and some would quit. It would be easier for NBA players to get accustomed to the physicality of the NFL than it would be for NFL players to develop their skills for the NBA.

I tried out for the Dallas Cowboys in 2001 as a tight end NBA players could not go into the NFL and play. It’s not just about running the route. It’s about knowing how to come off the ball if the defensive player is lined up on your inside shoulder, but you gotta run a dig. How do you get off the ball if he’s on your outside shoulder and you have to run an out how do you get him to take the inside step with you so that you can run the route without showing that that’s the route that you’re running, if you gotta run a fly, he’s playing deep. How do you draw him up so that you can get open on the fly? It’s not easy for every one play there’s five audibles according to defense if they’re in a nickel if they’re a man to man, but they’re not showing Man to man if they’re in zone but it looks like they’re in Man to man coverage They’re in a 3-4 4-3 a 5-2 It’s very complex very complex. That’s why in that movie little Giants the kid says it Football is 90% mental and 10% physical..
