Dr Berg!!! I suffered with RL for over 15 years, tried many medications. I started following your suggestions for IF and keto to lose weight and reduce inflammation. I have fibromyalgia. I have lost 25 pounds since February 2021 and the only problem I had left was Restless legs( severe). I bought the potassium citrate powder and nutritional yeast and followed your instructions. Wow did that work! 💖💖💖 I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!! May The Lord richly bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and your family and give you peace✨✨✨✨✨

I suffered (past tense) for years, until I saw someone’s advice written online. Desperate, I tried it and OMG, it works. Simply stand up keeping your legs straight, then bend as far as you can as if to touch your toes. Hold it for a couple of seconds. Repeat 3 or 4 times. It worked so well I rarely have it these days. Good luck.

I learned about Biotin for restless leg years ago, and have used it ever since. One sublingual Biotin (5000mg) when it is bothering me and it stops within minutes, so I can fall asleep. I've suffered from RLS fits maybe four times a month since I was four years old. RLS, in my case is so all consuming that there is zero chance of sleeping or anything else for that matter. At one time I was an armed guard securing a facility over night when the RLS kicked in. I ran up and down ten flights of stairs for over two hours until I could barely stand and the only thing I accomplished was drawing weird looks, ridicule and comments from my coworkers. It's impossible to deal with as an adult. As a child it drove me crazy and got me in trouble with my parents because I couldn't stop thrashing and they just "wanted me to go to sleep". They thought I was making excuses because I didn't want to go to bed. Doctors had no idea how to help me because RLS was unknown at that point in time. After being hit by a Truck and acquiring a Traumatic Brain Injury ten years ago, the RLS is now a constant, 24/7 issue instead of a few times a month. I've tried everything from lasers, acupuncture, acupressure, massage, running until I could run no more, diet, tens units, beating my legs until there were numb and several different combinations of prescription meds. Beating my legs only made it worse because the RLS was still turned up to 10 and my legs were now in pain as well. I'm allergic to several of the prescription meds that say are said to help the condition and the others did me no good. RLS has pushed me to the point that I came close to laying my legs over train tracks just for the escape and some rest! With my luck I'd be stuck with, both phantom leg pain and phantom RLS! Then what? I think laying my neck over the tracks would be more effective long term.....

Hello, Dr. Berg! I'm your new subscriber. For about 3-4 years I suffered RLS. At first, I didn't know what it was, that I kept feeling these tinglings and constantly moving of my legs at bedtime. The doctor informed me, it is RLS and gave me medicine. I'm against any medicine, and started taking Cayenne pepper. I noticed this started to make my legs feel so much better. Now, I feel like I never had it. Also, I forgot to mention, I started green leaf vegetables and fruits smoothie, and went on Gluten-free diet, which I believed helped to stop the symptoms.

Yolanda Reyes Yolanda Reyes I'm happy you found something that helped you. I've been diagnosed with rls when I was 24 now I'm 34 and I tried everything to make me feel better. I was basically the lab rat for my doctor's. What I'm taking now from time to time when it's so bad that I can't handle my day anymore is pregabalin which is against seizures and neuropathy but it works. My legs are feeling so light when I took it but I'm not recommended it for constantly use because of the increasing tolerance. I also tried different diet's but since I'm allergic to wheat and any kind of convenience food there's not too much options to me :) but I feel better since I'm not taking medication constantly. I hope you can increase your sleep comfort even more with alternative options :) much love from Germany :)

I suffered with RLS for 30-years, getting 5-hours sleep on average as a result. Over time it literally destroyed my health; sleep apnea, T2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, high blood pressure, obesity... I was taking Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, B-Complex supplements, as well as prescription Pramipexole (Mirapex), Gabapentin, and Cyclobenzaprine; all with no improvement. I used to thump my calf muscles with a rubber mallet to get some relief. Even taking Oxycodone would not help. Doses had been increased to the point where I was getting RLS symptoms in the afternoon (augmentation). It was a living hell. After a follow-up with a Cardiologist on an unrelated issue, he encouraged me to stop eating anything that had artificial sweeteners in it. A challenge for a Diabetic, but he said, if you want something sweet, have a little, as long as it's natural sugar. I strictly followed his advice and within 3-weeks my RLS symptoms started to fade, to the point that I stopped taking the Gabapentin and Cyclobenzaprine. One week later I stopped taking the Pramipexole, and was symptom-free within 1-month!! That was about 1-year ago. Now I fall asleep within 2-minutes and don't lose sleep to RLS. Yes, I'd heard previously to stay away from artificial sweeteners, "You're body doesn't know how to metabolize..." yada, yada, yada. I used to think it was a lot of bunk. But after cutting all the artificial sweeteners I am symptom-free for over a year.

I have gone about 4 days without RLS which is extremely eye opening since I was right in the middle of the worst case. It went away 2 days after I stopped taking my calcium citrate chewables. My first guess, is the calcium was causing my RLS. Although I've had this when I wasn't taking Calcium. But my RLS started when I was pregnant with my twins, and I believe my pregnancy could have released calcium into my system lasting for years. I looked up some things on calcium supplements and found that most the time they never get absorbed by the body, and it's like ingesting rocks, which accumulates and causes stiff joints and cramped legs.

I started drinking coconut water to increase my potassium, and it’s helped my RLS tremendously! I was skeptical, since I figured I get plenty of potassium from all the whole plant foods I eat, but I figured what the heck, I’ll try it. I was already taking magnesium, and for a while taurine powder seemed to help. Since I started drinking coconut water, about a cup to two cups daily, my restless legs at night hasn’t been an issue. Except for one night, but that’s because I had taken a decongestant, Sudafed, that day, and my experience had been that taking pseudoephedrine hcl will always make the RLS much worse.

Gentle stretching before bed might help. For a calf stretch, step forward and bend your front leg while keeping your back leg straight, in a small lunge. You can put your hand on a wall for support. Repeat on the other side. Stretching also helps if you've been sitting for a long time I made a video in my channel about 15 Remedies for Restless Legs Syndrome you can watch it

I'm calorie counting and eating healthier (higher fat intake from sources such as avocados, nuts, etc. and no added sugar and very limited processed food) and losing weight, now going into my 5th month. Not sure I make the 5 cups per day but totally understand your comment. One can only eat so much food and eating 2 cups of veggies or fruits per meal very filling. And I read that the recommended serving is 7 to 10 cups !!!

Severe magnesium deficiency is the major cause of Restless Leg Syndrome. More than 90 percent of people are deficient in magnesium, which is one of the most important electrolytes in the human body. I would suggest soaking your feet in Epsom salts or magnesium chloride salts three times a week to get complete relief. Sufferers of RLS can also spray their feet with magnesium oil at bedtime for a good and undisturbed sleep.

No matter how much veggies and fruit you eat, I don't think it's even possible to get that much potassium. The most I've seen is pomegranate juice which is 600 for a cup. The reason potassium is only 100mg, is because this can irritate your stomach. You need to take a buffer with it like Prelief.

Hi Dr. Berg, I have mitochondrial myopathy, which is an inherited and complex genetic condition. Fortunately, my friend HahnH introduced me to your KZbin videos. Since then, I have been able to platform some of my personalized treatment protocol on your healthy keto-based approach to eating. Treating complex genetic conditions - like the mitochondrial diseases - requires an understanding of the relationships amongst: cellular respiration, lactic acidosis, metabolic enzymes, electrolytes, food as healing, organs, and glands. Stabilizing my complex health condition is like balancing on a ball... very difficult, as the ball keeps wanting to roll away in new and unusual directions. For example, over this past week, a recurrence of restless legs kept waking me up. I tried my old 'go-tos' of orange juice, a banana, and a glass of almond milk. The problem persisted. Desperate for sleep, I rewatched your Restless Legs videos and, following your guidance, I took a potassium (citrate) supplement. Within minutes my legs calmed down and I fell into a deep restful sleep. I now have both B1 and Potassium Citrate next to my bed in the event of a recurrence of Restless Legs. Many thanks for your generous sharing of alternative approaches to wellness. Appreciatively, PaulaS

I'm so glad you are talking about this. I've had RLS for YEARS off and on. Sometimes it seems like a few weeks that I'm fine and then other times its bad. The muscles in my legs even tighten and then release- like a contraction. As for the banana's you mentioned, I can't eat them, they upset my stomach. However I love vegetables, I'm obsessed with them so I do get a lot of veggies in my diet. I've read that RLS is a neurological disorder? Yes/No?

Bewitching Charm it is. I'm having it too. The causes of rls can be a lack of vitamins and minerals but for people who having it for years or even their entire life it's more idiopathic. Which means the causes of this disorder is unknown. My rls is idiopathic. I've tried everything make me feel better. I've been diagnosed with rls when I was 24 but I have it since I'm a child. They gave me medications from a to z, I got a electrical needle in each leg and also I tried a kind of peridural anaesthesia but nothing worked for me :( I stopped taking medications because I was tired of being the lab rat. The only thing I'm taking when my legs are hurting too much is pregabalin which is usually against seizures and neuropathy but it helps so much :)

I have been taking requip for 6 yrs now for moderate to severe RLS. I'm 41 and I've had it chronically since 16yrs old, during a time I was dancing classical ballet 6 days a week so I know it's not about needing to move more. Once a blood test did show I was low on potassium but that was over a decade ago and since my blood work is fine from my drs perspective. I am so frustrated and even sad/angry about it. I am considering seeing a neurologist. I have often wondered if it may be my death. I feel completely dependent in the medication. There is no rest without it. I've even fallen asleep while walking and tripped over furniture. It affects my arms and hands as well. Do you possibly know why the requip works? Thank you! *Also it's called Willis Ekbom Syndrome. September 23 this year will the the "awareness" day for it. Seems like there is science backing it now from various sources, even John's Hopkins, that it's a neurological disorder.
@Speedster27076 жыл бұрын
It works on the dopamine receptors in the brain. It's a "dopamine agonist" which means it helps produced dopamine, which doctors have found to be very beneficial in RLS treatment. The problem is that when Requip was discovered, they didn't know that it also caused "augmentation" (worsening) of the RLS. It is now known. You can read up on it on line. Do a search for ropinerol or requip and augmentation. Get off it if you can. RLS is now being treated w/low doses of opioids (non-tolerance building and non-addictive doses). I'm on them now for the time being, but I'm also here looking for a natural solution because, who wants to be on drugs?. If you can't find a doctor that knows about opioids and RLS, try looking into Kratom, a powdered leaf. But be careful with it. Read up and be informed before you take it. I offer these solutions only because I know how terrible this disease is. It's been 20+ years for me. Good luck!
@mandyilene19766 жыл бұрын
Ah Thank you! Funny thing is that after all those years on requip and then not being able to afford it any longer, I had to abruptly stop the treatment. Jeffrey, you're describing akathisia. Many doctors do not know what it is. It is caused by medications...drug companies rarely put akathisia on the label as a side effect. They don't want anybody to know. Psych drugs cause it and some of those have warnings. SSRIs, Effexor, calcium channel blockers, Lisinopril, antiemetics, Nexium, migraine meds all cause akathisia. Also coming off a drug too fast can cause it, in the case of benzodiazepines like Xanax & Klonopin. If you are taking or have taken medications check to see if there is a group for it on facebook. That's where I learned that my symptoms were akathisia and not RLS. My doctor thanked me for the information, they have no idea. Only my pain management doctor understands akathisia.

As a physician, I would strongly advise AGAINST the daily use of high potency POTASSIUM solutions, without medical supervision, aka regular check of potassium blood levels, with your GP! Big amounts of potassium when ingested, might cause high potassium blood levels - a condition which is known as hyperkalaemia and is lethal(especially in the elderly, people with kidney problems or concomitant use of potassium-sparing drugs).

@@beditz1591 It's hard to get Calcium absorbed into the body from supplements. You have to take the right kind of calcium, (Citrate or Lactate), you need to get enough Omega 3's, Vitamin D, & K2. And even then not all of it gets absorbed. Dr. Berg doesn't recommend taking it on a regular basis. He say's it's like consuming rocks, it builds up in your body causing stiff joints and cramped legs. My RLS actually went away after I stopped taking my Calcium Citrate. I don't know for sure, but it's very possible that is what was causing mine. But it could have been cured from the added supplements I started taking too. I'm not entirely sure. But here is a list of all the things I've heard that can cure RLS. Iron, B-1, B-5, Potassium, & Magnesium, and weight loss. Also, in the middle of the night when my RLS would occur, I would pinch hard between my big toe and second toe for a full minutes, and this would sometimes make it go away.

At night I would rock from one leg to another, I would rest my head on my arms by the sink and carry on rocking and often times I would fall asleep and bash my face I would be so exhausted. All I was told by the Doctor was to try Magnesium, it did not help. Eventually I got to see a Neurologist who said it was a lack of dopamine and he put me onto clonazepan and requip slow release ropinirole, I believe this is also given to patience suffering with Parkinson’s disease? I have bought the Vitamin B1 powder and the potassium citrate, what I want to know is when and how do I take it, can I take it with those tablets, will it get me off that medium cation which I have been on for a very long time, and will I eventually just be able to take the two that you recommend? Of late my legs have got worse, my husband died recently after a long illness and I did not pay attention to taking care of myself and so put on a lot of weight. I have now been on a low carb diet and am eating a lot of low starch veg and beans and fish, chicken and healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, coconut oil, and very little fruit. I am desperate to get advice on the above as I need to get back to feeling healthy again. Your videos are about 3 months old, do I stand a chance at getting a reply? I do have low Thyroid so do not have any form of sugars or sweeteners, just what is in the little bit of fruit I eat, for example a small amount of blueberries, or strawberries. I now wear loose clothing to bed and my RLS completely went away. The tightness was irritating the nerves on my lower back somehow, causing RLS. There may be other causes but this is definitely one way to get RLS
