For those who are confused by the word ‘jealousy’- it is not the same jealousy as I’m jealous that someone has better things than me. It just so happens that there is no perfect word in English that is a synonym for the word ‘gheerah’ so we use the word jealousy.

Mufti Menk has the best explanation of what and how men are to be and the popular misconceptions, mis leading guidance, etc . Pure Islam isn’t what most Islamic countries practice . If it was they too would be following it and the sharia laws. Like any other belief be it spiritual or religious belief, many break off from the pure teachings and create their idea according to their culture and socio societal norms and conformity es mixed with their politics and controlling affirmations of population , so on and so forth. Having said that, human nature often is very lazy and would rather accept the words of someone in a higher position rather than to seek to educate themselves. That is a fact of human nature. The current state of how people are these days is specific proof of that truth. It is easier to be ignorant than to seek knowledge from all forms of free thinking and thought from people who have studied and researched and from there study and learn as well and come up with your own educated opinion and perspective . That is difficult for most people to do since humans are designed to be flawed . If we weren’t we would all be all sorts of amazing and perfect in every way . But we know that isn’t true. Pointing figures and insulting people for their beliefs be it right or wrong is just as ignorant and childish of the very same things you are having uneducated overly opinionated thoughts you are having. Educate yourself first then have a rational logical polite discussion . That applies to both sides.

Hafsa Abdi Men have a lot to do in today's time than then,at those times there were just traffic and trades and some heavylifting jobs that they can take rest from but today they have to be away from their home for a whole day and just return at night so what can you expect? Allah swt didn't just tell Men to take care of their women rather He also says women are guarding of what belongs to their husband in their husbands's absence so this means they have to take care of their amanaah as it should be. In my opinion if a Man does advice his wife and she still not listen to him its her sin not his. Lot of couples today are only bragging rights and divorce they don't try to understand that they have to support each other, Men use their gheerah as an excuse to abuse their women and women use Khadija radiyallahu anhu as an excuse to leave their husbands's sides when Khadija ra herself sacrificed her business, wealth and health for her husband and our Prophet SAW.

But I don’t think it’s okay to say husbands should enforce hijab (or anything) on their wives and vice versa, instead encourage them to be modest and help them if they’re struggling, these are the signs of a healthy relationship built on communication and trust not force. I will try to explain it as per my understanding. I am a married muslim man and I have ways been protective over my mother and sisters and now my wife. The country I was born in is 90 percent muslim however the culture associates with hinduism. When I got married I continued having protective jealousy over my wife, however even though we are both muslim our culture gains dominance with free mixing and customs that would be haram in Islam. Even my parents and some other family members gave me grief regarding my protective attitude due to the pressures of society and the CULTURE which sometimes takes precedent over religion due to a lack of education and plain outright ignorance. I would love my wife to have the same jealousy I have but she is who she is. I maintain my protective attitude and sometimes feel conflicted to just let things play out however I cannot bring myself to allow sin to go on in front of me, to allow fitna in that sense in my family. I feel this jealousy helps from allowing bigger problems into the home. Some people agree and others dont and to each their own. Now in regards to whether I try and protect my gaze I will be honest and say I have shortcomings at times in looking at a beautiful women however I will not stay focused on them. I do not surround myself with women although I can easily do so without anyone knowing. I do not talk to women who are not my family members. I have been in situations where I have had to be nice to female coworkers who wanted something more, and shaitan has given me whispers and tempted me, but I always have cut those thoughts out and kept it halal. I pray Allah allows me to continue being able to resist temptations. InshaAllah I can not and will not harm my wife in such a way or any way as I am placed in a protective role in her life because Allah will see and I would not want someone doing that to me. My sisters are married and to this day I am agitated any time they were even the slightest revealing clothing or talk a bit friendly with any other man except their husbands. Their husbands are muslim, but because of their cultural views are not opposed to the free mixing and showing off of their wives or commenting on others wives. We are humans we all have eyes but whether man or woman we should maintain the modesty in our family units. It is not a one sided answer. If a man is protective over the women in his life he will understand that other women deserve protection as well. Any man who does the opposite is a hypocrite. May Allah never make me among the hypocrites Ameen. Islam is correct and just because one claims or identifies as a muslim does not mean they understand what Allah wants of them or that they follow the commands of Allah. As I said culture takes precedent over religion many times. Whenever I am back home I feel pressure to abide by the cultural customs and I am an outcast at times because of my strong stance on this subject. But I do not wish to please men or women or society, although I may be weak at times in terms of my deen, I wish to die as a believer and a good servant to Allah and an inhabitant of Janna. Do not let this thought of womens rights and mens right cloud your judgement of what is right and wrong. People make mistakes but the commands and the will of Allah is perfect. Peace to you.

THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF JEALOUSY. BAD ONE: when u wish bad for other muslims or people In General and do something bad to them or question why u have less and they have more. GOOD JEALOUSY (GHEERAH) When u r protective over ur women and ur family. And u feel JEALOUSY in ur heart when u see someone practice the deen/religion better than u (like praying more or giving more in charity) This is considered good as it shows u care and u want to attain a higher rank in front of ur Creator. And so u compete in good deeds. Dont assume bad about God or the religion and do some research before writing a comment on utube. There are no sheikhs here. Thank God I stumbled upon this. hope u all benefited.

Protection. Not allowing sin in your home. It is the duty of the guardian to protect the womenfolk, not just wife but also daughters, sisters, etc. A dayooth lets the womenfolk be used by sinful men, a man with ghayrah does not. dono istabish The type of jealousy the speaker is referring to comes from a place of protection. A man who has Ghayrah will feel jealous when for eg. his wife is partaking in some sort of sin such as not dressing appropriately or if she is having any inappropriate contact with another male. This sort of jealousy is there to ensure womenfolk are protected by the man from sin. I hope that makes sense

Feminism has been originated to give women justice. Women ( along with muslim women) have been harassed and opressed by men and feminism is a result of that. Most of the Muslim scholars are busy to teach women how to behave with husbands , how to do hijab, the consequences and punishment of not doing hijab or not obeying husbands but almost none of them are teaching men how to behave with women, how to respect women, the consequences and the punishment of opressing and insulting their wives and other women that much. why? Are muslim men given the permission to opress and disrespect women? Aren't women human being? Why the society wants the women as the perfect obedient slave of the men? I am a muslim by heart. I love and have faith in Allah . But I'm not a supporter of the male dominance and oppression which is going on in this society. Please men, understand, we are human too, we are also capable . We're not your servant. Allah told you to be our protector not to dominate and oppress us.

You are spreading fitnah. Feminism has originated from disbelievers and has nothing to do with us. Scholars are busy teaching law of Allah, they adress all topics which are to be adressed. Stop making things up, they adress enough proper treatment of women. Anyone who searches for that will find it. *Those who avoid knowledge stay ignorant.* If someone does not wish to learn then it does not make a difference even if you chase him with it. You have a handful of videos on ghayrah, almost a quarter of which are from the same khutbah and you complain. Fear Allah.

Assalamu alaykum I think she was talking about the ‘men’ (even some Muslim men too) who mistreat women (like do horrible oppression to them) and subhaanAllah its actually disgusting. But also feminism is not a part of our Deen, since Allah Almighty has completed our religion for us and knows what suits us and what will help/harm us. But, I understand it’s extremely disappointing that way since these Muslim ‘men’ aren’t acting on it, and even are doing the opposite (even though they are Muslims! This glorification of male jealousy and misguided notion of honor is what results in honor killings and abuse of women. These imams are to be blamed for most of the problems in islamic society today.

Yeah, if you take it to the extreme. Have Balance with jealousy & you won't face these issues. Shaytaan causes humans to go to extremes & we have to pull ourselves back into the middle. Salam

@Practical Islam Or, women should leave abusive men. We should always stop the oppressor. Honor killings and abuse of women have no place in Islam. Salam.

Videos such as this normalize the notion of male jealousy and by extension their actions. I am yet to see a single Muslim speaker such as Nouman Ali Khan or Mufti Menk speak out against honor killings. They talk about modesty and the hijab ad infinitum, but never about holding men accountable for murdering their women. You can't blame shaytaan on judgment day. We will be held accountable and we need to stop enabling men to commit sin by giving them cop outs like jealousy and pride. Why don't you make a video about that for a change?

Drenched Firestarter.... If you are not jealous then that means you dont care. If you dont care then that means you dont love. Just imagine you are looking at other girls and your wife doesnt care. She doesnt care where you were, what are you doing and etc.

Salam brother, if this was true, Allah would tell us in the Qur'an that this is a big sin. In Surah Saba 13 tells Allah us that images are something positive: They made for him what he desired of enclosures, and images and pools of deep reservoirs, and heavy pots. 'O family of David, work to give thanks.' Only a few of My servants are thankful. Salam bro

Of course I believe in our prophet. But Allah says in the Qur'an nothing bad about images. We cannot be sure that the prophet really said that because Allah says something diffrent.

Where did He (SWT) say "nothing bad about images"? Sulayman a.s was a diffrent prophet. But here is what OUR prophet REALLY said about 'images': It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Among the people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers.'" أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ، ح وَأَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ إِنَّ مِنْ أَشَدِّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُصَوِّرُونَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ ‏"‏ الْمُصَوِّرِينَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ Grade : Sahih (Darussalam) Reference : Sunan an-Nasa'i 5364 In-book reference : Book 48, Hadith 325 English translation : Vol. 6, Book 48, Hadith 5366 It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The image-makers will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and will be told: 'Give life to that which you have created.' " حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الصُّوَرِ يُعَذَّبُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ أَحْيُوا مَا خَلَقْتُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ Grade : Sahih (Darussalam) English reference : Vol. 3, Book 12, Hadith 2151 Arabic reference : Book 12, Hadith 2234 It was narrated that 'Ali said: "I made some food and invited the Prophet [SAW] (to come and eat). Why should Allah say that pictures are something good and to an other prophet that this is a great sin. Allah does not forget. 19:64 We do not come down except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs our past, our future, and everything between them. Your Lord is never forgetful.
