Understanding the Causes of Blood in Stool (Rectal Bleeding)

For those who are going through the concern and worry, here's what happened to me: I was having intermittent "spotty" bright red blood in/on my stool roughly once a month or so. It really seemed to be like clockwork in a way. I did not have any mucus, nausea or other symptoms. I just had the intermittent blood. After 6 months, I had a colonoscopy at 38 January of 2023. The results were a hemorrhoid. No polyps or cancers thankfully. I just wanted to share my experience and wishing peace of mind and good health to all of you!

I had watched many videos, most of patients who sadly suffer from colon cancer do not experience bloody stool, rather than bowl pain, for those who deal with bloody stool it is either hemorrhoids or Ulcerative colitis, while both internal hemorrhoids, and Ulcerative colitis at first and second stage can only cause bloody stool you still need to check with your doctor for the right treatment, colon cancer cause extremely tiredness unbearable pain and the majority of patients do not experience bloody stool, when I checked on Google I was so scared from stool bleeding after all the search I have done while waiting for my colonoscopy, so please do not take the web as a doctor, the only one that can really help is a true doctor, be safe and healthy

I myself have Anal cancer,and had bloody stools, bloody stools always need to be investigated!! There are so many reasons why someone might experience blood in their stool, but for me personally, after a colonoscopy procedure, I decided to stop consuming coffee because of the caffeine, and since then I haven't had another episode of blood in the stool. I stopped consuming caffeine after reading that it dehydrates the stool in the intestines and hardens it so much so that the dry fragments, which act and look like small pieces of metal fragments, that as it exits the intestines, it cuts or tears the anus tissue and prompts bleeding, and of course, it causes pain and panic. It's kind of like passing a kidney stone through the urinary tract. It's been over a year and half since my last episode, and my digestive system feels so much better as I no longer have any issues with straining or bleeding.

Thank God I saw your comment. I rarely hear anyone talking about coffee causing bleeding. The only time I have bleeding is when I drink coffee/caffeine. As soon as I cut out coffee, the bleeding goes away, but as soon as I return to coffee/caffeine, I start bleeding bright red blood when going to the bathroom. So I just quit for good this time. Also, the bleeding seemed to be worse when drinking it on an empty stomach.

You are absolutely correct. I actually never discussed it with anyone, and was only aware of the procedure due to conversations I overheard from other people. It most certainly is one of those "fierce conversations" nobody wants to have to discuss, much less be subjected to a screening test.

@@Qjemuse The doctor told me that dehydrated dry hard poo, when constipated, tears the anal fissures which then begin to bleed. Everyone's diet is different, and finding out the source of constipation, which causes dry hard poo to harden, is the only way to prevent it. In the past, its taken me about four weeks to recover from anal fissure tears. I hope this is helpful.

When I was pregnant with my son in 2004 I had an internal hemorrhoid and it swelled up so painful and they said it was a blood clot they had to slice it open and let the blood out and they said I would need surgery after I had him well he’s 19. I never got surgery done. I do feel issues of having an internal Hemorrhoid or right near the exit but it swells sometimes. today for the first time ever I had clear mucus with bright red blood with some diarrhea when I wiped which has brought me to this video.

Every few months, stating a year ago, I get a few days of extremely painful diarrhea with a bit of blood. Sometimes it can be one of the most painful things iv experienced. The blood is typically very mild, but constant if I keep wiping. On its worst days I might have diarrhea up to 8 or so times in one day. It varies alot, sometimes watery, sometimes sloppy, sometimes almost solid. Colour varies in browns, oranges, baiges, black. I don't feel unwell otherwise, no faintness, sickness, abdominal pain ect just horrible diarrhea that's hurts like hell to the extent I can't walk properly and makes me bleed. Starting to get annoyed with it now because i used to only call in sick to work once every couple years, but now I have to do It every few months. Can't find anything online that matches my symptoms.

My blood screen results shows hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cells, iron, iron bind cap are low, but ferritin and MCH are high, especially ferritin is twice as high as normal high, stool test shows blood and is pretty dark. DNA HFE in blood is normal. the stool test says bleeding occurs somewhere, but my doctors don't know what's going on.

I've had 2 bouts of gastrointestinal bleeding, the first in 2017, i was passing black stools and vomitted up 2.5 pints of blood which was black, then last year i was passing black stools again and normal vomiting. Had a building pressure near bottom ribs which turned to pain and extreme nausea. Doc started with rectal exam though I didn't need anybody to tell me I was bleeding. Then colonoscopy. And guy at work said get an ultrasound of your gallbladder so that was done and confirmed the problem. Doc said remove gall bladder so it was done, no discussion. I since learned there's options to clear bladder but I don't know what they are. Afterwards people opened up and I found they all had different symptoms. Internal pain, back pain, nausea eating pork, attacks from rich fatty food. That's about all I can tell you. Good luck.

Can someone help??? I've been having bleeding and hemorrhoid issues for years now. 1 yr ago I had hemorrhoid surgery, probably one of the worst surgeries possible. I don't have pollips or what ever it's called or anything else let the docs tell it. Now I'm bleeding so bad to the point where it looks like I'm going to bleed to death in stool and with dark clots. I can't whip enough to clean well cause it constantly dripping also to point where I have blood in my underwear, I'm sorry that it sounds gruesome, but I'm 41 an I'm terrified of what it could be or what could happen. My docs just say oh it's hemorrhoids an that's it!!! This is not normal even for this situation I think. Things I eat even when I'm not constipated causes it so if anyone has been through or going through an can help ease my mind please let me know.

I have been bleeding for more than a year now. The blood is not black but it isn’t bright red either . There is no blood on the toilet tissue but you see the blood as part of the stool. I had a colonoscopy last year and found 3 polyps which turn benign. He said there was nothing else. I went to an hematologist due that my WBC , Hemoglobin and RBC had been going up and down. I was positive to occult blood , wasn’t surprised at all.I also have bruises on my body but hematologist says I look fine and he thinks is an inflammation of some kind.

Iam seeing blood in my stool from 2 months and I have also low grade fever from 2 months and nauseaous I did my blood culture test and cbc everything was normal then I tell my doctor he said it’s normal without doing any test iam still seeing blood iam so scared and my fever is also not going down
