About the humor: you'll probably find that some of it can be lost in translation for non-native English speakers who tend to take statements at face value, with some of the facial and context clues missed. It was pretty clear that you were joking, so I wouldn't take it too personally.

The recent burst of popularity of chess made me think about how I got back into it two years ago with all the "queen's gambit" thing, but the main reason I'm still into it, and probably never leaving, it's you. I remember the first time a saw one of your videos prior to all of the speedruns where you explained each and every move you made, making me really understand some ideas and concepts and making me realise I could be able to implement them into my own games. That made me enjoy and appreciate chess in a way I didn't think was possible. Even if some people might credit other youtubers and content creators for bringing new people into the game and making chess as a community grow (and for sure they did), I'm sure that the number one reason for the growth as a chess player of me and your other viewers it's you. You made us love the game of chess and taught us so much in a way that only you could, and the fact that you genuinely look a wholesome and awesome person is a wonderful cherry on top. Sorry for the WOT, I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you the best for your channel, chess career and life. Love from Italy!

Cool game, simple & straightforward instruction, good points offered on every move. At first I found your videos tedious to watch, Daniel, but I like them more and more as they’re bringing me into a deeper understanding of positional play and also just teaching me to be more patient at the board. And what I’m finding, as well, is that patiently thinking through the lines, thwarting threats, and eyeing positional weaknesses - in a nutshell, playing solidly - is immensely frustrating for some opponents who don’t know how to grind out a win. Thank you!

Thanks coach. This is somewhat of a difficult concept to grasp, since I'm fairly new and I just recently learned the basic objective of developing your pieces. I've found learning openings and theory like you GM types to be quite difficult ("according to theory, the next move should be ...". I've naturally realized developing my pieces is by far the end-all be-all; you still have to react to your opponent's moves. It's impressive to see you spend a minute of time talking about a move and the possibly implications and still find plenty of time win!

This is hearing the thoughts of a GM, perfectly explained! I have not seen any other player at his level accomplish this. What an instructive game. I've learned so much from your commentary! Working out this kind of positions where you intuitevly know that they are good for you but you need to grind it until opponent crumbles is such a pain for me because finding winning ideas takes time and you don't have time in blitz or even rapid I tend to go under 5 minutes with good position but opponent often has twice my time and I often blunder in the endgame and loose. That's tough but nonetheless you are a great teacher and a great man. Hope to visit Charlotte maybe and play some chess there!

I'm a Philidor player and I think this is great commentary on the opening. The Pirc-style move 1...d6, subsequently transposing to a Philidor position, avoids some of the inherent drawbacks of the classical line. I think that playing the Philidor sharpens positional awareness, as there are so many ways to wind up in an impossibly cramped position.

Can you please make a video on concept of space it's the most difficult for me to understand and in gm games they move a pawn one square up or move the h or a pawns and say they are gaining space and how significant it is.
@yzfool6639
@yzfool6639 Жыл бұрын
GMs do that because they are afraid of playing aggressively against each other. They are do-nothing moves most of the time, as the computer evaluations will tell you. Instead of admitting this fear, they say they are "gaining space" to act like there is some aggressive concept in their move. Please don't believe them. They wouldn't play a4 against YOU unless you castled Q-side or h4 against YOU unless you castled K-side. Contemporary GM's don't play for checkmate out of the opening. They play for endgame advantages It would help if you looked at Tal, Fischer, and Kasparov's games for GMs that played for checkmate right out of the opening. No a4s or h4s except to mate will be found.
