What happened to forgiveness? The couple were new converts... probably born and raised Jews for several generations. Then all of a sudden this new religion pops up and expects them to hand over EVERYTHING to the cause? No repremand? Wasn't Peter forgiven after he denied Christ three times? Then a great fear came over the congregation . So now they're giving out of fear? Where's the Love and forgiveness Christian?

It sounds terrible the way you described it, but its actually different to this. This wasn't Christianity how you are thinking, but Judaism continued. These were Jewish people who came to realise that their Messiah was Jesus. They had no new testament, no churches, etc, but they were Jewish people doing thier best to live as God wanted. Ananias and Saphira weren't new to God in that sense, but new to the idea that Jesus was thier Messiah. And, nobody asked them to give money, it was completely thier decision. Joseph (Barnabus) gave money voluntarily and they decided to do it too, except that they lied about it and it was God who punished them. So the fear was towards God. We should contemplate and consider why God would do that... its a difficult thing to understand, and yet crucial. The same God who forgives, and who dies for us, also is a God of justice too. The fact that he punishes wrong is also what makes him good.
