Back in WW2 it was cruel to out Japanese people into US concentration camps but you cannot deny Japan was a country that had mastered espionage. Plus they were all Japanese. Well, from what I understood, most of his supporters were "taking him seriously, but not literally". Every Trump supporter I talked to during the election told me I was crazy, I was taking him too literally, and he wouldn't be able to accomplish most of the items on his platform. Basically, they all thought he was just saying that stuff to get elected, and so did many people who opposed him. But now, slowly, everyone (including those who voted for him) is realizing that we should have been taking him very literally after all, because he did indeed mean what he was saying.

First up, thank you for making such a detailed, informative video. This stuff id bringing home for me just how difficult it is to wade through all this information about the situation, even when striving to find reliable sources and observe them with a critical eye. Upon first watching this, I thought I had identified two inconsistencies/falsehoods: 1. You stated the ban would last for 90 days, but later said it would be for 120 days. 2. You said that no Americans had ever been killed by foreign nationals from any of the countries on the list, which is contradicted by the attack at Ohio State University by a Somali refugee. However, I rewatched the relevant sections and realised that the 90 days was in reference to the ban on legal and illegal immigrants, whereas the 120 days applied specifically to the refugee ban. Regarding the second point, I then went over the information regarding the Ohio incident and found that no individuals had actually been killed. My take-away from this is that, if this is how easy it is to misinterpret information from the more reliable sources, it's no wonder information gets so distorted so much when people are relying on less-than credible sources. Thank you again for doing what you're doing.

Most Americans claim to be Christian, but I would like to contest that. I'm an atheist, I'm not here to challenge your faith, but I emplore all American Christians (and everybody else for that matter) to have a closer look at Leviticus. Specifically this passage: "When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt." (Leviticus 19:33-34) This ban is not only unconstitutional and inhumane, it is fundamentally unchristian. Don't make the mistake of blindly accepting the atrocious actions of your newly elected head of state.

It's called 'Nujeen' and it tells the story of Nujeen Mustafa, a disabled kurdish girl from Syria who made the dangerous trip from Syria to Europe, in a Wheelchair! It's really an interesting book, and a heartwarming and inspiring story, and I encourage everyone to read it.

It's the robbing of security to entire communities, the cost and despair and focus away from a happy American life caused by terrorism that is the problem. Just trying to be informative here, every president drops hundreds of Executive orders. It's not just a "I don't want to deal with congress". There are guidelines or limits. You can do a google search on it if you are interested. Presidents sign usually around 200-300 (roughly) executive orders during their term.

Stephen Albright well thank you for being civil, but you're wrong. This ban is nothing but a mistake. It is only going to add fuel to the jihadist fire (I wouldn't be surprised if a 9/11 esque terror attack happens in the near future.) It's keeping not only the banned countries out but all refugees like the Burmese who desperately need to leave the country. It violates the Asylum laws both US and international. Also, see HawlyAly's comment above about how "120 days" actually means "a few more years" for people who have _already_ passed rigorous screening. Sure, I can! So, a few weeks ago boxes started appearing in the background of John's videos. Someone asked about it in a comment but he just pinned it and didn't answer the question of what was in them. Last week someone asked again and he said that it was no longer the main concern. After that, someone pointed out a small picture that was on the wall and with a few guesses we discovered it was a tuatara. With the help of John we found a forum that needed a password to access it. John had left a clue and through research and the help of other Nerdfighters in the comments we were able to access the forum. Now it seems like we have a new riddle every week to access something new in the forum. It's quite fun to figure it out even if it is a bit hard. Other Nerdfighers help a lot. John Faria I think it's a sign of privilege and security to be optimistic about it. It's possible it's all a business tactic, but the people he puts in charge, like Bannon for the NSC, have very real radical and dangerous stances. It threatens groups who were already vulnerable in this country. He's threatened my reproductive rights as a woman and threatened to put Muslims on a registry and he's not listening to the people when millions of them say "no, this is not what we want." I honestly do not know how to feel anymore. I try to understand how people of different views can come to different positions from me. While the threat of extremist Islamic terrorism is real, it is not the most significant issue in the grand scheme of things for the reasons that you stated. However, I try to understand how the way we poorly prioritize threats and the constant exposure to these incidents on the news could lead people to think it was a much bigger issue than it really. But the fact that a law has just been implemented where a child has to be detained based solely on the place he was born and there are seriously people out there who see this and think that it is a job well done, my sympathy starts to fade. Again, not all people who were in favor of this ban I think are truly aware of its effects, but to those who are... again, I just don't know how to feel. My only hope is that we can get past this dark time in human history. My heart goes out to all those affected by this. :'(

While I like this channel and think this video was generally well put together there were a few pieces of misinformation in it. While i think its safe to say this EO was poorly written and rolled out, I do think the Trump admin. was on the right path. Firstly, you say that people, such as professors, actors, activists, doctors and other high level personnel (with visas) from these countries won't be allowed into the country. That is false, there is a clause in the EO that states the Secretaries of State and Homeland security can waive the EO for individuals on a case-by-case basis. Secondly, you state that no foreign national from any of these countries has ever killed anyone in the US. Again, that is blatantly false. Either you didn't do your homework or you read that ridiculously manipulated photo of stats that Kim Kardashian posted on twitter and took it as factual. With a simple google search you can find the names of 20 individuals that moved from those countries to the US, that the US Dept. of Homeland Security stopped from plotting terror attacks on US soil. Additionally, I'll extend an olive branch and say that Tashfeen Malik, the female San Bernardino shooter, was born in Pakistan, moved to Saudi Arabia (where she was coerced to wage jihad) and thusly moved to the US. Both of those countries should without a doubt be added to the list.

Jack Inglis I see where you are coming from in terms of the EO being waived for individuals. We don't know how long that would take, but I think it's safe to say entry into the US for those "special" individuals would be quite a slow process with this clumsy admin. Additionally, I think everyone acknowledges that this EO is going to inconvenience way more people than potential terrorists it will stop. However, I would gladly take the option of having a few thousand pissed of migrants on our hand than another Ohio State attack or San Bernardino incident. Also, in regards to banning US citizens....no. No US citizens will be affected by this. This includes duel-citizenship holders from those countries. Furthermore, green card holders that were unfortunate enough to be overseas in those 7 countries while the EO was implemented will fall under the category of "case-by-case" admittance into the US upon their return. Lastly, while yes, you technically are correct on the matter of "no American has been killed by anyone from the banned countries" I would like to point you to the recent Ohio State attack where several people were injured by a Somali national who was inspired by ISIL. Also, if you wouldn't mind citing that 1 in 3.6 billion statistic, I'd appreciate that! Ultimately, this EO was just straight trash and needed more careful attention by the Trump Admin. I think at the end of the day, however, Trump is trying his hardest to not turn us into the the raging culture clash that is Europe.

Jack Inglis Okay, so I read the CATO study and while I kind of believe there may have been some bias by the author to make the problem seem as small as possible I think the overall study was credible and true. With that being said, I think most people don't have a problem with the individual refugees themselves. I know I acknowledge that they are in a terrible place right now, smack dab in the middle of a war zone that is. It's even worse when you find out that most victims of fundamentalist Islamic terror are muslims themselves - not Americans. What I'm trying to get at is it's not the Syrian refugees I'm worried about, it's the radicalized/fundamentalist ISIL combatants hiding amongst the refugees acting as wolves in sheep's clothing that I'm concerned about. I realize that 99% of Syrian refugees are good intentioned people that want to better their lives and their children's lives, but at the moment the Syrian refugees are our modern day Trojan Horse. If we let a thousand refugees in and one of them is in fact an ISIL soldier who commits an act of terror on US soil that claims American lives we must ask ourselves, "was it worth it?". Is it worth risking our own safety for these refugees. This is America, I know we like to pretend to be the world's parent and make everything better and put our nose into everything but we also need to put ourselves first. One of the reasons why Woodrow Wilson isn't regarded as a total flop of a president is because his stance on isolationism was so favorable. He believed in letting the world's nations settle their own arguments and to not get involved unless the US be directly provoked. Is this a time when we should let countries surrounding Syria (*cough* *cough* Saudi Arabia) take in the refugees? Personally I can't decide what's worse, turning them away altogether, or admitting them all willy nilly. At the end of the day, they aren't US citizens, they don't have a right to live on US soil but they should be treated with dignity and respect

Executive orders work a little differently than legitimate laws, but even for an executive order (an order, signed by the president, that generally lasts for the duration of their term) this one is exceptionally awful.

For this to happen without legal vetting is extremely abnormal and a big warning flag for danger. The executive branch of government (which includes the police, the military, the Customs and Border Patrol and various regulatory bodies as well as the President) are supposed to abide by and enforce the existing laws and may create directives about how they go about it. They are supposed to be limited by the Legislative branch (Congress) who can define what they can and can't do and the Judiciary branch (who can make rulings on the legality of the actions of the other two). However, federal courts in several states have now issued orders to suspend enforcement of the order and in a few places the CBP agents are refusing to acknowledge the court order or even let people who have been detained speak to a lawyer which is their legal right. That is why some people are calling this a constitutional crisis.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I'm off to watch refugee stories. I work with refugees at a small non-profit. I already know many of refugees as actual people -- men and women and children who in other circumstances would have been glad to live in peace in their home countries but are now fleeing terrorism, or government soldiers burning their villages, or similar terrible situations. Now they live in the US, learning the language, working at pretty unpleasant jobs, going to school, trying to make a new start. We're lucky to have them. I'm pretty sure America is worse again for this new policy.

In my opinion America's image around the world has never been worse than it is now. I may get a lot of hate from Trump supporters for saying this but since I'm a great believer in being allowed to express your own opinion I'm going to do it anyway. I used to think that America was great. Ideas like the 'American Dream' seemed like things that weren't entirely correct, but definitely not untrue. My image of America with its gun laws and educational system and so on was not perfect. But it was good. I thought it was better than just a decent country. I even considered maybe moving there myself someday, just because I thought that the country had so many positive aspects many of which, may I say, still exist today. However, my mind simply cannot comprehend how the majority of Americans could vote for someone like Trump. I'm not saying that what Trump says and believes is "wrong". Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even and maybe especially if I do not agree with it. But changing a country based on such ideas is an entirely different matter. America has changed from a country I once really liked into a country I now fear. Not in a good way as in having respect for Americans because of their power though. I sadly have no respect left for the majority of Americans. I genuinely fear the country America's become. It has turned into a country that, if this continues on, I never want to set foot into again. I know that many people do not agree with Trump nor have voted for him, but he still became president and sadly the outcome is what matters. The consequences don't just affect Americans. They affect the whole world and we too have to deal with them. Every country no matter if developed or undeveloped, we're all affected in some way or the other. I have not yet met a single person where I live who says that this effect is a positive one though. America has destroyed it's good image, in my opinion forever. Many people myself included fear what this once beautiful country has become and want absolutely nothing to do with it. Maybe someday when everyone is working to bring nations closer together and trying make the world a better place America will stand alone. In my opinion the future of the rest of the world looks quite gray because of Trump. But America's future looks more than gray. In my eyes it's pitch black. Just something to keep in mind.

my understanding is that executive orders are INTENDED to be used in an emergency. The problem is that last 8 years, the only way Obama could get anything done was by using the executive order. By my observation, anything and everything he was supposed to do as president, congress tried to stop him from doing regardless of whether or not it was his job and conservatives accused him of abusing it and threatened to take him to court. Greece does not have a declining economy because of refugees. Its economy has been struggling years before the refugee crisis. Contrary to Trump claims, crime rates in central europe are actually on an all-time low and economy is doing fine. There is no correlation between taking in refugees and sovereign debt. For example the Greek recession was caused by a number of factors (just to name a few): corruption, clientelism, tax evasion and also in order to rush into the European Monetary Union they had to develop their financial market -> people were encouraged even to take out loans to buy stocks but the stock bubble bursted...

So the Obama administration said that people from those 7 countries needed visas to come to America. This is probably a stupid question, but what's the difference between a visa and just a passport, isn't a passport a type of travel visa?

A passport is not a visa. A passport is issued by the country where you are a citizen. A visa is issued by the country you want to visit.

Mary Bach also, if I might add that to obtain a visa you have to go through at least a basic background check and, as is the case of most African and western Asian countries, a person must register biometric data and pass a health exam before a visa is issued.
