Great video. It's been posted 4 years ago, but if possible, can you correct the explanation about phase 0? Testing drug in the animals called as pre-clinical, and phase 0 means totally different.

Clinical Trials are a great option for people who are not having great luck with current standards of treatment.

Useful, but incomplete. For example, the Risks (1:46-2:09) neglect to include adverse effects and harmful side effects. An example might be a pancreas drug which causes cardiac, kidney or liver problems.

placebo is inactive drug... why should give to subject!
@RhoninFire
@RhoninFire 7 жыл бұрын
This is a month old now, but I want to explain this if you're still wondering. Placebos are given because a trial needs to figure out if the drug actually help (or hurt) or is the person just thinks the drug did (and sometimes just thinking it help actually have real effects itself).

It's true that a placebo is inactive drug. The control group is blinded and its members must NOT know if they receive the new drug or NOT. So if we will NOT give them a placebo they will know that they are NOT receiving the new drug and this will not be a blinded study. Hope this help!

Because placebo works. Placebo also have a therapatic effect. For example placebo is 75% effective in treating depression as real antidepressants. Placebo is 50% effective in controlling pain in comparison yo real painkiller. So researchers want to know that the drug is better than placebo or not.

Placebos are given, so that we can compare the results of the placebo to the results of the actual drug meaning that we can give a valid comparison and see if the drug actually works
