Yeah there's obviously potential for even some large flakes to fly out the sides since often the flakes are trapped in blobs of clay etc. even. Classifying is going to remain a separate step for me at least :-).

maybe a long tom at the leading edge to the classifier would help wash the silt from the larger rocks prior getting washed away. it did seem in the video that there was a lot of silt going out the sides and not into the traps. besides that, your design is great. very innovative

@XGrumpyProspector Answer Part 3, Small nuggets hit the slick plate with the sound of the large rocks landing on the plate, they drop immediatly. I also have a deflector plate that is hinged at the top of slick plate, below where you dump material that flaps under the rush of water & over the surface to knock down any floater Gold flakes insuring they lose the surface tension & drop to the classifier. You are very right on increasing the slick plate length to accomondate all that is needed there

Gold drops amazingly quick in liquid, I have watched it land on top of lighter material and still not move downstream very little, as the material under it washed out from benieth it, leaving the Gold sliding along anything more solid than its dropping force. I like your thoughts to tame the fine to micro fine, in a torrent of high waterflow, Brilliant I must say! Cause its all about Getting to the Gold. For those that deserve some! Keep in touch, The Grumpy Prospector

I think the underflow idea is fascinating. In watching this video however, I wonder how much fine material has settled prior to hitting the 1/4 screen. At 1:14 after first shovel, there appears to be a great deal of dirt in the side discharge and some going over the diverter. I'd be most curious to see a demonstration which involves a collection tub under the diversion area to show what has bypassed the 1/4" screen. Panning all tailings to show gold isn't being lost would be most beneficial.

In my actual production model, the material input plate is 2' longer before the classifyer. And allows extra insurance gold will drag and slide the bottom. I have great video of gold dragging well behind all material within the first inches of input & going through the classifyer. As for light material -silt & such, we want that to exit anyway it wants. It does trouble "some" viewers seeing silt go off the side eject. But for me its A-Ok.

you may be right on that. It just seems something is missing in the design though. Like maybe a longer 'throat' at the beginning where stuff can separate a little more. Anyway probably a good idea overall. One can work weeks for 5.00 of gold pretty easily :-)

Also at he material dump (not pictured in this video) is a suface deflector plate, in which will be attached when in actual Gold collectin use. That forces ALL material even the bobbers from floating on by! I'll keep using this so called contraption, as it is GETTING ME LOTS OF GOLD. ---- Clean and Quick ------

This video was to demonstrate the classifyer section only, on its ability to size material inline and prior to the traps. I've used this for a long time now and it sepperates and collects Gold at significant speed with excellent capture rates on even the super small gold. The day of this video I forgot to check the traps for any gold, as my focus was on the classifier.

When the first pioneers of flight hammered out their first flying devices, They sure didn't build the fighter jets you see today! Prototypes and innovation create the masterpiece. For those that question? Keep flying your Ultralights. For those that want to get gold without the labor & time consumed of panning, well just ask the users that actually bought our river sluices, or try one yourself. As me I'm sure they are out getting it! We don't have remaining time to sit around here deliberating about it. : )

@XGrumpyProspector Answer Part 3, My Dredge Sluice System that I have now decided to produce as the river sluice also has classifiers that allow all material to go over the top of the classified traps. In which I can now put three various Gold collection traps inline in one sluice catching ALL Gold form course nuggets at the top, and Micron Gold by the third trap. For the River or High Banker Sluice I will still have the option of the large material shedding Classifier after the slick plate
@XGrumpyProspector
@XGrumpyProspector 12 жыл бұрын
@ReedLukens Answer Part 1, Thanks for comment. Yea, You are right and I have already increased the slick plate length, increased the classifier length for the production line. I could easily shoeten the distance between traps, to keep overall sluice relativally short. The first trap catches all the Gold, I just add the second for insurance and run it as you see abit slower just to make sure no fine Gold gets off the end.
@bobbrown690

I think so too. I'd like to see the shovel load spend more time on the slick plate before before being forced off the sides of the sluice without giving time for a good washing, agitation, and rinsing of the rocks etc, to allow for all the dirt, clay, sands and gold to go through the screens instead of going out with the larger rocks. Maybe a spring tensioned or manually opened horizontal gate door to keep the rocks in longer since you're waiting for the sluice to process the dirt anyway.

that was one thing i noticed, it looks nice....if you are in extremely gravely material i think it would work just fine...The areas where i have prospected the rocks didnt wash nearly fast enough for this system...and i know when im using my highbanker i work the material with my hand and make sure the rocks are clean before i sluff it off into the tailing pile. Very nice idea, just worried the material washes out much too fast.

Thats cool, Using an inline classifier as the video shows, allows more material to be moved in a given timeframe. Essentually in the time you spend classifying your material you run less through your device. In most all cases you will capture much more gold in the same timeframe by simply using an inline classification system. Ok, you may lose a flake or two. But more gold was caught durring the runtime than when you spend time classifying all the material with less actual sluicing time.

Thats what I meant was the light stuff, my suggestion would to be get rid of the, ejector part and build the sluice alluvial style, also ant gold barring quartz will also get blown out with the large rocks.

The larger Nuggets do stick on the classifier and are easy to pick out there. 2 UnderFlows are extremely efficient, The First one gets most everything. While, when set up properly the flake gold and such can be caught in the second.

@ReedLukens Answer Part 2, I also could easily put a Micron Gold trap attatchment right at the end with its own Classifier. The smaller material you see going off the classifier would contain "NO" Gold. You are seeing the lighter rocks and fine earth dirt that dont sink as Gold would, & bounce along the classifier or float above. Gold does not do that and goes through the classified screen. I have played with Gold for long hours on this topic and the Gold Drops qiuck and slides along the bottom

: ) Losing dirt and dust, Yes, losing Gold, No. Even the fine Gold sets to the bottom very rapidly. I have a set, that stops even the floater Gold from escaping. (not Shown). Also for my production model of this river UnderFlow, the Material dump slickplate Is longer, ensuring one should not put their material to close, or onto, the classifier. The Gold will drop near instantaniously and slide the bottom through the classifier and into the UnderFlow traps.

In Peru South America, a large claim owners bought 2 of them. They said it captured every gold they put at it! And now ordered 5ea. 4' wide x 15' long in sucession of 3 connected classification sections. And are to order 100+ more of the same. They also have the "Gold Rush" Discovery Channel cable show mining on their claim. They put the small one they bought at the end of the big red sluice those guys use and caught massive amounts of gold they are losing daily!
@XGrumpyProspector
@XGrumpyProspector 12 жыл бұрын
Hey, I can easily do that, If you know how Gold moves in the forces of Gravity & water flow, even the fine Gold drops near instantainiously. I will demonstrate this in another video. Unless the Gold gains surface tension, It may be possible to float past. That is rare case. Just because you see dirt and rocks going off the discharge, does not mean any Gold is. It is hitting the bottom "within" 1" of drop in the 2'" inch of water depth & sliding along the Slick plate through the classifier.
@XGrumpyProspector
@XGrumpyProspector 12 жыл бұрын
Yea, losing dirt and dust is not much of a concern. As explained below. Gold drops very rapidly and slides the bottom through the classifier. Rocks the size of marbles can weigh less than a 1/8th inch Gold nugget. So if you drop both in a fast current the Gold will drop immediatly, due to its weight & small size. As the rock weighing the same will land bottom down current. possibly several feet depending on water depth. Why? weight, size, Its profile allows more resistance and is pushed further.
@XGrumpyProspector

Yea, this was my original prototype that worked exceptionally well considering, and proved me well the classification design is very good. : ) this type construction was for video reason only. But has retained me much Gold as it is. My actual UnderFlow Sluices have metal bottoms so abrassion on plexiglass is not possible. As said prior, "no" floaters get past my traps.
@XGrumpyProspector
@XGrumpyProspector 12 жыл бұрын
Hmm, now your suggesting losing heavy stuff? (definatly not the case here), I test all facets of the construction, this is why I made it with lexan, so I could monitor all movement of Gold through the entire system. I also test Gold flow here at home, but will not reveil that publically. I tried to tell you the traps catch most ALL Gold and some gemstones types. The only difficulty would be the flake gold, but as with other things I don't show on youtube, I have that covered as well.

Dumping in more slowly, makes good sence. and would allow more settling of material. or a longer drop before the classifier. Funny. My traps are designed in many shapes and such. Capturing all sorts & sizes of gold. The standared shape I sell is the most effective on the majority of all gold types. If someone needs specific gold captured, they send me a sample and I custom build one to match their exact situation.
@XGrumpyProspector
@XGrumpyProspector 11 жыл бұрын
Brown dust going off the side does not concern me. - Thats waist.- [Lighter than Gold, Black Sands dont even go off there.]So all gold reasonably placed hits bottom relativaly quick and through the classifier. This prototype had a short material plate, as I used metal I had at that time. The production designs are much longer at the material input, to ensure all gold has more than required time to run its path it desires along the bottom.

Yr right on that slow down part his big problem is that his water traps are even in any setups i seen and used they have the pit higher on the inbound side and lower on the exit side! that keeps the water flow moving! Next his traps are way to deep and he needs more different ones to have a best option to catch the gold! Each set at a diff setup for catching smaller and larger stuff!
@ReedLukens
@ReedLukens 12 жыл бұрын
It looked like a lot of the under-size went off also, so I would lengthen the slick plate to 24" before the classifier, then instead of running the under-size off, run it over a short upper sluice so it can catch the big stuff. I don't see why there is 8 to 10" between the fluid beds. I would try 4" to 6", put the fluid beds at the end of the sluice, increase the slick plate to +24" for better separation, then throw a short nugget sluice above the doors with a few drop riffles. Just thinking :-)

I dont mean to sound so piss its just i have used alot of diff setups and you keep saying in other post that you dont loose any nuggets but the majority of gold recovered these days is very fine gold the stuff you dont see! But i have to say i give you credit for trying something and not just buying! One thing i do like i made something on the same idea but with a very diff design was yr side sweep stone removing setup! As I know, allot of material is going off the waist side, I'll use a for instance for the topic: If I held a Round 1.5" Rock, A lead BB sized pellet, and a Feather At 12' high in a 50 mph wind. & dropped at exact time, the lead lands within inch of vertical, the rock within 6" the feather at 45'.

For those that have not tried one, "Fine Gold" does not exit the side fins. Many factors through physics wont allow it to do so in this design. I need not explain, as this is not a class in that department, its about getting gold as clean as physically possible. This summer I WILL personally re-demonstrate the true effectiveness of the newest version of our river sluice to prove so! The newer design simply gives more time prior to classification, which is another common sense no brainer. Other than that the classification hasn't changed much from the original prototype in this video, as it did not need improvement!

I was wondering/noticing the same thing about the fine material shooting out the large classifier discharges...it did look like a lot was flowing out. (5:54 for example). What if there were a couple flat riffles, so to speak, that ran the width of the entry chute that had 3/16 or 1/4" or so of gap underneath that would act as a washer by lifting and separating? Material would tumble and force bigs to go over and small to go to the bottom before hitting the classifier chute? Just a thought...

Hilarious! This is a prototype made with heavy impact lexan. for REASONS of videoing water/Gold movement from all angles. Unless you are stating Gold is like a fishing bobber, and continually pops up to the surface?? Look closer the UnderFlow forces all material under the surface at the traps. & I'm sure it does not flaot around after that. The plate before the classifier is aluminum, so gold getting caked with oily plexiglass is impossible.

Your loosing fine gold, as it will float in fast water. I have been mining for over 40 years and never seen a contraption quite like that. Also isn't plexiglass made from OIL and put oily residue on the gold that will also make it float? Go through your tailing and see how much you lost, I mean beside the gold getting ejected from the classifier. Just my 2 cents. Proven methods are always the best methods.
