This was really helpful! Thanks so much for this video, especially since I am doing a project in school on the Declaration of Independence. Just a clarification - the Declaration does not reference God. It actually references the Creator. You can say their “creator” was God but then I think they would have used that word. Creator is an important word to remember in that we all have the same creator, perhaps one of the things that makes us equal (unless you believe that there are multiple creators out there all aligned with different religions). In a time of continuing religious intolerance, racial intolerance, sexual identity intolerance, ideological intolerance it is important to reference that the bedrock of the United States, the Declaration, states that ALL are endowed by the same Creator with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is surprising the number of people who declare themselves “Patriots” but fail to grasp this basic principle of true freedom for all not freedom for some.

3) He didn't say everyone had a right to own property. That was John Locke. He said to pursue happiness which means you are free to seek property and your dreams or what have you. Jefferson purposely removed property. And you might notice, it doesn't say god ever. It says 'Creator'- that was purposeful too. Its a bit more vague and could represent nature.

Great video, right to the point, no b.s and no hype. Keep up the great work. Our nation is severely lacking in this knowledge! I do agree with some of the comments on Great Britian though due to the fact it was made up of several countries but since I am not an authority on English history I may be wrong in stating, " England ruled over all of them during that time frame, so to the colonist, it may have seemed like, (the English are coming)" but history tells us that Revere did say the "the British are coming"!

Very helpful bcuz many are using the word "inalienable" when the Constitution specifically states "unalienable" But also "Life, Liberty and pursuit of Happiness" Apparently is missing a word "LAND" There is no sovereignty without LAND ...so we are dealing with tampering of the original document or rewording.

Correction. Britain at that point at least on the mainland was no different in terms of government than they are right now. It was Parliament who added taxes that we could do nothing about since they would ot let us have a seat in Parliament. It would be like if the US in order to fund the Iraq war just taxed places like Guam and Puerto Rico who have no representation in congress. It was democracy for the British mainland but not for Americans under their control. They did this with Hong Kong too.
