Man IMO define the great line felt the most natural out of all the albums.. Up until the new one you guys just dropped. I'm so seriously glad that Aaron and Spencer can do the bro thing and push past their own separate issues as well as whatever issues that they may have had with each other creatively, and still have the vibe, the fucking punch and presence to bring the whole show down in a quick 30 min set even now like they never missed beat. These guys are vastly responsible for my taste in music being as refined and unique. I love how transparent and up front these dudes can be and I have always been a straight hair, lip ring,Chiodos band tee, checkered black on white Vans diehard screamo kid at heart. Honestly I'll probably die listening to post hxc music. From the bottom of my heart from somebody who was genuinely moved by the art and music, your words and instrumentals and your time. Thank you. We appreciate you.

it's better when you think you've heard anything and then you get a Lost In The Sound Of Separation -style album and it speaks to where you are in life and on top of that or better than that, the songs are actually everything you've loved about the band in a modern or advanced -sense, I guess speaking to the "where you are in life" point (when you started out along the lines referenced in the video, The Used and My Chemical Romance).

Disambiguation is their best record, imo. i started listening in 2004 after a friend burned me a mix CD which had Reinventing Your Exit. i went out and bought TOCS and FOB's From Under the Cork Tree same day. to me, it's awesome that i can literally never predict what they will do next. i remember back in 2010 when they put up just the audio of "Illuminator" on their website and i sat there and listened over and over trying to imagine what the song could possibly go like vocally (i wasn't listening to bands like Norma Jean or Every Time I Die at the time, so any frame of reference i had for that kind of fast and chaotic sound wasn't there yet). they're always surprising me and i love that they can do that. even if i don't think every single thing that they do is the greatest piece of songwriting in the genre ever (for example, when i finally heard Illuminator, i didn't love it though i really do now), it's important that they're doing what they want to do so i can get new music at all lol

Lost in the Sound of Separation is their best album. Act of Depression & Cries of the Past are cringe-inducing angsty albums that were clearly written by teenagers. The Changing of Times improved upon those two albums slightly. Chasing Safety was solid, but was over-produced and too polished. Define the Great Line was an amazing genre-defining album that pushed their sound in the best possible direction. But with Lost, the guys cemented their own personal sound - fewer poppy sing/scream gimmicks, more aggression, more authenticity, more creative lead guitar, more diverse song structures, etc. Disambiguation was good, but it lacks sonic variety; too many of the songs have the same industrial vibe. Also, Driftwood meanders a bit, and In Completion is a really lackluster closer. Erase Me was an embarrassment - look, you can make softer and more traditional songs, there’s. nothing wrong with that, but the problem with Erase Me is the songs are often derivative and uninspired. And many fi the lyrics from Erase Me are downright corny. The singles from Voyeurist seem better than anything from Erase Me, so I’m cautiously optimistic at the moment. But yeah, Lost is their crown jewel. It’s the only album of theirs that I feel fully represents who they are and what they wanted to do. It ditched the fake sheen of Chasing Safety, and it improved upon Define in every conceivable way. Side note - if Aaron and Spencer want to make more melodic music (along the lines of Deftones or whatever), they can do that with their solo projects like The Almost or SleepWave. They both already have outlets for their more melodic inclinations, which is why it frustrates me when they try to push Underoath in that direction.

Now that I hear this as an adult, seems to me they had an identity issue. As in because most of them grew up in Christian homes and they like heavy music they had to be a Christian band. If so why recruit a non believer to be your frontman? They were young of course. Seems as they grew up, specifically Aaron, figured out they really didn’t have a conviction about their faith and hence where they stand now. Curiously, I’ve Grown the opposite.
@bigtakeshi
@bigtakeshi 4 жыл бұрын
When Dallas started the band it WAS an explicitly Christian band, but it evolved as people grew and probably as members changed also. Although, during TOCS they were still an explicitly Christian band as well. Notice, Aaron was always the most vocal about his faith and he was the only original member. Not that it mattered to many people. If UO was never a Christian band, they'd still be my favorite.

I remember hearing about underoath in 2004 with reiv enting your exit and its dangourous business waling out your door on fuse and thought they were cool. I found them again in 2021 with there new record erase me and thought they were still good and then I bought disambigious and they're only chasing safety again in 2022 and been a big fan since then.

My band is a local band and we sold out our last show! I totally understand what they're talking about. With time shit happens and we've only been playing for a year and half.

Aaron is mixing up Survive, Kaleidoscope with their Live in Koko album from London. Both were live albums, Koko was not a DVD. SK was the DFTGL tour in 2007 before Lost in the Sound was even made. Live in Koko was 3 years later, during the European LITSOS tour, when Aaron left directly after the tour. I'm sure all their tour memories get mashed into a giant blob of "WTF was that" moments though LOL. Desolate Earth...The End is Here is essentially a CHRISTIAN song. Spencer literally screams "I FOUND GOD, I found the strength of the Believers...Oh God save us all!" It wasn't an explicit worship song and their music wasn't like "I love you Jesus" which is what I think Spencer means, but that song at least definitely had faith based undertones. He's right about 99.99% of their music. It was not explicitly "Christian" music and no one ever cared. Their music was their music and it kicked ass and always will.

It can be read sarcastically. Like, I found “god”, he sees the “strength” of belief, and finds it empty.
