Your videos are outstanding , Thank you so much for the info ! I thought I had a problem with 2 of my Weeping Alaskan Cedars(. some branches turning brown ), My daughter and I started a small 20 tree resistant variety apple orchard along with 60 Chestnut trees and your advice has been very helpful . Weve used primarily Neem and copper early , then Neem and Capt Jacks through the season . She has laying hens foraging so were trying to keep them safe too .Thank you again so much

TWO questions: The young Cortland and Macintosh trees we planted last fall (in our Massachusetts backyard) have now lost many leaves (one worse than the other) due to what looks like Cedar Apple Rust. We have very old, very mature trees on our property as well--one apple that is losing (yellow) leaves as I write this. 1) Will our trees come back if we spray with a fungicide during the timeframe you recommend next spring (before rains--petal fall)? We are not looking for edible fruit necessarily, but are trying to replace two extremely old, rotted apple trees that were in the yard until last year. 2) Is Serenade still on the market? The chatter on line states that it is not. Thank you for all your great information!

OMG. Just the best video on "cedar" apple rust. Just found your channel and just finished scab video. I learned so much. Now I'm glad I didn't chop down my "white cedar" (arborvitae ) trees. I have found Surround clay to be very helpful for my biggest pest here in Vermont which is apple maggot. (despite sticky pheromone traps). My number 2 problem is scab and I'm thinking of adding Captan WP to my clay sprays, in additional to cultural controls. Your thoughts? Kind Regards, Craig

That should work fine after (flower) petal fall. But I would still do a few mancozeb applications earlier in the season to prevent primary scab.

@healthyhorticulture I just planted two trees with this issue, a Pink Lady & Golden Delicious. I just watered them like crazy to help them establish roots a bit, until they started to put on a couple of leaves. Then I went to town chopping off all affected leaves I could find & throwing them in the trash. I spritzed the whole tree with celestial seasoning's cinnamon apple spice tea. I plan on using the Captain copper spray in the springtime as it starts to flower. Glad I saw this though, I was planning on planting a juniper! I'm in an inner city environment, so that fungus has a lot of hurdles to jump before it gets to my apple trees to re-infect them. None of my immediate neighbors have cedars or junipers... Any further advice? Or have I done about everything I can do? Also I hear sulfur spray work well... What are your thoughts? Have you tried it before?

Really glad I found you... you know your stuff! My question: How do I get rid of Cedar Apple Rust once my tree gets it? It sounded to me like preventative spraying was recommended but it's too late for that for me as my tree already has it bad. Interestingly, my Honey Crisp got it but my Golden Delicious (10 feet away) did not. Is my apple tree going to die? How do I get rid of Cedar Apple Rust? (BTW, our yard is surrounded by junipers so, there is no getting rid of them.) Thanks!

There’s nothing you can do at this point. Most of the leaves will probably fall off but your tree won’t die. Keep the trees watered during dry spells and maybe a light fertilizing just to help them through any stress, then work preventativly next spring. Hope that helps.

I’ve never heard of this until yesterday when i saw the orange slime on our juniper tree. It has been raining a lot. The tree is literally covered in it. is there anything i can do? Do i have to cut the tree down? We dont have apples, but im sure there are crab apples or something fairly close by. I’m in the suburbs. This is all new to me. Thanks for any help!

I watched a different video and sprayed through very early spring 3 times. Adter that i watched for bud bread and sprayed with Captan before last rain. Plan on applying before next rain. I understood this was all i needed for apple fungus diseases. You did not mention captan in latest video. Confused

Captan is a good fungicide. It’s more effective at controlling scab than it is for rust. I prefer to use mancozeb for the earlier sprays up to and including petal fall (when the flowers fall off) then I switch over to captan to continue my scab control later in the season

We have a Granny Smith tree that’s only got a small amount of rust but our Fuji is greatly being affected.

If your tree is already infected I would use spectracide brand immunox mixed with captan but the parts that are already infected will remain infected. Start your spraying earlier next year.
