Boulder's Gate has so many really solid good cards that are being overlooked because they are usually in a single color or not as "efficient" as other cards. It's going to be a massive hit in a few years because there are just so many good cards.

Agreed we did some pulls and my friend told me that you can put backgrounds in the 99 i was like “interesting” since i only thought of ideas as a commander so after testing them, i put so many of them in different decks now because they add a cool spin to every deck & i put neera in like 4 different decks because shes just good value for any izzet deck

I built a Wilson, Refined Grizzly with Noble Heritage background. Literally tons of fun and everyone gets so scared when they realize that by turn 4 he’s a 6/6 with a keyword sandwich and everyone is still ramping or has tiny things on board lmao

extra note about the inclusion of everflowing chalice as one of the rocks - in a pinch it's 0 mana to trigger neera!

One thing that tripped me up when brewing a Neera deck is how her ability causes spells to resolve. I had to go back and edit my deck to get the most out of the effect. If you use a spell to trigger Neera's ability, that spell is put on the bottom of your library, and therefore, *the spell doesn't resolve.* You can't, for example, cast [[Counterspell]], have it resolve, then cast the card off the top of your library. The Counterspell is eaten before the effect happens. Just bear that in mind when brewing a deck. Fill your deck up with cards that cost one or two mana. [[Pongify]] is a good one, mainly because of its low mana cost, and not the effect. Creatures that reduce the costs of spells are also really good. 👍

After brewing several decks, I learned the whole ability only resolves once, whether or not you went through with its effect. All this means is you don't decide when to Neera trigger, it happens the first spell of each turn. This bummed me out thinking I could use more scry effects throughout a game, not just on the end step before my turn y'know?

5:40 I did this using a red elemental blast on my opponents turn and got an Alrunds epiphany off the top so I got to mess with the turn order a lot. Getting an extra turn spell at instant speed is kinda crazy

I think a single cheap creature like Goblin Electromancer isn’t a bad idea. It’s an instants and sorceries discounting body for 2 mana, and can easily wheel into a way bigger threat with Neera on the board!

I played her at prerelease and I originally wondered why she wasn’t worded “the first spell you cast” like Rashmi who I played in Commander for awhile. Then I realized this way you can flicker or bounce and replay her to reset her trigger, where she would still see a “first spell.” There are some cool things you can do with that. Displacer Kitten is pretty good and can go through your whole deck if no other creatures. Then storm spell to finish? I’m planning to build her at some point. Was fun and mostly non threatening at prerelease.

I have Neera in a Will & Rowan Kenrith deck which is based around copying spells. Does copying a spell come before or after, or is it independent of you casting a spell? I would also love to see your take on a deck with these two PWs as commanders.

both abilities would trigger at the same time. since you control both triggers you get to choose wich one goes first. so you choose to resolve the copy first, do the copy and then do the switching with neera

@@DaCookieSheep oh that's sick, from the ruling that I read, the copies from Will's emblem resolve before the original, so i can really just copy Neera (Irenicus's Vile Duplication) multiple times, and spam low cost instants to get absolute fatties on the board without much risk.

I don't think it's underrated. Its rated where it should be. Due to its high casting cost and not being in green, it suffers from removal and just getting onto the board. I have a Jadzi built deck, I love it, but I understand why it's not as popular as more efficient simic value engines.

He probably just didn’t put it in b/c budget. I personally run one in mu unbudgeted neera deck and it gets kind of rude. Making someone waste a spell to try to get the one they want off only for you to counterspell it using the copy to actually cohnterspell and tucking the original with neera to get a big creature off of is disgusting.

@@lilgoldenboi use more treasure tokens cards, if your mana curve is nice then it shouldn’t be a bad thing. Or if they in your hand early, try to use Wheel cards or cards like Scroll rack to fix your hand, use more scry cards/lands. Consider/Anticipation/Behold the Multiverse to help you fix & draw cards. Impulse draw was a great addition in red so it makes it smoother to play cards from exile. Jeska’s will, reckless impulse, march of reckless joy, big score, goldspan dragon style cards to help you get there.
