In India Cinematographers are underestimated , mostly they says film belongs to director . but mostly Indian movies are stupid only if i can found some quality in Indian films is because of good visuals and good visuals are there due to Cinematographer . but i also want to say there is no one person who can make a film its a team work of Director , Cinematographer , Art Directors , Actors and Editor and how can we forgot the writer who write the story for the film . This video is really good . good to see work of Indian cinematographer .

dont comment if you don't know what cinema is...and go improve your grammar

^^You could use a bit of punctuation lessons yourself. What he said is true. Also, if you disagree with Jaspreet, the way to go about it is to use a proper, logical counter-argument while being polite at the same time. Asking someone to shut up and questioning his knowledge without offering your own mastery on the subject is amusing.

We give enough importance to celebrities.. How many Hollywood movies have you watched for a cameraman.. Here u know pc, santhosh Sivan, nirav shaw, kathir, ratninavel, kv anand, natraj, velraj.... No country common man knows this much cinematographer
@aravindmgopal9696 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem is how you people see cinema. Its an art form like PC said. I agree with whatever Jaspreet said. But one thing made me angry. His view on Indian cinema. That's why I said that.

Sounds to me like the Indian Howard Hawks (camera wise). Enjoying your channel pretty much due to straight forward opinions and good information AND your encouragemant to look into film and present various people from film. Here in the West we barly get anything from Indian cinema but the same old action/love Bollywood standard. Salute and keep up the good work.

What do you think of the late Bobby Singh’s work? He seemed to be quite an up and commer. I worked with him when he was shooting in the Netherlands for the movie Queen. I’m not gonna pretend I know Indian cinema well, but his eye and how he was in life, especially to the younger camera crew members around him makes me think India lost one of the greats with his tragic death. Curious about your perspective on him and his work.

Awesome video essay as always. I sincerely hope that many of the great Indian movies on film can and will be preserved in time. I know Martin Scorsese's company is investing a lot in hunting down the best available elements (source material) of neglected non-American films - and restore them to what was originally intended (although what exactly that is, takes a lot of research, dedication and guesswork once the director and DP are gone, who probably had to deal with release prints that varied a lot and TV airings that ruined the look and feel). Anyway: I have seen a few parts of more recent Indian movies (from the time of film to digital transition) and I must confess that at first I didn't like the aesthetics, especially the extremely saturated colors and what looks like digital sharpening. BUT it's a different culture and colors (and what they mean) play a completely different role. The same applies (to a lesser extend) to Brazilian films: you see slums with walls painted in bright, saturated colors. Anyway: even with the old telecine footage from scratched prints: I can see that in many scenes the lighting and blocking are fantastic. Will definitely look deeper into Indian cinema. I'm sure there are a lot of true treasures. Thanks for another great video!

he did the lighting for that church scene in ok kanmani??? All due respect to the man but when i first saw that scene i was like why are there 2 sources for the sun on opposite sides?
@AK-cf6sj6 жыл бұрын
He tried to use those sources as mirages. As he did it in Agni natchathiram with Artificial ones. I guess. But, it all goes with mood, I guess. Maniratnam is also someone who loves sun.Along with some A.R.R touch, it worked well for me.
