In this video I explain why Dominicans do not identify as Black. It is a matter of understanding our Ethnic Origins and Tri Racial heritage. This video is not about slandering other Ethnic group's but to have the global community know about our Multiculturalism and evolution in the Spanish speaking Caribbean. The Scientific explanation Dominicans make up of the Native, European and African. This mixture gave rise to a new Hybrid population; the Dominican people. Blow is an article to help those understand our Tri Racial background. www.researchgate.net/publication/319646249_Taino_and_African_maternal_heritage_in_the_Greater_Antilles

@JC you can't go soly phenotypes because Dominicans are typically Admixed. That's like me trying to look at an Olmec and say they were African when in fact Olmecs were native American. Haitains have far more African ancestry then Dominicans. Which would reflect from Dominican to Dominican. Depending on the ratio some Dominicans will have more European than African. But regardless we are still pre dominantly tri racial which reflects our idiosyncratic identity and culture. Whereas Haitians are pure Africans with minimal European ancestry. We are a hybrid group that emerged on the island due to the European and African Admixing with the native population. Any Dominican that took test with 23andme their ancestry timeline will always show the native on bottom followed by European and African or vice versa. The point is Dominicans are not pure Africans.

@JC using phenotypes is a pseudo argument. All Dominicans do not look typically "African". Where is are source where it can be verified based on grounded Science? Dominicans we are an Admixed population. We have better methods today to be able determine our ethnic ancestry. This why I used an example with the Olmecs. Phenotypically they may appear to look "African" based on looks but in reality and through dna they are Native American. Broad nose and thick lips were not soly exclusive to West Africans. We know we are a heterogeneous ethnic group. There are many examples to show how our culture is idiosyncratic reflecting our Native, European and African fusions. Dna debunks that notion. Lookership is not a good way to determine someone's ethic identity. Some Dominicans may not know better but a good majority know they come from a diverse ethnic group.

Confederation of the Antilles Haitians are not far african than Dominicans what are you talking about? Haiti slave trade didn’t do in Africa. The Dominicans republic have more african bloodline than Haitians dude. When the Spaniard kill almost lol the tainos they bring a lot of slave from africa to the dr. Not Haiti the French didn’t bring much african in Haiti because most haiti slave trade did in America they were shipping Native American to the island of Haiti. And also Dessaline had an army that had call indigenous people of the island and plus before Christopher Columbus arrive to the island a lot of tainos run to Haiti side and go hide in the mountains and still these days they are living in Haiti in the mountains.haitians are 5% mix african with other ancestors and 90% are indigenous of the island. With african decent . Even the tainos were black and dark and brown they were also african decent. Because when Christopher Columbus was coming to the island he said on his book that he saw 3 different tribes of Africans was already on that island and some was going back to Africa. Learn the history before talking about the Haitians when you know nothing about us we ain’t african. We are decent from african which mean we have African ancestors . Even Africa unions say Haitians ain’t african they have different culture which mean we have taino culture and mix with african culture from the Congo and west Africa from the kingdom which is now Benin.haiti have more taino culture than any other Caribbean the food the places in Haiti the cities and also our language and the name of the country and also the flag of the country is all tainos names and also the blue in the flag of Haiti stand for tainos and the black who fought for the country.

@@carlosmilord2931 ok you sound entirely like an Abo and you have your information mixed up. Haitians are 98.2% African and 1.8% European. It is thought documented that the former French colony Saint Domingue had more imported African slaves than Santo Domingo. Haitians are a homogeneous ethnic group ok. Dominicans are a heterogeneous ethnic group. Haitains do not have native ancestry. The native component is only found in the Dominican Republic. Where are you getting your source's from? Point me to some references.

The problem in my opinion is how the conversation is approached. It is very hard to approach this topic if we use the same extreme rhetoric, used by other groups and some time's our own. Social media is not a great place for this right now. Too much wokeness is going around. This gets people emotionally invested. And when fire goes off its hard to get it to stop. To correct this we have to focus on teaching our own community especially the young one's about their origins and history. Because at the end of the day we can only be accountable for our own actions. We have to lead by example.

True indeed, especially to individuals or groups that know nothing about our unique demographic. Even our own can show a little ignorance but we have to educate them so that this does not continue. Identity politics in America doesn't help either as it causes a lot of divide. Not to mention the current political climate.

Nitiao in my opinion we should deter from using references of color. It is much more easier to use terms like, Cubano, Kiskeyano, Boricua, etc. This brings us closer to our people and culture and also makes us distinctive as an ethnic group. We come in all shades and this reflects our Demographic. People need to be aware of that.

The issue is not just low thinking. In the U.S. there is also the issue of assimilation and revisionism. The idea that Dominican identity should be viewed upon through North American politics and not to mention passive aggression on the social and economic problem. So more than ever there's a need in reminding why the Dominican identity is distinctive.

Dominicans are an Admixed population. This why we are classified as a heterogeneous ethnic group not homogeneous. This why people need to be encouraged to learn about dna as it relates to demographic of Kiskeyanos. Ethnically we are a representation of an idiosyncrasy of the Native, European and African. Which makes us an hybrid group on the Island. For this reason we do not identify as Black or African descended because we are considerably mixed. Linguistically we are Spanish speaking but approach our identity with a unique evolution that reflects our admixuture. Read up on dna studies on Dominicans.

@Rolls Royce ah okay then. I’m Ethiopian so. We have experience from our neighbor (Somalia) having its people saying that they are not black because they are in the Arab league. People do come from different cultures and you cannot Defy an entire country by a race.

@@giraffelord750 ok you do know that is not the same right? When Dominicans say they aren't black is because they aren't. We are an Admixed ethnic group. We emerged as a new hybrid group (mixing of the Native, European and African). I have to keep stressing this. People get caught up with the colorist argument and fail to realize not all groups are the same. Terms of black vs white is unscientific. We have to break away from those concepts. It truly prevents people from seeing the diversity from other ethnic groups.

@@giraffelord750 again on the island of Hispaniola it's divided by two nation's on that island that have entirely different demographic origins as stated by genetic studies. There is so much confusion in this vid and comments... Dominicans are black... This confusion is due to language. What your considering as "Black" is African. That is inaccurate. You make the distinction between Black, White, & Native... Natives, or indigenous peoples, are Black. Point blank simple. The distinction between Black and Natives doesn't exist.
@AntilleanFederation
@AntilleanFederation 3 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. Dominicans are a diverse ethnic group. We are a heterogeneous group, you do know there is a such thing called Haplogroups right?🤣 Black used as an ethnic identifier is a North American phenomenon and mainly applies to AA. Defining ethnic based on color is a social construct. Skin color is a product of human evolution 🤣. There is a distinction between Sun Saharan African, Native American groups, Asian and also European. Sub Saharan Africans and Native Americans are not the same demographically, culturally nor linguistically. Are you an abo? Sounds like you don't have a grasp for science. 🤔
