Watching your dogs move next to you when they get uncomfortable is the most revealing thing about your relationship with your dogs, and how they trust and respect you. Thanks for the video, the information you shared while everything happens is in real time, no edits, is so valuable.

I’ll say I do not know how to do the editing stuff so everything has to be one take. Plus one take is real, I want everyone to see real life and not me stitch together only the good stuff. Want to show everything the same way you see it on your walks. Everything is not perfect and I have to tell my dogs to do something a few more times.

As you walk, your messages are so focused on the real well being of the dogs and its not about 'training'... Dogs are sentient beings...they need real understanding from a stable human and that is what you embody..❤

I have been doing this all the time on our walk without knowing it…. Good that you put it in perspective

THIS WORKS watched yesterday evening, gave it a go this afternoon. Had been stuck in most of the day due to building work being done in house so my young malinois only had short breaks outside during day, and a short walk in the evening (same yesterday but not usual for her). Went out for walk where there were rabbits, squirrels and deer understandably she was popping about (on a longish lead and harness). Got the gist of doing what was explained here and it changed everything for the better - it's a subtle difference in dealing with the situation but profound results -communicating not correcting- -found what I've been looking for- -long loose leash walking WITH distractions- she sometimes stood focused on a rabbit etc but not once got to the stage that she 'went for it' This channel and content is AWESOME

Lovely walk. Lovely talk. Yes, my walks with my dogs used to be all observation and acute vigilance to my surroundings! I developed the ability to spot a potential problem way before the dogs would notice and take action accordingly... Thanks for putting in words which i could not have articulated as well as you do...

Great idea. Research our fears. And then do some exposure therapy.

I watch for every little thing to see how my dogs are. After time you don’t need to really pay attention because the signs will be obvious. The camera itself has a gimbal on it so it looks pretty good. A lot better than I even thought it was going to be. It’s the dji pocket 3. I’m pretty happy with it so far. It’s small and takes a good video

Does this apply for a puppy that pulls on a leash too?

Hi Mark! Your videos have helped me so much with improving my dog's reactivity. He no longer reacts to people, other dogs, trucks and cars or I am able to catch it early enough to temper the reaction. The issue I still have is my dog's reaction to squirrels. He goes crazy, starts screaming and lunging. He is fine with birds now to the point I can leave him alone with my chickens. And horses he is fine. But squirrels he turns into a demon. How do I teach him to be calm around squirrels?

I’ll have to talk about this while going somewhere I see tons of squirrels. My Dalmatian goes wild for them as well, she’s much better today not trying to take off at them anymore but she still gets to looking.

I use equipment from a company called non stop dog wear. I use there harness and leash and the two way leash to connect the dogs. I have a collar just for fashion at the end of the day and to have a do not pet patch that makes more people want to pet so it doesn’t really work. The more calm your dogs are everyone wants to touch them even without asking. I have a belt I use a cheap one to connect the leash to so I don’t have to hold it. I went overboard on my equipment because I’m working to get my dogs to get into canicross. Dogs pulling me while I’m running so I wanted to get the best pulling harness I could to make sure the dogs are not limited with full range of motion in there movements

I have fou d out w my golden. The trainer that he was sent to b4 I got him.. the trainer let him his dog beat up my golden. Because the trainer dogs did not like teddy. So how do I address that? He is now dog aggressive

Yup no way could I walk past that dog like you did walking both of mine Unless they’re on a prong☹️ I do not like using it but I have no idea how to be able to walk both of them near other dogs My female reacts then the male goes oh what’s up Boom

Does either of them turn and redirect at the other. I could be a real quick nip or just a slight bark. Almost like it’s alerting the other?

Baby steps? A suggestion..starting short mindful walks in a location or at a time there are possibly less distractions and practicing yourself to relax first? As long as you are able to find ways to create a relaxed mindset that works for you, perhaps it can lead you to a better walks with your two dogs... In a calm state, you maybe able to distract your female before she sends out signals to the male to react...

You need 100 pct solid obedience before you walk your dogs around other dogs. With the obedience, comes respect. DO NOT give your dogs anything for free. They MUST earn everything. Food, water, freedom, toys, play, EVERYTHING! Your statement about not wanting to use prong collars is also revealing. A prong collar is a tool. They help you to communicate with your dog. My suggestion... Get help from a good trainer; one who uses both positive and negative reinforcement and training.

@@TheDemockery I’ve done all those things. There are many many times these dogs are incredible. BUT the one thing has always been other dogs no matter what. They’ve been well socialized, sniff time exercise all of it. I use rewards but not all the time. I know the prong is a tool I guess to me it means it’s the tool they’re responding to and not me. That’s what bothers me most. When my male was a puppy he had a trainer, when I called her to ask for help as he was dropping me to the ground while wearing a harness, her response was.. he’s just trying you . No help! He was ecollar trained at 10 months(not happy with how they did it, the girls just kept calling him dramatic and it made him more reactive so I only use the ecollar when we are off in the woods never for corrrction)

@@earthrooster1969 we do many walks with no distractions or little ones, been doing this for years now. It’s always been the site of other dogs. My male is def better(as a puppy it was bad he ran towards all dogs) he’s almost 4, the female gets whinny and stirred up wants to go visit with the dogs. I feel as though I’ve done baby steps for so long.

I do the same depending on the need. I have dogs at home I need to get on alert to keep people and especially dogs away. But those dogs do not go in public that are at home working.
