Hi. If in a Project the estimates calculated will be accurate if the desktops meet the hardware requirements specified for the software. This is an example of which of the following? Assumptions or Constraints ?
@rvvargas
@rvvargas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sumit The way you wrote it is a constraint. Let me write it better: The Project Estimates will be accurate only if the desktop meets the requirement specified for the software. You can see this is a condition or a restriction. Estimates will only be accurate if this happen. If you want to present this as an assumption you should say: The team is assuming that all hardware requirements meet the specifications of the software they need to use. In this case you are assuming this is true. Of course, all assumptions come with a risk. I hope this could help. Ricardo

Sir constraints and assumptions are part of scope of project? Please explain
@rvvargas
@rvvargas 3 жыл бұрын
Constraints and assumptions shape the project work Usually all assumptions generate risks that must be tracked and, eventually, answered. The constraints shape and limit the scope or the options you may have to handle the projects. They are not limited to the project scope. You may have a financial constraint, for example. Of course, everything is interconnected and one area affects the others. I hope this could help. Ricardo.

Dear Gurjantsingh Constraints and assumptions are related to all dimensions of a project and not only scope. If you use the PMBOK 6th Edition as a reference, you will see 10 knowledge areas (Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, HR, Communications, Risks, Procurement, and Stakeholders). Your project may have constraints related to one or several of these areas. Examples 1. Constraint - "Our budget is limited to $10,000". >>> This constraint is related to cost. 2. Constraint - "We must use only employees from the city we are based". >>> This constraint is related to HR mainly. 3. Constraint - "We can only do that work on Saturdays and Sundays" >>> This constraint is related to Time. You can see that, despite all being listed as constraints, you have them covering different areas. You can document these constraints in different parts of the project. It can be one document dedicated to constraints or you can put it together with a scope document or any other area of your project documentation. I hope this is a bit clear now. Regards,

So if I create a list of assumptions and then start creating constraints to eliminate some of them, do the eliminated assumptions still go into the project charter or only the constraint?
@rvvargas
@rvvargas 4 жыл бұрын
If you change the scope of your project by creating a constraint that avoids the assumption you will stay only with the constraint. However, in practical terms this is something quite challenging to make. Usually you create a risk response to answer for a potential assumption you do not control.
