What a great idea for a playlist ! Enough to silence those who claim that there were no great female classical composers (or none at all), and all the theories suggesting that genius is necessarily male...When really how could we know they existed if they are never honored in the culture? I'm definitely using this as my new study playlist until I get infused with the melodies, and sending it to all of my friends.

if you have time and want a great perspective on this, there is a great essay by Linda Nochlin called "why are there no great women artists?" which goes into great detail about the institutional obstacles that have prevented women from succeeding in the arts! One of the most interesting points is that many of the few recognized female artists are often the only child or oldest daughter of an artist father who wanted to pass down his craft but had no sons

Thank you for including Teresa Carreño in this playlist; her musical relevance is sometimes overlooked, which is pretty sad considering the international impact she had, during and after her death. Teresa Carreño brought pride to the Venezuelan spirit, shattered social stereotypes from the 19th century, met a variety of virtuosos- Liszt and Rossini being perhaps the most celebrated of them-, and wrote a wide variety of musical works. As a Venezuelan immigrant, she demonstrated that in the hard times, one must be perseverant and stick to one's virtues and passions. As with how Venezuela is today, I think that it is our duty as Venezuelans to follow her example, and exercise our virtues wherever we go.

female musicians were a great influence to music over the course of history, and they still are. in fact, there may be many works published under male name that were in reality from female composers do yourself a favor and broaden your perspective on music if you haven't already. it gets boring after a while listening to the same 6 male composers

@@helvete_ingres4717 For what I'm hearing right now, there's no reason for what shouldn't this appear in a beethoven-tier music list, don't clearly see your point by sharing and standing on easily figured and biased opinions

@@cactusowo1835 From what *you* are hearing? What 'reasons' or lack thereof do you think of beyond if you like how something sounds moment to moment? You're someone with no understanding of music - you hear piano and strings and think this is pretty this is that prestigious classical shit you, have no thought for the form of it all, you have no appreciation for classical music and your comment shows their own laughable ignorance. Even the way you think of it in 'lists' shows your entire experience with it is playlists like this one. Why do americans always assume the most ignorant opinions are the most important? The arrogance to present your clueless self as an arbiter of quality let alone genius. Want to know what people who DO understand something of classical music think? They don't think what you just said, Look at any of the big classical uploaders to youtube (since your frame of reference seemed limited to 'playlists') like ashish xiangyi kumar, why have they never uploaded clara schumann in all their hundreds of uploads? B/c it's mediocre and only holds interest b/c the composer has a female name and it's easy to get tons of views on youtube uploading a playlist called 'underrated female composers' and getting thousands of comments from people clueless as yourself about what a crime it is this music isn't part of the canon. There ARE better female composers but none of them are here

if you heard this same music with instead the names of those 'well-known and listened to composers' on the title, you'd just think it was them, or an imitation of them. That's why this music is nothing special and there's only so much fake-interest you can manufacture on the basis of it being published under female names - those names are i fact the 'new discovery' you refer to, nothing to do with the actual music which is all pretty much the standard kind of salon music of the time
