Big clients know that, that's why they look for Ux design. Web designers have to align themselves and start thinking of themselves as people who grown business instead of creating buttons.

Don't worry about it. True business owners know the value of getting what they pay for. The people who buy these websites and make their own using something like Wix were never going to be your clients. The only way they would be is if someone like yourself educates them while pitching, but even then...

I love this, I had a bit of a taste of everything throughout my career, and at the start, I was discouraged because I studied to be a 3D animator and ended up in a sales job because I was simply not getting paid to be a 3D animator or to do the extensive hours at a peanut salary. At that time, I could get paid more to work an 8 - 5 job as a sales consultant without any education than I could with being a qualified 3D animator with work experience. But holy camoly! I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am right now for the place that it has led me to. I love figuring out problems, got into web design and development and then ended up starting my own business! Everything that I learned from being a sales consultant straight through to being an IT service coordinator has truly helped me develop solutions that help businesses grow instead of just having a fancy website that adds no value to a client's business. People always want to add fancy, none essential things to their site, which is okay, but the question is. Does it add value, or does it just look pretty?

Thanks for sharing ☺️. In my opinion it's, Websites vs Web Applications. Costly could also means custom branding, good server, scalability, site security, integrations, or some custom functionality. A business could start cheap but they will soon realise cheap is not what differentiate them from their competitors and at some point they need to upgrade.

I know you asked this 2 years ago but for anyone stumbling on this video now. Its not about any specific features or seo or whatever. It’s about solving the clients problems. For example a business it’s get a ton of silly questions in their email or over the phone, on solution could be to put a FAQ section on the contact page. Or if a plumber wants to spend less time answering the phone and booking jobs you could make a fancy booking system that automatically adds an entry to the plumbers google calendar. So you are selling a solution instead of a website

I'm a new web designer, started my business in January, and what I care about is what my design can provide for a business. Great and much needed perspective. I’d like to add that at $10k good design is expected and therefore not a priority item of discussion. Business objectives are the priority like he says. At this price point client will only notice design when it’s bad, but rarely will they applaud your great typography, use of white space and careful use of clever interactions. Those things are expected just like in their $100k limited edition automobile parked upfront. The client is trying to solve a $1M problem and this 10k website is an integral part of the overall strategy, as it takes care of the two lists mentioned here on the board.

idk if I agree with that. From what I've seen, there are many websites that are 10k plus that look "ugly" that have been built in the last ~5 years. There probably are clients that expect that to be a given, but I wouldn't generalize that.

I think in the beginning be open to seeing where you get the best results. One person's best niche might not work well for someone else. After a while though you will see areas where you tend to do really well - if you wish then you can niche down and get even better at helping those types of clients. Start general > get experience > see what works > double down.

Very quick list (Ill try make a full video): - more new sales - better sales (more of the customers they want) - more frequent sales (more often people buy who already know them) - boost their credibility (easier to sell) - boost their authority (they are experts at the best at what they do) - show a lot of social proof (they are well liked and respected) - easier systems (selling, inquires, support, information, etc) - better messaging - building brand Just a couple - these are all overview too, for each biz it will be way more specific and personal.

Is it possible to charge a business owner who you are solving multiple problems (10k range) but you are using softwares like Word Press and Wix to create the website for clients? Or for the 10k range, it has to be a different software with coding included?

I would to avoid Wix with those types of prices - since it is marketed to business owners as a "do it yourself" solution. (So it makes you look unprofessional). Wordpress though - ya 100% that is fine, and there would be millions of top websites built on the wordpress platform.

You need to show you think this way - both in how you approach and sell to clients but also in how you present your past work. If all you talk about it design don't expect biz owners to see much of the purpose behind it - you need to focus on what your websites helped with on the biz side.

Cheap sites are often templates but there is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that is all they do so they create no results. Bigger (10k plus) sites can use templates too but the difference is they then put effort into making sure the content/strategy/messaging/sales is on point. I have used templates sites up to 20k and the clients had no issues with it (and knew this was the case).

I do however have a question that's burning me since a while now. How do you find and identify those clients who are looking for more than just a good looking website, who want an effective sales tool and are willing to invest a higher price into a higher value online sales and marketing tool? Where would we have to look for this type of client?

First make sure you are thinking this way yourself. This helps you stand out and business owners will spot you have this mindset very fast. Use communication (fb posts, emails, phone calls, conversations) that SHOW you think and work this way. Second go where others have already succeeded. Look for good niches and industries and specific problems where other people have paid well in the past. Third - once you do the first two points you will develop your own ability to spot areas with high potential and to have the right message to attract suitable people to you. Hope that helps.

Hard to answer but 1-3 weeks to complete 3-10k projects. You get a lot faster with experience. Also you can do more than one project at once and create other sources of income like SEO etc.

If you can help a business make money from the website, they'll pay you. You just need to communicate how each part of the site will bring in more revenue. It's an investment for businesses. For example, models want attention(money/sales/revenue). If you're a clothes designer(website designer) and you sell cool clothes for £100 to these models, the price is cheap because all they ask for is cool clothes. However if you can focus on what they want, attention, and explain how you use color psychology to achieve an effect from outsiders that makes you an attention magnet, you could sell that for £1000+. The value of a site is determined by your explanation and understanding of the businesses needs and how you will achieve them. If you can explain the ROI, you can charge higher.
