Elizabeth said, Spider mites wiped out my strawberry plant patch. When you talked about fluctuation of temperatures, it made me think about my use of cloches for the first time, outdoors in my fall crop garden. Yesterday while weeding there I found what I first thought were aphids on my cabbage leaves. When rubbing my fingers across them, water was everywhere. I doubt it is aphid now, and I think the fluctuation of temperature, using the cloche (during sunshine it's 80-90 degrees in there, while in the 40s, 50s, or 60s outside) may be adversely affecting the balance of something. I'm in warm, far north California, zone 9. I'm growing a few type vegetables in cloches and they are look very healthy. Really like your educational videos, thanks!

It’s certainly quite possible that the warmer temps and elevated humidity may be creating a reproduction frenzy within those cloches. And with the cooler exterior temps beneficials are probably not very active. You may need to be persistent with some form of control measures to keep insect thresholds in check until warmer weather comes and hopefully some beneficial insects as well.

Can you do a video on why? We can’t spray sulfur after an oil pesticide? How do we store fertilizer?

“Read the label” yes.

Elizabeth said, Your explanations are so concise and thorough, and using proper, even scientific terms! Thank you so much. I learn a lot from you! Do you have any recommendations for killing weeds during winter in my row garden in the soil? I'm thinking a spray(there are so many now because of winter rains). I've used full-strength, with liquid soap, and epson salt mixed in white vinegar. Is there anything completely safe (no toxicity to my soil) and is a spray that works much more effectively than white vinegar? Thanks.

My best recommendation, if feasible would be cardboard and mulch. Not only can this help suppress weeds but it can moderate soil moisture, soil temps, and feed soil biology and attract earthworms as well.
