The opposite of sensitization is desensitizing. This includes applying the understanding of what your symptoms are, which is what we started to talk about today, expressing and regulating emotions, reducing catastrophizing exposure training and time.

So I have been doing brain retraining and it’s been helping but I just had Covid and it seems almost all of my old symptoms are coming back. Or they are trying to…I can tell it’s sensitive and I know what is happening but it isn’t changing the way I’m feeling or the symptoms. What do you recommend when Covid does this? I know my brain is causing this.

So I am believing on this more and more as I reflect back on how it all started. My pain journey began with prostatitis which was very distressing as it caused extreme urinary urgency. That turned into pelvic pain. Then my low back and buttock pain after stress at work . Funny how years of chronic pelvic pain vanished to be replaced by the low back and buttock pain which is not constant but can get so severe only opioids can help the pain. Now I have fear of the pain because it makes me need to take opioids which I don't want to have to do. They said my back and buttock pain are from osteoarthritis but I have pain-free days sometimes! So have you ever seen people who were on opioids for years get better? I think now they are part of what makes me more sensitive to pain.

This is me. Post concussion syndrome from a fall over 3 years ago. CFS and Long Covid as well. My brain is trying to shut me down and I am having lots of symptoms when I go out. I went to church yesterday and my brain went mad. I was determined to stay there and it went down a bit. Stress of long term illness causes its own stress.

I’m seeing a PT who is trained in central sensitization- it’s been a game changer. More and more PT'S are being trained in CS. It’s covered by insurance. My opinion- the more sensitization it may take longer to recover. What are your thoughts on that Jim? I LOVE your videos Jim. You stand out in this field. As far as I know, you are the only one who looks at the research and updates all of us on it. For me, knowledge is power. The more facts I can lean into the more I can regulate my nervous system. I don't know what your specific symptoms are, but somatic tracking is a helpful tool. I can find it useful to apply during stress and emotions too, as in 'I can feel safe and be experiencing this anger at the same time', Emotionally, if you are finding it difficult you could try some kind of therapy or journaling. Gratitude can also be a good practice. May be identify the areas in which you struggle with emotion or suppress it. I hate journaling, bores the crap out of me, but I've started just doing it with anything I find particularly difficult, like anger. So I'm only writing a couple of sentences once or twice a week. Enough to help, but not enough to feel like a chore.

I had to laugh(or cry) as my Cleveland Clinic neurologist shot me down when I brought up the possibility of my symptoms being caused by central sensitization. He said the term has been overused. My symptoms started after acdf c3-c6 neurosurgery with increasing sensitivity to metals when touched by my badly compressed fingers(all metal allergy testing was negative). It steadily progressed to allodynia and hyperesthesia to almost all fabric including leather. At this point he and my PCP are just prescribing gabapentin, baclofen and recently duloxetine.The neurologist has only approved water aerobics and walking but not pt, massage or any other modalities since they don’t know what is causing it. My neurosurgeon said it was up to me but he thought there was a 50/50 chance that posterior cervical surgery to add stabilizing rods might help but considering my hypersensitivity to metals that didn’t make sense to me!

This is absolutely great information, love how you provide us with the research Jim! Thank you so much for sharing this content and also for mentioning HSP.. I was going to write about it and ask you and then you mentioned it.. 🫶🏼 I could see how the sensitization has built up over my life, for me.. I am so happy I found the documentary “Sensitive” and have a better understanding of myself. I am much more accepting and compassionate with myself, which has helped in this recovery from fear and sensations journey.. Again, thank you, I have seen other coaches and they are great.. your approach with somatic work and being compassionate to ourselves has truly been the key I needed..☺️🙏🏼 So grateful to have Coach Anna through your success stories as well..🫶🏼💜

I am depressed because of my symptoms! I have been experiencing Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and MCAS with a super strong smell to chemicals and fragrance! Reactions sometimes. Also Mold toxicity. My reactions can change all the time. I dont know how to stop the rumonating now. Its taken a very strong mental toll on me. How do you get un stressed when you feel hopeless? 4 and a half years with this crap and its gotten worse. Now terrible tinnitus and brain ringing as well

i do also have severe mcs. m tinnitus left after doing neuroplasticity with DNRS program. Somatic is very important following Jim's teaching. i have seen a shift since i am doing somatic with Jim. There is a cure for mcs. MCS is perceived danger pain. AS i am listening to this video i do see the over sensitizing aspect with MCS. The most important part is to lower your stress response which you could learn with DNRS or Mindful Gardener on youtube. Best of luck, Do not give up, you can reverse it.

Developed migraines 10years ago. I have zero control to stop the headache once I’m triggered. It’s hell because I rarely go a few days without being triggered. Quit drinking many years ago and was afraid certain kinds of music would tempt me back into the old lifestyle so I did my best to avoid it. Ironically whenever I heard that music I used to listen to I would get a bad headache. This scenario migrated to about 6 triggers before I was able to stop it from advancing. Sounds crazy I know but I’m stuck in this cycle and nothing has helped to heal it.

This sounds like me but it seems like it's overwhelming to me all these big fancy words the simple term for this is perceived danger pain the brain thinks you're in danger so it sends symptoms to the body to distract you from what's really going on emotionally distress. It's important to convince the brain that we are not broken you're safe

This is terrible to learn. Central Sensitization is irreversible according to the medical community. I believe them. The fact that you metion it causes emotional distress is not at all surprising. Perhaps you might learn to fear it less, but you will have at least, and likely more, pain for the rest of your life. Nothing you said indicated it was mallable in anyway.

You do all these videos and never once have I heard you discuss “ what are considered STRUCTURAL?” ??? Very Frustrating brother !!!! It’s kind of important that you start speaking on this !!! Is instability considered structural ?
@chriskneifl3290
@chriskneifl3290 4 ай бұрын
Structural causes are just what they sound like: a problem with the body that is fundamentally physical in nature. For example, a sprained ankle, a broken arm, or a cut or bruise, etc. These are often the result of an acute injury. And as Jim says in this video, if you have a pain in the body that's not responding to traditional treatments (like PT, for example) and that's not the result of an injury, then it's likely not structural in nature. It's easy to split hairs over this and outthink yourself, but I think that Jim has actually covered this point quite well in MANY videos.
