5.7x28mm Brass Coating Elite Ammunition
Finally once and for all. The 5.7x28mm brass needs the coating to function and NO it doesn't have a damn thing to do about feeding from the P90 magazine.

Even some of the newer guys sometimes think the coating isn't needed, and I can't get them past the fact they are doing more work to remove the coating then to wash it.

I knew it. 5.7x28 works like a pseudo API Blowback. No resource lists P90 and Five Seven as API Blowback guns but they kinda are. They are similar to Oerlikon guns indeed. Great video 👍🏻. I have a question though. If someone made a fluted chamber gun in 5.7 like an MP5, would it work without the coating?
@EliteAmmunition

No sure, it would be pretty costly and why since the brass comes coated . It would be an engineering exercise.

Great information!!! Nice presentation explaining how it works and how to stay safe. Now it's easy to understand why we haven't seen a bunch of bolt action guns in 5.7. I've never had any interest in a 5.7 pistol of semiauto rifle, but I was interested in a bolt action rifle strictly for handloading. Not anymore. This is a specialty cartridge that requires far more prep and considerations than anything else I reload for. In the end for me it simply isn't worth the trouble.
@EliteAmmunition
@EliteAmmunition 25 күн бұрын
That's why Savage never brought their bolt action to market. They had to flute the chamber and that increased manufacturing costs to more then they wanted. The head Engineer on the project owns the one R&D Savage rifle. He asked Savage to sell it tohi and they did. The off the shelf action that could work really well is the Ruger 10/22. Many folks forget they made a beefed up 10/22 action in 44mag for hunting. So the 10/22 platform would be a great jumping off point for a semi rifle besides the carbine they make based on their pistol.
@frankbrowning328
@frankbrowning328 25 күн бұрын
@@EliteAmmunition2:28 I remember the 44 mag autos. They were actually the 1st and not the 10/22. They tried later to reintroduce another design in 44 mag many years later but it wasn't around very long. Same with the 10/22 22 mag. I wish they still made the original 44mag auto. The old used ones are very expensive today

Greetings! My reloading spans about forty five years, and I thought that I had the "coating issue" handled... Hmmm. I have about fifty once-fired cases that I un-coated for "midrange" cast bullet loads; it looks like I'll be OK with these under-maximum loads, but should endeavor to protect the coating on brass for hotter jacketed reloads. For the handloader, it's a shame about the shoulder blowing forward as a necessary part of the pressure cycle, as this overworks the brass. However, it sounds like if handloaders stay away from maximum loads, five to six reloads can be expected. Thank You for your insights!

@EliteAmmunition

Not sure, still waiting on my S&W, I refused to over pay even at the distributor level for one. My concern with the S&W is the rotating barrel. The metallurgy has to be spot on with the lugs. Combine that with all the cost cutting in manufacturing lately that has me concerned.

Great video!! I didn't realize the left-over coating in the chamber needs BrakeKleen to remove so that will happen later today. Thanks for that. I polished the feed ramp and chamber on my Sig P229 Legion with 3,000 grit wet/dry. Will that do the job on my 57?? Cut a slot in a wooden dowel, slide in the w/d, then use an electric drill to get the spinning?? Again, thanks for the excellent explanations!!

Car Clean to remove and fun fact if you call FN support they tell you to do that now after for about 10years telling people NOT to listen to me and do that. I use mothers and homemade polishing rods. I have never found anything I like off the shelf so like many of the other things I need for the FsN I made them myself.

@@EliteAmmunition To use Mothers means the chamber is pretty smooth to begin with. Cleaned it with BrakeKleen and then did the 3,000 grit on a wooden dowel for maybe ten seconds. Wow, is that thing smooth!! Slid the wooden shaft of a q-tip on the chamber walls and felt *no* resistance. Smooooth! Read the chamber with a digital micrometer and before I started, as far as the mike would reach (maybe 1/2") it read 0.03325". Got done with my little polishing and it read the same. Thanks for the help!!

you mention using the carb-cleaner "after you shoot"...is there any sort of ballpark round-count that a person should get rid of the lacquer in the chamber? Thanks!
@EliteAmmunition
@EliteAmmunition Жыл бұрын
No round count. I say this because depending on how cured the coating is sometimes it comes off very easily and if it's older ammo hardly at all. Just make a habit of a quick carb cleaner soaked Q-tip swab wiping. Once you perform a full cleaning keeping the chamber clean is easy if you just swab it. Only takes seconds.

@EliteAmmunition
@EliteAmmunition Жыл бұрын
I tried it. Not flexible enough and to thick. All of my powder measures have been coated in it inside and out, and slider assemblies. In fact it comes in colors and we use the colors to color code powder measures. Each of our loads has it's own measure so we are't wasting time adjusting and wearing out that portion of the measure.

@@EliteAmmunition That's a really good idea, I might have to pick up a bottle of it for that since it gets annoying having to graphite powder measures. Thanks for the answer, looking forward to the rock cam upgrade part.
@EliteAmmunition
@EliteAmmunition Жыл бұрын
@@PineyJustice Years ago I used powdered graphite also, FYI for anyone who does not know this. When you handle your gun powder during handloading the fine black power you get on your hands is NOT gun powder but graphite. Graphite is inert and used as a lubricant ON the gun powder. When the cerakote slick first came out my dipping guy suggested I give it a try. I had wanted NP3-Plus from Robar but the cheap pot metal powder measure bodies can't handle the tanking and plating procedure. I have been really happy with the cerakote slick.

91% really does not very well, red label 91% is what I use as one of my main cleaners around the shop. Acetone works but the vocs is very high. Walmart or parts store carb clean is the best. What makes your coating any different than the permalac label its covering? If they make you a special formulation then why do they waste the money of keeping a permalac satin lacquer label on the can? Not trying to be an a hole, just genuinely curious.
@EliteAmmunition
@EliteAmmunition Жыл бұрын
They make the bulk coating in 5 gallon drums that they stock and sell retail. You then have to mix it with the correct solvent, you can use three but only one works for use on coating cases. I was going to sell the coating in one qt.cans. Enough for a lifetime of cases. The labeling and MSDS bs was to much. Had I brought it to market you would still have to blend it, I was going to provide the ratio that works perfect for brass cases, then use some form of spray application system. Instead I approached them. They will make the blend it to order with the right mix in the can but again made to order and you have to buy in bulk. Min 12 can case. They have to have their info on the can, they were going to make custom labels for me but I would have had to buy 5k labels. Instead I arranged with them to be able to add my label to their default label.
