Watched this to better understand Kepler's 3 laws of planetary motion. I was happy to see that I generally understood them without the visuals (yay!), but the visual and explanations made it all the more clear (especially the math calculations.) Thanks for a great video!

Due to unfortunate 3 fractures in my leg I'm not being abe to go to school and our teacher was teaching kepler's laws..I had the notes but didn't quite understand them and coudln't ask my teacher as i couldn't go to school..This video is excellent! Thank You! Liked👍

Like most people in the comments I'm also studying for a test I have tomorrow, though for me it's an aerospace engineering test rather than a physics one. This video explained the three laws really well, my professor tends to jump into the maths before making sure we have a good grasps of the basics of what's going on!

Hi dcaulf, When discussing Kepler's 3rd law, I believe you have the orbital radii for the Earth and Jupiter in units of meters when it should be in kilometers. Although this doesn't change your answer because the units will cancel, but I figured I should let you know. Thanks for the video!

Please note that the values given in the video for the mean solar radii of both Earth and Jupiter are correct if the units are kilometers (km), NOT meters. Earth's mean orbital radius from the Sun is 1.5x10^11 m = 1.5x10^8 km. Because a ratio is being used in Kepler's 3rd Law, the effect of these two errors cancel each other out.

He stole all astrological maps and calculations made by tycho Brahe and than he stated seeing relations in them which after 11 years of studying all the maps and calculations he concluded all of them in three simple laws..."the Kepler's laws"......he was a true genius mate...bcz of Kepler even gallilieo could have visualised space

Thank u for your vids. One thing that i find slightly troubling is that kids are taught that th planets orbits are eliptical using exaggerations, so they never truly appreciate how incredibly circular they are. If one were to draw a perfect representation of earths path with a 200mm major axis, and on a transparancy draw a circle 200mm dia, one figure could not be distinguished from th other, even with a ruler.(earths major axis is 99.986% of its minor: so on our drawing, no point on th circle>>

Hi! Thx for the video. I have a question about Kepler's first law: isn't it possible that the initial speed of the planets was to high (instead of to low like you illustrate) to make a perfect circle. In that case the orbit is also elliptical.
