Love this Rob, I started web design as a side business this year, much later in life as I feel stuck in a rut with my current career. I have a few clients now and have a portfolio, now I need to start charging a little more. This is very inspirational. I am keen to learn how to sell and demonstrate the value of a business website. I think I understand the principles but am struggling to articulate that and dont yet have the confident to ask more than a few hundred dollars for a website. I could happily watch long-form content videos from you, 30 mins or more, because you are one of the few I have seen that explains things so well and actually makes the subject matter make sense. Thanks for this and I am looking forward to learning more from you!

Thanks, Ill try share as much as I can to help. It is good to know you will watch more so if I got more to share I will be sure to add it in. To be honest, at the moment I am still just getting used to being on camera and making these videos. Hopefully, over the year I get better and make them more fun/interesting to watch.

Yaaasss, another video. 😊 As usual, this one is packed with useful information, like what kind of clients you should take on when you're only starting with web design, how to build credibility and trust to charge future clients, and a simple trick, and the most common, on building one's portfolio. I'm not in the web design business (throw me bricks for having no purpose for coming here, come at me) but, as expected, I've picked up a principle that I think can be applied anywhere: And that is, Choosing only projects that you have the skill for! Screw the fake it 'till you make it guys. If you learn at the expense of the clients, you're in for a big trouble -- at least, that's what I heard somewhere. (Admit it, it makes sense.) Anyway, I hope next video Rob will show us how he picks the clients that he knows he can work with and can deliver his services to, like how can you tell this is a client who wants sales-oriented website from a client who only wants a fancy website. Keep doing what you're doing, Rob. 😂

All makes sense so far, excited to give it a go. The strategy seems unique. Only thing is I am shitting myself about selling to other people! I am not a natural salesman by any means!!! I'm quite introverted, the web design side of things is no problem but the sales side worries me!

Hello. What do you mean by results based websites? What websites are that? Can you give an example of that sites? Thank you.
@FoxWebSchool
@FoxWebSchool 6 жыл бұрын
A website where people pay for what the website does (more sales or customers for example) rather than how unique or advanced the website itself (the code or design) is. Another way to think of it is as a "sales machine" - a website that brings in a lot more dollars for the people who you build them for.

Hey Rob, so glad I found your channel! What you are doing is perfectly in line with what I'm hoping to be able to do in the near future. One question I have been asking myself for some time is why would a company agree to spend more money on a website just because they sell expensive services? What I mean to say is that if you sold a site for 2000$ to a smaller business, why would they pay more for basically the same easy done web project. I hope I'm making sense... Certainly, they are wise business people who understand that a website can bring in sales, but at the same time, no one likes to spend more money than needed. You said you are not a great designer and not a great developer either (that's me too!), so basically you are gonna be building sites that thousands of people can also build. How to differentiate yourself and convince that you are better than me or anyone else here at producing results? Understand I'm not challenging you, I'm kinda asking myself the same question... Anyway, I'm sure you will answer a lot of similar questions and clarify your strategy as weeks unfold. Really looking forward to the next videos. Thanks a lot!!!

Thanks for this, I'm really looking forward to following the coming weeks. My business will probably be targeting small businesses to begin with, offering a top quality site but not offering advanced functionality. What would you say to such clients if they ask why I could offer them any more than doing it themselves on Wix?
@FoxWebSchool
@FoxWebSchool 6 жыл бұрын
I got a good video about Wix on my channel but my main point would be that Wix is only going to give their customer basic information - a website built by me is going to help sell. So if they want sales I can help, if they just want to list basic company info and nothing else - they can use Wix (or whatever) themselves.
@tarasteele6556
@tarasteele6556 6 жыл бұрын
@@FoxWebSchool Thanks Rob, I've just watched the video, which was very helpful. I completely get what you're saying on there - but what if you were to make them a website on Wix, as opposed to them doing it themselves? In theory, could it be as effective to them as you making them a Wordpress site, since you'd be utilising your knowledge of what works, and implementing SEO etc? I get that there might be a perception issue, that it's not a professional solution etc, but I'm just trying to understand what would make a website built by someone who knows a lot about all this stuff - like you - better on Wordpress than Wix. I want to be able to give potential clients a really good answer when they ask this question. Thank you!

Hey Rob! Great series, really helpful! Just a doubt, since you are planning to do a few sites for free, how do you plan to host those websites? Are you going to pay for the hosting from your pocket?
@FoxWebSchool
@FoxWebSchool 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sanika - so I made this mistake when I first started in 2016. I was hosting the client's sites for them - bad move. Even if you do a free site always get the client to register and pay for the domain/hosting. With bigger clients later you can do maintenance plans if you want but for your first few clients it can get very messy to host them yourself.

@@FoxWebSchool Well, I gathered from vid 1 that you were starting a new biz parallel to the existing, successful biz so that you could walk ppl through the process. But in this vid you said you "shutdown" your other biz. Hence my confusion - why would someone choose to shutdown a profitable biz and force themselves to start over again?

mab1701 first business is shut down. Any ongoing work with that I’ll give to someone else and take a small share. @FoxWebSchool
@FoxWebSchool 6 жыл бұрын
Its one way to do it. I will start showing my actual clients and that side of it next week. In the meantime - the bigger the results you can build (so either more new value, or fixing old problems, or both) the more your services are worth. So when looking for example portfolio clients you want to keep that in mind - the better the results, the more easier it will be to sell future projects. But you still need to know how to sell also - I will cover that soon also.
