@@Bowling4986 People go about making money off youtube the wrong way. Most successful youtuber dont just sit and wait for a paycheck from daddy youtube. Most people who are big and making money doing this did it by building a brand. They make merchandise to sell, crowdfund, doing sponsers. The lesson is that they open up more ways to earn revenue than ad sense. The people who were dumb enough to only depend on ad sense set themselves up for failure and were never good entrepreneurs to begin with. They dont have to quit youtube and "get a real job", they just need to branch out and open the doors to more ways of making money. A lot of the successful youtubers could have their whole channels deleted and still live comfortably. Thats because they did it right.

Yea, animations is going to get fucked pretty hard by this, and not even mentioning demonetization. We're talking channel deletion. Now that "animation" is considered "targeted to children", anything thats 2d falls under this new stipulation. So now it doesnt matter if you're Cyanide and Happiness, Happy Tree Friends, or Hazbin Hotel, to youtube you appeal to children because "ooo look at the pretty pictures!" It makes me wonder if even using channel avatars in videos count too? Cause a lot of creators in this space like to use their avatars in their vids and that could be seen as "appealing to children".

Now with this whole COPPA controversy and paranoia about getting fines, I'm going to make my content a little less kid-friendly and instead focus on edgier and more graphic LEGO content. Unfortunately, other LEGO channels might suffer since they do toy reviews or brickfilm animations for children. I understand where you're coming from, and I'm really glad to hear the other side of the argument. However, my counter argument about the fines are that when you actually read the descriptions of what will be considered "Child Friendly Content" are so vague and out of touch with the modern world that honestly any normal video aimed towards modern adults can be targeted and fined for no other reason than it had bright colors, or featured toys in some way, or talked about a video game like the Legend of Zelda. KZbin *is* a social media website, however it's also a platform for people to display their creations, earn a living, and have fun. I believe that fining people for doing what they love (specifically talking about animation channels) is wrong and will never be right, and certainly cannot be justified by the fact that the bad apples will get targeted worse.
@lloydlandrum30405 жыл бұрын
Heck the rules shouldn't even be that vague is the first place as there existed animated porn from atleast 1929 and it was made in the U.S its known as ''Eveready Harton in Buried Treasure'' and throughout the years adult animated projects that wasn't porn but still has a X and R rating existing throughout the years after that and never stopped... So the guidelines/rules/depictions have no real excuse to be that vague in the first place
@alistair49095 жыл бұрын
I was honestly thinking about this the whole video after he brought up ChadTronic. While his manic presentation definitely isn’t what we need, his fear of the vagueness of what was defined as “kids content” was the main point of his video and I think it’s 100% valid. I’m sure early on these vague definitions would be taken advantage assuming they aren’t better defined before this goes into effect. if there’s content that really means something to you, it’s probably a good idea to save those videos to a hard drive. I doubt all our favorite KZbin channels will burn to the ground but there will be content and probably great channels that get lost in the shuffle

In a perfect world I’d agree completely, however a lot of websites are so huge that they require an intense amount of money just to sustain themselves. Most people seem to find ads incredibly annoying and use an ad-blocker as well which doesn’t help. Sites have tried to implement messages asking the user to turn off ad-blockers too but this often tends to backfire as these messages are even more annoying. If a website is free to use, requires a ton of money just to exist, and can’t collect that enough of that money from ads due to driving their users away from being annoying, how can they collect enough money to operate? The answer is tracking. Do I think tracking like this is a good thing? Heck no. But I can’t think of another solution that doesn’t have some downsides. It’s pretty much, either your site tracks its users, it’s annoying, or both if you’re really desperate. Or, alternatively, it does none of those but also isn’t free, which people seem to dislike even more. Perhaps more sites should offer an optional subscription service that gets rid of personalized ads? I am with you Coppa is a good thing and need to stay, but still given the rules/guidelines I have seen Coppa say what is considered as kids stuff ,they seriously need updating like very badly as they are so outdated and blanket statements that are worded in such a way that how myself and others read it is last I looked into it anyway is that a animated program for adults be it a cartoon, anime or self made animation would need marked as for kids despite the content not being for kids... Yeah those rules/guidelines are that outdated and that out of touch again last I checked
@lloydlandrum30405 жыл бұрын
@Brianna Goldman I didn't say Coppa is being reasonable or smart but there needs to be something protecting kids who are on sites as adults can't keep a eye on kids all the time... While other cases its neglect or them getting used... Among other things... But the current way they have worded the rules/guidelines for kids stuff basically means anything animated would be need labeled as for kids among other things that aren't just for kids or shouldn't be seen by kids will need labeled as fr kids.. For example of a obscure fact here; the earliest known Western animated porn film is known from 1929 and it was made in the U.S its known as ''Eveready Harton in Buried Treasure'' and going by how vague Coppas guidelines are that could be technically labeled as a thing for kids on how Coppa has worded the rules and guidelines I can name other examples too like Fritz the Cat from 1972 and its a X rated animated film

forget outdated- its also Culturally insensitive AF. Japan in particular has Gundam plastic models, which are mostly Adult geared, as many of the Series have adult themes, but the FTC will see those as "Toys" and automatically kids content. then there's just Anime in general, all of which is considered "For Kids" which it isn't. and don't even get me STARTED on how Hentai is considered Kids Content by FTC standards.

And then 13:40 happened. Now, if I'm getting this correctly, and I hope I am, you are okay with COPPA being a thing, but hate how KZbin is trying to comply with it in every single wrong way possible? If so, that is much more understandable, and I am okay with it. And everyone else should be at least understanding of it. "we have very strict laws about advertising to children" I know COPPA is a good thing, but like, come on, have you seen ads? foods targeted to kids still have cartoon animal mascots and have vibrant packaging. I've seen it suggested that insurance companies have cute mascots like Geico, Afflack, and Progressive in order to get their brand recognized when the kids grow up and...buy their insurance! COPPA is probably as strict as it gets.
@j.c.22404 жыл бұрын
The laws state that there has to be a clear distinction from the show and the ads (the 'after these messages' things you see on Disney and Nickelodeon), the ad can't run during the show (this means no product placement or integration, and no stopping the show to advertise something without that 'after these messages'), and that the main characters can't sell the product during the show (this means that Elmo or Cookie Monster can appear in an ad to sell something, but they can't sell something during the show or mention that they were in a commercial). Since ceral mascots aren't in any TV shows aimed at kids, they're well within a company's rights to make. Their job is to get your attention, and the mascots are just companies doing their job.

@@chatboss000 Welp, this response is way longer than I intended it to be. Strap in. Firstly, since almost every company is doing targeted advertising, it makes access to a massive amount of things technically illegal by those under 13. It should either be allowed for everybody or disallowed for everybody because this compromise thing is bringing age-based censorship. Secondly, it applies to every company that operates in the USA, meaning even those outside of the USA have to be over 13 to use these apps. This is the USA interfering with other countries. Thirdly, it is yet another thing introduced by governments to “protect” children far more than they need to, with the old men in power assuming people under 21/18/16/13/whatever age limit they decide to put in place that day have an IQ equal to that of a potato. Back when I was under 13, I was angry that I couldn’t allow websites to use my data and that I had to lie about my age, because, believe it or not, I had the mental capacity to understand the concept and ramifications of giving my information to corporations and preferred (and still prefer) targeted advertising. I would rather have adverts tell me about new things that I might actually want to buy, instead of something like tampon adverts. I support and always have supported the concept of youth rights, which is, in essence, the relaxation/nullification of many of these child protection laws because they oppress rather than protect. Lastly, I find it insulting that they’re just gonna say “everybody under 13 likes cartoons and bright shapes, and everybody 13+ likes watching real people (not cartoons), in greyscale, talking about mortgages and health insurance”. How can they do something like that? We are all individuals with our own preferences. And children grow up faster than the people in charge think - most 11-year-olds aren’t sitting there drinking hot cocoa out of a baby bottle, eating their own boogers and watching Peppa Pig. Come on now. Add to the fact there is no way that a program can be both for under 13s and for over 13s according to the statute, which is equally ridiculous. People of all ages sit down to watch the news, gaming videos, documentaries, music videos, comedy films, the list goes on - yet COPPA doesn’t seem to recognise this.

I'm gonna be honest here: the fact that I'm considering moving my content to BitChute (and maybe Soundcloud) was never about COPPA. It's all about how with every change KZbin makes, it's *_always_* at the expense of the creators. This change is probably the most egregious one yet, and the fact that it was brought on by COPPA is irrelevant. It could come from some obscure Uruguayan law from a hundred years ago for all I care. The majority of my content is remixes of video game and/or meme songs. None of these remixes have any lyrics, so there's no foul language to be offended over. My first two (public) videos I ever posted were pure meme videos, and between the two, the words used in them are "you", "will", "give", "me", "an", "egg", "no", "extreme" and "close-up". Nothing that isn't child-friendly here. The one video I actually _did_ voice is about a theoretical Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends episode. Still child-friendly. Among all of these videos, every single piece of visual is a still image with maybe some transitions, with no blood, gore, sex, etc.. All of this should be considered child-friendly, yet somehow, someway, I almost expect KZbin's machine learning system to screw me over anyway. Whether it's $11K, $42K or even just $5K, even _one_ false positive on my channel and I'm _done for._ This applies to any other small KZbinr that does this not for income, but as a hobby. Why should we be put into a position where we can be falsely issued fines over the "mistakes" of an AI? I've already said this on Regnilla's video on the subject, but... you'd think by now that KZbin would realize that screwing over KZbinrs- you know, the people who actually made this site what it is- would be a bad idea. Clearly, they never learn.

Mr. Enter, I've watched your videos since 2013 and I just want to thank you so much for being around! You've evolved so much in those years and I'm really glad I've been able to see it all. As long as you continue making content, I'll follow you wherever you go :3 (sorry if bad english, not my first language)

You didn’t really address the issue I personally have seen brought up the most. The kid appeal=kid marketed thing.
@JustaGuy_Gaming5 жыл бұрын
Very true it's one of the worst "vague rules" mentioned. I can understand video's that star children and most the others. But simply doing something kids might find appealing is pretty vague and scary. I know growing up and even now tons of kids liked adult content. Many kids wanted to get into R rated movies to be cool or play M rated video games like Mortal Kombat. By those vague rules it makes them "appealing to children"
@UltimaKeyMaster5 жыл бұрын
That's why people are afraid. If someone makes a Sonic video or a Power Ranger video, because of this vague shit, they're afraid of being hit even if they just wildly swear or use the game as a background to talk about anything else. You *should not* be assuming people who make videos of those properties are appealing to children.
@jacobmonks37225 жыл бұрын
Chadtronic still has a very good point that the distinctions highlighted by the FTC are extremely vague and could spell VERY bad things if applied broadly, which is very likely given the poor explanations. I don't agree with fear mongering in general, I would much rather people talk about solutions, but Chadtronic's video should not be 100 percent dismissed as just fear mongering clickbait. He makes good points.

Infact those who made those vague standards have no excuse to make them that vague as there has been adult animation sense the 1920's and it has never stopped being a thing... Which combine that with KZbins way to decide what is or isn't kid friendly and the like technically a animated porno from the 1920's could be classed as ''for kids'' by the bot or other adult rated animated things that check even more the boxes that the vague standards are set as

Can we just acknowledge that many children under the age of thirteen learn about war and read books with mild, brief swearing in school? So, that part of the "war is a no-no for those under thirteeennnnn uWu~ please no speak-y of reality" is stupid any way you slice it. Many people can't talk about history, science, classic Literature, or all sorts of things taught in schools on this platform (successfully anyway); yet, people who scream for ten minutes about "'HI-larious' Top Ten Moments Cartoon Characters Have Accidentally SWORE!" have typically gotten slaps on the wrists, despite purposely breaking these "new" rules. These "new" rules are hardly new. They're only being enforced in a tsunami now because KZbin dug themselves into a hole and are forcing their users to bail them out. It's like dealing with apartment managers who don't listen to constant complaints and knowingly subject their tenants to harm, only to have a sudden burst of "helpfulness" whenever the State comes for inspection. Abruptly, the management is screaming at tenants to let them in and allow them to fix issues that could have been avoided entirely had they'd done their job from the start.

If you watch Chad's recent video, he states that KZbin messed up, but ultimately at this point, it doesn't matter-because the FTC *does* want to come after individual users, instead of KZbin changing how it tracks users or allows people to use its website in the first place. KZbin could change their system so that users would have to be logged in to a regular account in order to be tracked. For children accounts, they could set it up similarly to how like kids' emails would work or how Netflix works-the parent is the primary account holder, but the kid can use their account under restrictions (such as not being tracked). People could still receive ads on videos (and the creators who receive ad revenue from them would still be able to get that money), but they would not be targeted ads. But Google's entire schtick is tracking people to deliver ads, so they're not going to change. Instead, they *are* passing the buck onto creators, and according to the conference, they do want to be able to come after creators. Who knows to what extent and what exactly will be covered in that? I don't disagree that COPPA is important to protect kids, but it is archaic and to put any blame on creators is yikes. Perhaps, instead, the FTC needs to update its laws on tracking users, since this has also been an issue with other advertising-based platforms like Facebook. I think it's important to be vocal about both the COPPA rule going after creators (because again, due to the vague nature of it) and against KZbin.

Thank you so much for this video. So many apocalyptic videos on this topic out there. Also, I strongly recommend people to actually watch the press conference video. It has so much more context. More importantly this key point. "If you have knowledge that your channel or content is not child directed you will not be held liable."

6:07-6:22 Seeing little kids becoming popular with big, corporate KZbin channels (even going as far as having a show on Nickelodeon like with Ryan), makes me very uncomfortable. I get very worried about their emotional and mental well-being and the possible long term effects it can have on them. Seeing videos of kids pretending to shoot zombies with Nerf guns for instance is charming because they’re just silly videos made for fun with no monetary or corporate intent (especially if the video has little to no budget).

Are they really gonna fine individual creators though? I thought KZbin themselves would get the fine and take action from there. Also, what about the people who don't have ads?
@archoflife59105 жыл бұрын
@@blyjd91 yes the FEC themselves said that the content creators are gonna get fined, and it doesnt matter if the video has monetization or not, if KZbin or the FEC find a video that they believe is marketed towards kids, and it isnt marked, the content creator is liable for the 42,000 fee

I agree with you on this. COPPA is not the one that is to blame. KZbin is. But unfortunately, the people that are being struck the hardest are the art community. And there are legitimate reasons to be worried. According to KZbins guidelines, anything that has any cartoon characters, bright colors or contains anything that might be child friendly content, will not be able to create new content. Also the comment section will be removed too. I first heard about this issue from NerdECrafter and I do believe that she has some valid concerns about the whole situation with the perspective of the art community in mind. And this is also the reason why I was hesitant at first to agree with you. But by the end, I now realize that there is more nuance to the situation than I thought. Even still, there are ways we can help. Remember NerdECrafter’s video that I mentioned? She did provide several links to sources that can reverse the desision before next year. So instead of spreading fear, extend support to those who need it the most. KZbin may be broken, but we as content creators and viewers are not.
