I was a professional dance and physical theatre artist and lecturer, so particularly fit for my age. I had rectal bleeding and was told I had haemorrhoids which turned out to be stage 4 anal cancer. After a colostomy, intensive chemo/radiotherapy I just about survived but over the past 7 years; whilst being very grateful to be alive, I have suffered with a range of complications including a badly herniated stoma, recurrent UTI's and other infections resulting in sepsis on numerous occasions, continuous hypoxia requiring ventilation . Ongoing pain, fatigue and use of large doses of strong pain killers. PLEASE be vigilant about symptoms, especially those associated with haemorrhoids. As with all cancers early diagnosis makes an enormous difference. AWARENESS IS KEY. Take care folks.

I have a dear friend who has just found out she has rectal cancer. She had constipation following following a surgery she had earlier this year, and then soon after that she thought she had a hemorrhoid. When she went to the doctor in the Spring and told them about the hemorrhoid, they just said that that's very typical after a surgery, from the constipation, and didn't do an inspection. When she went back for a physical recently, she told the doctor that she thought the hemorrhoid was prolapsed. As soon as the doctor examined it, they knew it wasn't a hemorrhoid and immediately referred my friend colorectal specialist. The specialist confirmed that it looked like cancer and the colonoscopy that followed showed it was inside the rectum. She still hasn't gotten the staging yet because the insurance company is taking their sweet time to approve the necessary imagining, but I can only imagine how much better things would be had her primary care provider just examined it in the Spring. I know that everyone says this, but this shocking diagnosis could not have happened to a kinder or more sincere person. 😭

The thing that helped me most werent any sorts of meds, it was changing up my diet drastically (so i really felt it, when you said this kind of disease changes your life). The change in diet really safed me. If you have problems / symptoms really get checked out! And if they persist, dont just take meds and hope it gets better this way (most often you only treat symptoms and not the root of the problem, which is a problem), go to a dietitian and get professional help! No meds, no side effects! But take your meds obviously if you need them. Changing your diet is just one really good way of reducing or eliminating the need for medication!

If your blood is bright red, comes out in clots or is dark, and is not from hemorrhoids, be worried. Especially if you're dizzy, sweaty, and don't feel well.Go to the ER, have your labs checked and if your hemoglobin or hematocrit is low( hemoglobin less than 9 or hematocrit less than 26) you may need a blood transfusion or an immediate colonoscopy to slow and stop the bleeding. I worked on a critical care step down unit as an RN for 18 years and saw this happen many times to patients. If you're vomiting blood, go to the nearest ER and get checked out immediately, ASAP. I’ve had rectal bleeding off and on for over ten years. My GPs never thought of sending me for a colonoscopy. I took part in a bowel screening where you send a stool sample of to check for blood. It came back positive. They arranged for a colonoscopy. In April a 11cm Adenoma carcinoma was removed from my rectum. I now have no anus, rectum and have a stoma for life.

Over 10 years and your GPs did nothing about it? What on earth. GPs, plural, means you went and sought out other opinions and still none suggested a colonoscopy or even a simple fecal test? That's awful. I'm sorry those doctors failed you.

A bidet doesn't have to be expensive. You can just use a plastic bottle, make a needle-sized hole on the neck of it, fill with water and squeeze. Or buy something like a Culo Clean. Works fine.

I had bleeding for a few years, went to the doctor and they said it was hemorrhoids, i was too young to have cancer. 2 years later still had bleeding, got a colonoscopy and they removed a cancerous polyp. i was 24. it was a pretty light red color, not as red as in the video but still light.

@@mariee.5912 true about getting 2nd opinions I am sorry to say but i hate those doctors who don't evaluate the problems and symptoms and just say it's nothing it's a basic problem or something

Got a lota jug from Amazon - they use them in Asia to get clean as very often the sewage systems can't handle toilet paper. If I had space for a bidet, I'd get one. It's refreshingly clean! Thanks for the video - helps me understand better so I can tell my Mam, who is going through investigations.

Handheld bidets are cheap and highly effective and easy to keep clean. They can also go where you go.

Please know that your local plumber highly recommend liberal use of "flushable" wipes. In fact, you should consider doubling up on the wipes - using two at the same time - to lower the risk of "accidental contamination" of your hands. Before you know it, your local plumber has his kids' college education paid for, and he'll start looking at acquiring both that yacht and that mistress. All courtesy of the business brought by "flushable" wipes.

Sphincter vs. rectal bleeding. It took me a number of years for me to make the connection. But, over Winter, I'd experience bleeding, sometimes, a lot. Not so much in the Summer. I figure it was from my weight fluctuation, 25lbs. up and down due to activity/inactivity. Then, it crept into my thoughts, "Winter ain't producing a lot of vitamin D due to the lack of sunshine on the skin..." So, I started taking vitamin D supplements. Well, what do you know! It only took a few days of supplements to bring the bleeding to an absolute halt.

I had hemorrhoids that were bleeding, so I had a colonoscopy and they said it was just hemorrhoids. Over 10 years later, I was having some bleeding again...bright red, and severe cramping and narrow stools, so I just had another colonoscopy and I found out I have Diverticulosis! Luckily, none of them were infected, but I have to be more careful about what I eat and I needed to increase my water intake. Although the prep is horrible for a colonoscopy, it's worth finding out what's going on inside our bodies! Don't assume it's just hemorrhoids.

I cannot believe you talked about hemmoroids. I had grade 3 internal hems prolapse last year. It was such a inconvenent and traumatic experience. So glad I did the surgery even recovery wasn't the easiest, at least I have my life back. I always lead a healthy lifestyle with no alochol and lots of exercises at early 30s (but I did strain ans sat on toilet for long time on my phone). This ailment and experience were humbling... Human body is weird.

Topic request? There was a story in the daily mail (search daily mail for: Chris Evans Urologist for the article) where a urologist gave advice to a (ginger) guy about how to deal with 'the drip' as he got older. Apparently the urethra develops a slight u bend in it as men get older, below the bladder, causes urine to get trapped there, and causes problems. The urologist gave advice on how to lift this u bend. As this is something that's likely to affect all men at some point, wondered if chaps could do a vid on this?

Sometimes if it's hard and won't leave my behind, I put on a glove and dig it out. It causes blood to flow out of there, but I feel better afterwards. I can prevent it from happening again, by taking my medication regularly.

I've had ulcerative colitis since I was 20. Anyone with an IBD type condition has a much higher risk of colorectal cancer esp if you let inflammation go on untreated, so do not wait to get symptoms addressed and get colonoscopies regularly (I get one every couple of years) if you have one of these conditions, even if you're young. My last flareup went untreated for three months and I ended up in the ER - I recovered fine with medication and diet changes but take these things seriously. There comes a point where, even if symptoms seem minor, if they persist you need to stop thinking 'I'll just wait a little longer and see if it goes away' and go to your doctor.

I have Crohn's disease for about 4 years now and since I have the strongest possible medication ( drugs + biological treatment), since the bio goes in by needle, they always take blood and test it for the IBD markers, so I feel like most of the people get checked regularly , but yeah, don't underestimate it! I had probably discovered my IBD by a strangeforming near my anus....

Hey, the ingredients of AG1 are backed by research, but that brand and its % contents has not been backed by research. It's like saying Benadyl 25 mg helps with allergies and assuming 0.25 mg also will. AG1 is kinda like those tea packets. Just a little leftover dusting of the good stuff.
