Could you make another video about raw diet? I want my cat to transition to raw diet but I’m not sure how to, should I buy meat from the frozen aisle? But ready to eat raw food? How do I prevent parasites or salmonella affecting my cat? The videos you make are very informative so I would love to see your take on this
@TheCatButler Жыл бұрын
Hey! Not sure if you saw this video on the meat transition: How to Transition Your Cat to a Raw Meat Diet | The Cat Butler kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYmyYaR6dtmYotU But in terms of what meat you use it depends on your budget. I try to get the freshest meats for my cats. So some is ready to eat raw and some meat is frozen by packed close to the date I purchase it. One way to prevent parasites and salmonella is getting meat from a high quality source. I’m not sure where you live but in the US at least where I live most meat don’t have salmonella or parasites. Especially farm beef and chicken. Parasites is a concern in wild caught fish, if not flash frozen. Second cats have a very acidic digestive tract that is short so most bacteria like salmonella doesn’t affect them very much. Hope that helps!

Hello! I have a question about your cat tree. It looks really neat, what are the leaves made of? Do your cats chew on them? This video was really helpful for figuring out why my cat vomited.
@TheCatButler Жыл бұрын
Hey the leaves are made out of silk! Pretty indestructible to the cats. They tried but no damage there. Glad the video was helpful for you!

My one Ragdoll cat started to get itchy skin that made him scratch holes in the skin to the point of bleeding, the wounds wouldn't heal and therefor he began to lick himself constantly and throw up hairballs all the time. The Vet told me he had food allergies and was allergic to protein in his diet. I had no idea that cats could develop allergies. I found out that he was allergic to a lot of things that also caused him to get watery eyes, coughing and sneezing. After a lot of searching for the right food and trying out varieties brands, I finally found a diet that worked for him and his allergies slowly began to fade but he kept throwing up a lot of hair ball and almost every time after eating. He is a long haired cat and he dosen't like to be brushed so I decided to shave down his hair a bit and that has help a lot, plus he love it. But that didn't stop him from throwing up after meals. I figured out that he was eating too much, too fast and that he loved to steal food from his sister. So, I began to weighing his meals, cut down his portions and spread out he meals so he would time to digest properly and also have a fasting period in between meals of 6-7 hours (this is usually during the time when they sleep). And so far it has worked, he is no longer throwing up after meal time or throwing up hair balls. I now feed him and his sister in different rooms so he can't steal food from his sister and teaching him that it's not okey to steal if he tries to. This has worked wonders for both of them! No more free feeding, no more throw up and no more allergies! It's been a struggle to figure out what works best but we are finally on the right track.

It's nice that your cat is getting better. BTW there are grooming gloves that make quick work of brushing. After trying the gloves I won't even use the brush anymore.

We have one with what seems like an aversion to canned fish flavored food. . .he's thrown up both times we've offered it. . .we don't buy fish flavors anymore. He's find with real fish though, so maybe we're being over cautious. Our other boy eats anything though, so why risk it? The other eats very quickly. . . and I've learnen when offered chicken necks he'll swallow them half the time, so they get cut into smaller pieces. It took a few tries to find a size where he wouldn't thrown them up afterward. . but it's only happened once or twice. Had him on a slow feeder bowl for a while, now I just watch him a little more closely and nudge him back a step if it seems like he's scarfing, he's getting much better, but I think he'll always eat fast. Thankfully neither seem prone to hairballs.

I have 2 cats that throw up regularly for different reasons: The first cat is obsessed with cleaning himself. He licks himself at least 5x more than a usual cat. As a long-hair cat, this causes him throwing up hairballs every 2 weeks... I tried combing him, giving him special food etc. but this caused him only stress, and it did not help. So I started shaving him every 2 months to a hair length of under 1 cm and this works perfectly for him. He did not throw up for approx. 1 year now, since I started the shaving. The shaving causes him stress, but I think this is still less stress than vomiting every 2 weeks. Another positive side effect: He is playing much more with shorter hair, as if his long hair is causing him too much trouble, probably too warm? The other cat throws up in the mornings, before eating. I did not know the cause for a long time until I was told about bilious vomiting syndrome: vomiting on an empty stomach, especially first thing in the morning . Nothing really serious, seems like it often happens with older cats. More frequent feedings or free feeding possibility during the night may help. It's just that my cat refuses to eat if I don't wake up to feed him personally, which can be a bit too late and then he vomits ^^°

My 12 yr old tends to vomit right before her next meal, so it's always clear. We've gone from feeding her every 5 hrs to every 4 hours ( I bought an automatic feeder for this) and it mostly works, but she still will vomit sometimes 5, 10, 15 minutes before her next meal time. It's strange, and the vet doesn't know why. She wanted to prescribe Omeprazole but I really don't think depressing her ability to produce acid, especially on a forever basis, is the right answer. Especially because I feed her a raw diet.
@MelemBayati Жыл бұрын
If it is just bile, maybe it is the bilious vomiting syndrome, vomiting on an empty stomach? My cat has this, and I didn't know the cause for this for a long time before I saw the pattern in his behaviors.

My newest cat occasionally vomits, but it is because he sometimes eats too fast. He spent several months abandoned before we adopted him, so we think that's why he overeats.

My cat had hyperthyroidism.
@TheCatButler Жыл бұрын
How did they find out?
@MichelleBlessing Жыл бұрын
@TheCatButler it was difficult! She was throwing up everyday, she wasn't eating great, her stomach was too soft(?) and she had developed what looked like scratches/sores around her eyebrows. One vet said furballs and an allergy, but I sensed something else was wrong then a second vet did two tests and I got the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism. He actually knew immediately. The most important thing is that if you're a pet parent and are not happy with a diagnosis, get a second even third opinion. Trust your intuition and your knowledge of your cat. She's on Apelka now and doing well ❤️❤️❤️
