Great video. Hopefully one day the cards will be less garbled. Everytime I see cards on sale I always have to break out the manual just to see if they'll work with my camera 🤣

great info. I knew about 80% of it.. but I definitely learned something. What I DON'T know about is CF Express... do you have any info on that?

Great question. I don’t off hand, but consider it in the cue! More of my world has been with SD cards and SSD’s but CF Express definitely has a huge foot print and it’s not going away yet.

@@charlesn yeah, Im kind of in the same boat. The Z6II uses both, but I haven't made the switch. I don't really do video, so using a V30 SDXC is sufficient... but faster transfer speeds would be a nice perk. if you make it.. I'll watch!

8:58 In Sony tough card, Red 'G' refers to G-Master series of lenses, which are highest tier. I assume their Tough cards are same tier in memory cards class.

Do you have any experience with Sabrent SD cards? I am specifically looking for a card for my S5IIX to shoot 4K 60 video - as it seems I will have to go SSD on this camera. Thoughts?
@charlesn
@charlesn Жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried the Sabrent cards before, but any V90 SD card will do in order to film at the maximum internal record speeds for the S5iix. The SSD is only necessary if you want to film ProRes, or All-I.

HUGE thanks to you and respect for all information, Glad someone can make all stuff so clear. Additional Question: Example is Sony A7S3 has 1080P 240fps 8bit for only 100mbps, but why it requires V90 Card? Isnt V30 already capable? Why Sony list V60 is not enough for that mode. Can you explain as well the 10bit and 8bit differ for SD Cards? Thanks a lot. 🥺
@charlesn
@charlesn Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! SD cards don't care about 8 bit or 10 bit, just data rates (how fast data is reading or writing). As far as the Sony a7s3 - if it gives a 100 mpbs option in their menu, then you should be able to use a V30 card with no issues. The camera will stop when it can't write the card otherwise. Sony could play some tricks and force you to have a faster card, I don't know. They didn't do that to my RX100V, so hopefully they don't force you to have a faster card unnecessarily on the A7siii.

Can we assume that slower V30 card that is writing 200Mbps format can overheat and corrupt and V60 will be still colder due to higher capacity of write speed? I mean if its safe to use card close to its limits?
@charlesn
@charlesn 3 ай бұрын
I haven’t read anything about cards overheating due to the high speeds within their tolerances (V30 using 200 MBPS). I think it’s safe to use cards within their limits. The heat issue would be more related to the camera itself and how it is able to dissipate the heat effectively (Sony a7siii good vs ZV-E1…not so good) while operating and writing to the card via the UHS bus. The camera will typically shut down due to overheating scenarios before the UHS bus would have issues.

I have been testing my sandisk 256gb v30 cards .....and have not ran into any issues on my r6 mii. Did 4k 24fps 10bit for an hour and stopped the test since no issues and no overheating happened Did 4k 60fps 10bit for 25mins , same no issues. Only a temp indicator started to pop up. I stopped the test since i wont be shooting in less than 30mins increments in 4k 60. Heck i did 1080p 120 /180fps for 5 mins ea and ran into no issues either. Matter of fact i shot a whole day event using these settings and never ran into an issue using clog3 in both modes. Maybe its the IPB compression in my specific case? Idk Makes me wonder if i really do need to use my v60 or v90 cards I have.

I loved every moment of this video. No. I'm not crazy. But, I do want to understand what I need to get the maximum functionality out of my camera. I've never shot 4k before and was considering doing a few instructional videos using 4K. But since the cards are relatively expensive and the files are only going to get crushed by KZbin's compression, in the end, I may just decide to shoot in 1080p using cards I already own. Thanks much for this very well presented explanation.
@charlesn
@charlesn Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Kenneth! 1080p still looks great. You can experiment with KZbin and upload 4k and 1080p in private videos and see if you're satisfied with how the 1080p looks. Also, if you use Davinci Resolve you can easily upsample your 1080p footage to 4k for a fairly good bump in quality.

What is a good memory (GB) to have on a SD card?
@charlesn
@charlesn Ай бұрын
As much as you can afford, lol. Honestly though, having extra memory is highly recommended because we always end up using more memory than we intended. But…that being said, try to work backwards from what you think you’ll film (if video) and add a buffer. So podcasts are usually 90 minutes of filming so I’ll get a card that films at least 2 hours straight (with my S5iix). Hope this helps!
