The beautiful thing about B&W film is the developing! One of the reasons I love the flatter film stocks is that you can literally add as much contrast to the photos during the developing process. It's also as easy as making pancakes.

@@SISSI_LU Fortunately, for us digital shooters, we can “see” in B&W through the EVF or display screen. This certainly helps train our mind to see in B&W. That’s how I mostly use my Fuji X100V, monochrome JPG and raw. 📷🙂 PS: I started with B&W film as a kid in the 60’s, then developing and printing as a teen in the 70’s. Now, all these years later, I seem to have come full circle shooting B&W with my Fuji after a long spell of colour point and shoot including the ever present iPhone.

This is the first video of yours I've seen and you now have a new subscriber. :) Beautiful photographs you made and shared with us, thank you. And I appreciate getting to see some photos made on films I have not used before. All that said, I liked most of all what you had to say about your thinking and use of BW, it is always helpful to me to hear another viewpoint. I'm mainly a BW film shooter and over the years I have settled on HP5 as my primary film. It helps, for me, to stick with one film. It lets me focus on what I'm trying to get onto the negative and, once I've used a film for a while, means I can give a bit more concentration or mental energy to making the photo I want to make. Thank you for sharing this self challenge with us! And, congrats on the visa!

Great video! I once made myself this challenge and I kinda never went back to color 😅. The more I shoot BW the more I figure me out complex is shooting this way. When you don't have color in the equation you pay much more attention on how the light shapes everything. Your next step should be shooting BW with color filters, so you can use the colors as a way to increase contrast, they are very fun to use.

I love this. So inspiring. I loved the shot of the ski lifts at 7:25. Has a eerie feeling almost like a horror thriller film if that makes sense. I love shooting in black and white. I feel like it captures more emotion and tells a story better then color. But I also feel that my color photos are better then my B&W ones. I’ve also noticed that when I shoot B&W, I think I’m color. But when I shoot in color, I think in B&W. As for the question at the end. My favorite B&W film stock is JCH 400.

Have you compensated your expore when shooting in the snow? The lightmeter doesn't know its supposed to be white, cause it's calibrated to neutral grey. So it esposes the snow as if its neutral grey, hence the low contrast and underexposure. Adding another stop of light should do the trick. Great composition by the way!

Super nice video! As a black and white shooter, I am considering shooting colour for the entire summer to learn the same lessons, vice versa, as you are with shooting BnW :)

Im not a fan of long videos but i found myself being entertained the entire time and I even took screenshots because of how well the compositions were and the editing was just flawless. I also want to live abroad and so this was a nice video to watch :))

Just watched by your video and found it inspirational and interesting. I’m primarily black and a white shooter my yourself from time to time I will photograph on color. I equally photograph digital and film. My biggest challenge is finding a what dark room to make prints so IOnly limited to scanning my negatives in the computer. I’ve been in photographer for five decades now and really have a passion for it. Oh I like your black and white work and anxious to see more in the upcoming videos and I’m also curious about your color photography to. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

what a great challenge to only shoot b&w. I read once that to photograph people in colour is to portray their clothes. Photograph them in b&w is to portray their soul." who ever said that i reckon had it sorted as I think do you. best wishes from Australia.

I shot a Pentax 67 with a 55mm f4 lens for years with Trix film which I developed in Xtol. I sold it when I was broke I miss it everyday. I am trying out 4x5 now with Fomapan 200 black and white film Thmks for your honest and encouraging videos

Well done on this challenge 👏🏼 I think a cool next version would be black n white using colour filters. I imagine it would be more challenging in predicting how the image will come out

You should make an online course with different classes for those new to photography. You’d be providing so much help and you’d also make so much money

Congrats on the visa! Great that you will be able to visit family in China. I know how that feels, I'm in opposite situation. For past 2.5 years stuck in China, no chance to visit my parents back in Europe.

Definitely read Ansel Adams books if you haven't already, it helped me a lot, especially the zone system part. I'm pretty sure shooting black and white can only improve even your color photography.
