Thank goodness I found your channel last night! I bought 40 ft of expandable piping which is covered in fabric with the intention of burying it in my backyard for downspout drainage. I took it all back this morning after watching your videos and will order the 3 inch kit you sell. Thank you French Drain Man!

Thanks for your perspective. It is comforting since I have laid some 4" corrugated and then later am seeing/hearing poo-pooing this type of drain tile. But, my feelings are that if water is moving there's very little if any sediment, so good to hear confirmation of that. I have good slope. ..really good at the beginning of the run, and will be sure to maintain a decent slope on the end of it (not completed yet). I have leaf guards too, so there just isn't going to be much if any debris either.

Amen! Not everyone realizes the trials and tribulations of drainage systems in the cold North. The other part of your "bellies" is that they trap water - which freezes - and completely blocks the drain. I've had it happen under my driveway, where snow doesn't accumulate and doesn't insulate the ground.

You are comparing to Sch 40 pipe. Most municipalities use SDR pipe for underground - because it can handle the movements in the soil - frost cycles. Its not as rigid as Sch 40 but that flexibility is what you want. After looking at different specs I went with SDR26 pipe instead of SDR35. I also use open hub connectors (gap into underground SDR26) at the downspouts as clean outs rather than a tight connection. Been working very good.

Thanks for this video. I just bought 4 inch 100 ft of the corrugated solid. I was thinking maybe I should have spent more money for smooth wall stuff but now I know to really pay attention to slope and I should not have any problems. I am putting a upside down t at the end of the run. I have dug a 2 foot wide and 2.5 ft deep hole filled with small stones. The t has a grate on top which i can remove and clean things out if need be. Just had these gutters put on and want to get all the water away from my house. Thanks for the vid. Ray

The ONLY negative comment that I'll offer is that I had an entire roll of this corrugated pipe in my barn, spooled and wrapped. It sat there for almost 10 years, inside plastic wrap. When I went to use it a few years ago, it immediately started cracking at the corrugated seams. Maybe the moisture from being plastic wrapped, but it's supposed to be exposed to everyday weather exposures, including moisture. The entire roll had to be scrapped, and it had never been used even a single day in utility purposes. Even 45 degree bends resulted in cracking and separation. Maybe I bought a bad batch, but - again - it was 10 years old, and still wrapped as new.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I have a couple of questions: 1. Which would be better pipe for Clay soil. As you know it is expensive soil, so it can put a lot of pressure at times and keeps on shifting. 2. You talked about maintaining the slope so water does not stand in the pipe. However when you use a pop-up, or other outlet mechanism it will be higher than the pipe level, so water will stand in the pipe. How to avoid that?

When you have a French drain and the downspout, where should you put the downspout in the trenches? The drain tile is on the bottom of the trench and the downspout tube is on top of the drain tile? Or maybe the solid tube is along side of the drain tile?? What is the wrong and right thing to do?

Hi, I am Maria Ford a 67 year old disable female Veteran. I moved here from Indiana, to retired. The cold and snow was too much for me. I have to do everything myself. So, can you tell me where to get the double drainage pipe I will need for the French drain. When D. R. Horton built these homes in the HOA where I live in Hiram, Georgia, they did not put any drainage system in this community. Now, we have to do it ourselves. All 197 homes. Mainly us that don't have the money. I had to have 8 trees and 50 bushes dug up on this little land, less than a quarter acre. Plus, I am trying my best to dig up all the roots that are under my house and concrete And all through the yard. I am out everyday, in the sun. And people go by and blow their horns. Plus, I am being fined because, I can't get it done fast enough. It is going to take me at least 3 years to get it done plus, grade the yard whatever that is And put in a French drain. So, can you PLEASE tell me how to do these things. On top of me replacing the window and door frames And painting the house to which I am afraid of being up high. But, I have to do it myself. Please, just tell me how to do it because, have no ideaI what I am trying to do. I have not enjoyed this home at all. Not one cook out. I will follow your instructions Thank you

Out contractor did a rather half arsed job with our underground drainage and so this winter we found out how bad it was when ice started coming out the end connected to the down spout... With this burried, is is best to surround it with some form of rock / gravel vs just straight dirt on top to give it some added support?

This is almost opposite of what you said in your Clinton Township video of sump pump drainage. You say to use Cresline which I found out is around $300 for a 20 foot length unfortunately. I'm thinking about doing a sump pump drainage system myself, but I do not know which pipe to use, and I don't think I can afford the Cresline.

Tammy I think the difference is in the grade of the slope and not wanting the water in the yard. That job had a super flat yard, therefore requiring smooth wall pipe to better move the water to the ditch.

@vandogtrailer6701
@vandogtrailer6701 4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure (95%) that the yellow is the new version of the single wall black he shows here. Those are solid pipes only to move downspout water, no french drain. The blue you see now, which has the inlets, is the same same purpose as the yellow you see in the background here with the inlets. The blue is the new design, a little tougher I think, but the purpose is for french drains and it takes water in through the walls.

Your display pipe is laying across a gravel driveway so which is best if you had to bury like it shows and have the home owners drive across regularly? I'm sure you know the drill added a 4-6" thick gravel driveway and has created a dam.

Hi there. Great Tutorial. I have a question. I’m in Oregon. I am going to run about a 150foot continual slope system from my downspouts. I think I would like to use the Dual wall Corrugated pipe as the first 50 feet are almost flat then it will pick up pretty fast after one 90 degrees bend as that long run is going to go behind a newly installed interlocking block retaining wall ending up at the street. Can I use the 3inch Dual Wall Corrugated pipe for the whole thing except for the initial downspout along with the house until it flattens out? My local Home Depot and Lowe’s don’t seem to carry this Dual wall pipe. Should I use 3 inch pipe if it exists or should I use the 4 inch? I hope that I’m not imposing too much by asking you this but we are about 2000 miles away. Thank you for your videos though. Very Tight and to the point . I went to your website to try to email but it wouldn't accept my info. Rick Oregon (on the coast)
