Trained, well looked after dogs are far more effective than alarm systems. Leave a dog inside the house as well when you leave home. Criminals will move on to the next house if you have a large dog inside the house as well... Learned that from an interview with prisoners actually.

Not sure how I came across this... But she really did a good job cutting the race part out of it. She summed it up to education. Provide better education and opportunities in the poorer areas and over time hopefully the crime in the "richer areas with the more educated" will become less.

No specifically for murder that is incorrect. The data does not support your assertion. In any event the murder statistics during the apartheid era did not include all the murders that took place in townships and the former homelands.

@@pet5467 forgive me, I stand corrected. But you cannot deny the fact that crime and AIDS and rapes have gone off the charts since the end of apartheid. It seems that in virtually every country in Africa when the Europeans were expelled from power those countries have descended into chaos, dictatorship, starvation, and crime. Just like Europeans outgrew monarchies for the most part, certain demographics aren't very good at dealing with different types of political and governmental systems.
