My father found out he was pre-diabetic around 2020/2021. He actually managed to reverse the effects and is no longer pre-diabetic. He lost a ton of weight. He went from around 90kg to 72kg. He did that by being super strict with his diet and exercising 6 to 7 days a week. His weight went up again to 80kg, but it has stayed there for over a year now. I'm super proud of his results. He's 64 at the moment.

Exposure to excessive amounts of sugar will cause insulin resistance, pancreatic insulin production failure, and other conditions. Having devloped these diseases but being able to still manage your sugar is essentially prediabetes.@@TheHippyHoppyHippo

My father was a type 1 diabetic. He had it since he was 16, got it from my grandfather. Since type 1 is usually genetic. I feel so bad for him. The amount of diabetic episodes he had, all the pain he went through, and to have his health crumble so fast the last few years especially. He just passed away this Halloween. First my mother died on Christmas when I was 3 in 2003, and now my father dies on Halloween. At this rate I'll have no Holidays left. I miss him so much man. It kills me every day when I see anything that reminds me of him, including this video and the topic of diabetes. Or when I hear a Don Henley or Led Zeppelin or Billy Joel song, or when I watch any movies from his time. I wish I could have him alive for just one more day, to hug him like he's never been hugged before in his 60 years, and tell him just how much I freaking love him. Man I'm crying typing this, I miss him so freaking much. And I regret so bad how I treated him the last month of his life. I miss you dad. I'm sorry for all the people that took advantage of you in your life. I'm sorry I didn't show you the love you deserved while you were alive. I'm such a jerk. I'm glad though that you no longer have to deal with this disease, or your gastroparesis, or your eye problems, or all the anxiety and all the abuse and pain you've felt all your life, I'm happy you can rest now father. You earned it man. It's my turn to carry the pain, and I'll do everything I can to show you I love you! Please rest dad, I miss you! He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive and to fight and to dream When he looks in my eyes, I hope he can see that My dad's a hero to me! I am a type 1 diabetic too and I appreciate all the tech that is with us now to combat this disease especially CGM's. I lost my father on Christmas day and miss him more than words can ever describe but he along with myself are believers in the Lord above and I find peace knowing he is in good hands and I think of him constantly which brings a smile most of the time and when I do shed a tear it usually is quickly replaced by a smile in due time. I hope you find peace like I have my friend. Sounds like your dad was a great human being.

Soren, I can “partially” understand your pain. I lost my mum at a very early age too. My Dad will soon be at an end but this is the natural cycle of life, think of the good times and it sounds like your Dad, like mine, was a gentleman and a good father! Best wishes my friend.

I'm so sorry for your loss my friend, my step father whom I consider my father provided me and our family with a wonderful home and gave it his all to be a good dad, worked hard all his life, served in the military and took me in as though I were his own son, he was diagnosed with type 1 about 2 years ago and it's progressively gotten worse, the disease is shredding him to pieces and now he is a shell of a person, won't eat, bed bound and now in hospice care, we are all doing what we can to ease his transition into his final slumber and I hope it is soon, so his fight will be over but at the same time I don't want him to go, but just tonight I realized he is already gone, his mind is lost from lack of food, nutrients, loss of his own father, stress, depression, it tears me apart to see him this way and part of my mind is denying any of this is real as a means of coping and self preservation. Just today I told my friend, "I feel like someone will pull back the curtains and say it was all an act, none of it was real.." I'm going to lose my step dad soon and it's just so sad.. but I know many have come and gone throughout human history and the human mind has faced many tragedies and still endured, I am glad for those of us who are still here i.e. friends and family and the life that is still contained within them. My step dad is pretty young too only 57 but this disease is accelerating his demise. My heart goes out to anyone struggling with losing or have lost any loved ones, this life is hard, impossible at times..

I used to be prediabetic. I've cut back drastically on sugars and have managed to reverse it, for now. I do have a few symptoms of nerve issues in my limbs, but they are mild and rare.

It's funny that the narrator says that the higher insulin levels you have the higher risk of vascular disease you have and yet the accepted treatment for diabetes is injecting even higher levels of insulin than your pancreas can create. Pure madness.

I am type 2 diabetic and refused insulin and cut down my carbohydrates instead. I believe overdosing on insulin is the major cause of diabetic disorders in people.

I think there are a lot of people that disregard the potential mental and emotional dysfunctions that can cause eating disorders, which keeps people trapped in a vicious cycle that perpetuates Type-2. I was there. at 255 lbs, my blood sugar hit 864, and I ended up in the hospital. I was Type 2 for 6 or 7 years. I focused on low carb, OMAD, periods of intermittent fasting. I started to deal with my emotional eating [such a succinct way to sum up the last year of my life]. As of last April, my Type-2 was officially removed from my chart by my PCP. I'm down to 175ish. And I'm a lazy B@5t@RD. So if *I* can do it, *I KNOW* you can ^^. [to clarify, I started making these changes about two weeks short of a year ago.]

That's amazing! Thanks for sharing. This helped me remind. I'm working on controlling my calotic intake and activity levels. Been struggling with compulsive eating since childhood. Though I have been lucky so far, I hope to prevent pre-diabetes from ever developing.

@@naraferalina2308 , I wish you the best in your endeavor to maintain your health!! The mental/emotional aspects of our lives have a HUGE impact on our overall health. Stress is a big factor, some may lose excessive weight others may gain excessive weight. But we also can't deny genetic elements which can lead to chemical imbalances causing some people to process nutrients differently. It's not to disregard personal choices but we can't deny that these elements can have a negative impact upon our choices. I know that my own health suffered horribly, I gained so much weight without even realizing how bad my health was in the 4 yrs I was taking care of my beloved Mother in the last years of her life.... I took her to all of he weekly treatments, all of the doctor apts/bad news here and there, in/out of the hospital and nursing facility for rehabilitative services and then when at home, the "accidents" to clean up in the bed, the floor, the constant moaning and cries of pain, being up with her in the middle of the night to just sit with her and rub her back and try to comfort her amidst her "spitting-up" episodes because 75% of her stomach was in her chest cavity.... The devices/equipment she had to use and 2 months before I lost her, I had to call an ambulance at 3am to come get me! She actually called me around 10 that morning to tell me she was being discharged from the hospital and I had to tell her I was in the same hospital in the emergency department.... Anyway, I've been trying to come back from the "grave" as I continue to deal with what's left behind. Much of it has been being on medication for my heart etc., I quit caffeine immediately. I drink just juice and water and I cut out a lot of the cooking of fatty foods, most food I now bake along with incorporating more fruit/veges. I haven't been to a FF restaurant in almost a year to which my waist line and wallet appreciate. Caloric intake and expenditure is key but we have to maintain protein levels as well so that your body doesn't begin to consume your muscle tissue! Idk how much weight I've lost but I know it's a lot because I not only can see the difference but my clothes fit better etc. My initial bloodwork everything was in the RED, a year later, now all of my stats are in GREEN. My cholesterol was over 200, now it's around 130. The other important factor IS getting some aerobic/anaerobic exercise too! Just walking 20-30min per day helps with those who can't do much to start. For others some walking for a warm-up and then doing some weight lifting is an even better benefit.

I think of Type II Diabetes as a condition, instead of a disease. You can greatly improve it, or eliminate it through diet and exercise.

Reversal of Type II is rare. You can manage the condition with a low-carb diet and exercise and maybe supplementation, but most of the time as soon as you eat something that spikes your insulin, the cellular resistance returns in minutes. Even if your blood glucose has been trending "normal" for months or years. Think management, not cure. It works. Do NOT take statins whatever you do.

They never said what causes diabetes in the first place - refined sugar specifically, and processed foods in general. there is no medicine that can counteract those poisons. just get rid of the processed food. easier said than done, but it is possible. and it is the only way to reverse diabetes.

These blanket statements trying to make Sugar/carbs/processed foods the root of all evil is absolutely false, and only proves that your primary source of info on this subject are from other misinformed youtubers/ticktokers. If you've ever read actual scientific and medical literature, and not cherry pick data, you will find that development of Type 2 Diabetes is a lot more complex and depends on various other factors. While I can't explain the entire set of literature in just one comment, I'll make the following points: While genetics can also be a factor, Obesity is actually the primary factor in developing Type 2 Diabetes. High levels of Free Fatty Acids highly contribute to insulin resistance. Other factors that increase insulin resistance is lack of physical activity, because the more active you are, the more insulin sensitive you become. It just happens that those who tend to be on the obese side of the spectrum are likely getting that way because they're over-eating calorically dense foods, which Includes (but are not exclusive to) excess of processed foods which also tend to be high in sugars and FATS (people seem to forget the high amounts of fats in those types of foods, but blame everything on carbs). Additionally, these individuals tend to be less active. Add all that together for the long term and you get higher risk of Type2. Inversely, as they lose weight and increase activity, you'll find that many can reverse Type2. It just happens that for many, one of the easier ways to lower caloric intake is to cut down on the carbs/sugars/processed foods. Thus, there is a misconception that those types of foods causes type2, and by cutting them out, it can reverse it. It's basically misunderstanding the association, and many of these youtube "doctors" are regurgitating bad info. There's more to this, but that's the basics. And here's some additional logic for you. There are MANY Athletes, and other active individuals, that consume a high amount of carbs/sugars to fuel their activity. You'll find that the statistics for them to develope Type2 are a tiny fraction compared to those on the opposite side of the spectrum. And in those cases, where active, thin, individuals developed Type2, it has more to do with genetics, and other factors that require professional medical diagnosis. My resource for information is from Bio-Chemistry, physiology (learning how the body actually works) and reading scientific literature from unbiased and reputable sources (National Institute of Health being one of them). Not relying on youtubers.

@@quickcube2834uh you’re right, please focus on high fructose corn syrup and get as much into your system as you can and often. Also binge as much tv as you can. Only eat food that has vegetable oil, especially a sugary deep fried donut. 😊

For me personal i ate 5 times as much fructose this year compared two the last 3 years and dispite of this i have now an avarage blood fasting sugar of 80 while back then i had 95

so.. as long I eat less sugary food or food that easily transforms into sugar (cake, pancake, bread, pizza, pasta, rice, pudding, noodles, pastry, cookie, crackers, biscuits, french fries, corn, kids cereal etc.) to prevent building up my insulin resistance I'll be fine right

Yup. Relinquish those processed sugary foods from your diet. Don't consume any candy, soda, syrup, cookie, chocolate, juice, ice cream, alcohol, cake, pastries, etc for rest of your life. also do some exercise at daily basis. Embrace vegan, carnivore, keto, or whatever healthy balanced diet that you like. Just don't eat processed sugary foods.

​Never do diet! It is like kiļlļing your self for nothing. Also the body needs sugar so you can not quit it entirely Edit: do not drink a lot of green tea, it is bad too. It can be reversed lowering the sugar and carbohydrates, switching to ketogenic diet or carnivore diet, along with intermittent fasting.

@@Acts-1322 It's very little to do with 'lifestyle choices' - this is a myth perpetuated by those who believe in 'free will' (which usually derives from an imagined god writing in 3000 year-old scribblings from a time when humans knew almost nothing). This latter belief simplifies it for those who find complex etiology too much to understand or to wrestle with morally. It's also a good excuse to punish those who have this condition to make them feel better about themselves by feeling superior.

I am a 67 year old power lifter I don't have diabetics and I also don't have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, I also have healthy liver and kidneys and heart. I don't eat sugar, I use stevia and I only eat fresh healthy food rich in collagen. Sugar attaches to proteins in the bloodstream and produces harmful free radicals that can be particularly damaging to collagen, and premature aging of the skin. As an athlete I don't drink protein that's full of sugar and I don't use steroids. My opinion Collagen is important for your skin and strong and healthy bones that is not steroid. In the Netherlands I see people eating a lot of sugar and also children I believe too much sugar can lead to diabetes.

Re minute 3…. I thought muscles have a one way street with glucose. They can store it, but only release to be burned locally. It’s a bit different than the liver,in that the live can release glucose to the broader body via the bloodstream. Just a nuance. Anyone?

Diabetes is the root of all diseases. It needs control for the early ages. It is also a chronic disease which slows everything after a certain of years. It mainly happens when there is excess glucose in blood or urine. Our body cannot carry limited amount of glucose thus, it spreads all over. If we maintain a regular balanced and healthy diet chart hope we will be overcome through this situation. We inject insulin for decreasing glucose in our body. Pancreas produces 2 hormones: insulin and glucagon. Glucagon helps to increase glucose level. So, if both of these hormone is working properly everything is fine. If not, either problem in insulin or in pancreas

I would say that daily regular exercise is the key to keeping healthy. As Jack LaLanne, the Godfather of Fitness always taught "Exercise gives you a "high" and makes you feel "good" and that decreases the hormones craving food to "fill up that empty feeling". A Psychiatrist never made the connection, but Jack did and so he knew exercise was better than a pill.

I lost patience as soon as she said that muscle tissue can release glucose into the bloodstream: completely wrong: glucose cannot be released from muscle tissue, because there is no glucose 6 phosphatase in muscle tissue.

My mother has type2 diabetes and suddenly we found that she is at 400, the doc gave insulin but somehow it affected her brain.. within a week she started forgetting a few things and has become very slow. The doc recommended a brain MRI, there is some issue with the brain. Is this brain situation due to sugar, reversible?? We are yet to show the reports to the doc.

Cognitive and memory decline is caused by Diabetes. These are the typical symptoms of diabetes. It could also be because of her unhealthy weight her diabetes progressed quickly. She needs to be physically active.

I have type 1 Diabetes as does my father and brother Its a genetic curse, i was never obese, im almost 34 yo and im diabetic since i was 13 Everything was fine until i was 29.I developed diabetic retinopathy and last year i began showing signs of neuropathy as well. This disease is devastating. My dad had open heart surgery when he was 36…when je developed diabetes he was 7 and it was relatively unknown, he almost died. He is now 58 and doing fine thankfully

Since they started adding high fructose corn syrup to soda pop, salad dressings, ketchup, barbeque sauce, and other foods the rate of Diabetes in this country has skyrocketed. There is a movement among many healthcare professionals to have it banned and go back to using real sugar instead. It would sure make a difference.

See Dr. Sten Ekberg on youtube. Basically you can cure prediabetes with zero-carb keto and intermittent fasting. It will be very difficult for a couple of weeks to transition to this. And some of it may seem counter-intuitive. You'll be living off of saturated fats and protein for about six months. Many will claim I speak blasphemy and shout my opinions down, but the results speak for themselves in me and many others.

These blanket statements trying to make Sugar/carbs/processed foods the root of all evil is absolutely false, and only proves that your primary source of info on this subject are from other misinformed youtubers/ticktokers. If you've ever read actual scientific and medical literature, and not cherry pick data, you will find that development of Type 2 Diabetes is a lot more complex and depends on various other factors. While I can't explain the entire set of literature in just one comment, I'll make the following points: While genetics can also be a factor, Obesity is actually the primary factor in developing Type 2 Diabetes. High levels of Free Fatty Acids highly contribute to insulin resistance. Other factors that increase insulin resistance is lack of physical activity, because the more active you are, the more insulin sensitive you become. It just happens that those who tend to be on the obese side of the spectrum are likely getting that way because they're over-eating calorically dense foods, which Includes (but are not exclusive to) excess of processed foods which also tend to be high in sugars and FATS (people seem to forget the high amounts of fats in those types of foods, but blame everything on carbs). Additionally, these individuals tend to be less active. Add all that together for the long term and you get higher risk of Type2. Inversely, as they lose weight and increase activity, you'll find that many can reverse Type2. It just happens that for many, one of the easier ways to lower caloric intake is to cut down on the carbs/sugars/processed foods. Thus, there is a misconception that those types of foods causes type2, and by cutting them out, it can reverse it. It's basically misunderstanding the association, and many of these youtube "doctors" are regurgitating bad info. They key to reversing Type 2 is to first, lower caloric intake, decrease the fat in your body, and be more active. You can still achieve that without the need to cut out carbs... although once you're type2, monitoring glucose levels will be more important so only then would you be more wary of your carb intake. Before that, no, carbs is not the main culprit. There's more to this, but that's the basics. And here's some additional logic for you. There are MANY Athletes, and other active individuals, that consume a high amount of carbs/sugars to fuel their activity. You'll find that the statistics for them to develope Type2 are a tiny fraction compared to those on the opposite side of the spectrum. And in those cases, where active, thin, individuals developed Type2, it has more to do with genetics, and other factors that require professional medical diagnosis. My resource for information is from Bio-Chemistry, physiology (learning how the body actually works) and reading scientific literature from unbiased and reputable sources (National Institute of Health being one of them). Not relying on youtubers.

You would need to explain how the Kempner Rice Diet of white rice, sugar, and fruit juice reverses T2 diabetes if your assertion is true. Unhealthy fats that accumulate in muscle cells that interfere with insulin receptor bindings has more explanatory power. Huge excess of refined carbs can be converted to fat via de novo lipogenesis, but the body much prefers to store excess calories of fat you eat instead of this conversion.

I was a pre-diabetic 3 years ago. I started off with taking medicines but it didnt work. I have made food changes in my lifestyle and my sugar has been normal since last 2 years. I drink at least 1 mug of black coffee a day, replaced half of my wheat flour intake with barley flour, and the most important thing that healped is the powder of the leaves of moringa tree. Most people in west may not agree with me, but trust me if you all know how good moringa leave`s powder is for general health you would pay 100s to get them. Seacrh the internet and you will find its health benefits, or ask me in the comments.

Are you diabetic on medication other than insulin? Vegetables like potato, grains like wheat, send my glucose levels soaring but medication gets it back down too low at times. I'm stuck with non starchy vegetables. I limit 1-2 serves fruit a day. I eat lots of nuts and have to use meat to balance my bowel movements as eating liquid absorbing starches spikes blood glucose. A1C is an average. Get yourself a continuous glucose monitor. See what your "healthy" plant based diet is doing and use the readings as a guide, not your doctor/nutritionist/dietician. I'm interested in eating more plant but trial and error that doesn't work will destroy the body.

I am on a very low carbohydrate diet, such as no potatoes (sweet potatoes OK), no rice, even brown rice, etc. I eat fish or skinless chicken about the size of a deck of cards once every 2 weeks.

@@monicaperez2843 If your glucose readings are high, then you are not "controlling" with diet. You are being controlled with what you can eat and it's not working. Are you normal weight for your height? Do you have issues with your kidneys as the majority of type 2 diabetes medications are contraindicated. If what you are doing currently is causing eye and other issues discuss insulin with your doctor. I'm on insulin but try to keep the dose smaller by avoiding carbohydrates and no sugar. This means potatoes, beans and legumes etc are off the menu unless I up my dose (which is not recommended - the professionals like to control your insulin). Insulin does increase the possibility of weight gain. Going on insulin made me feel better which is what counts in life. It's used as a last resort, but I pestered my doctor until I got the stuff that made me feel better. I never suggested what, but went through the plethora of available drugs (this was before injectables were apparently available). Just don't give in to your professionals as insulin is usually a last resort when nothing else works and you are too sick for glucose reducing medications. But you need to show proof of your continuous readings otherwise your A1C contraindicates as your reading is in the safe range. Get a continuous glucose monitor, they are not cheap but will tell the story and support you in getting better health care and a more fun/appropriate diet aligned with your plant based approach.

I think they’re referring to metabolic syndrome. High blood pressure and high cholesterol may catalyze diabetes. It then becomes a vicious circle with these three feeding off of each other.

i woke up early this morning because my g-7 was yelling at me trying to tell me something!! i was having a very high reading again and this time it was extrememe! i tried takining my insuling early and of course that that takes a while, so it hasn’t worked yet, so i took humulog a my bs onlny whent up higher!! i’m re afraid! i took my oral meds early without food and hope that works! if it doesn’t change, i’m going to urgent care! i’m so afriaid of getting ketoacidocis again i had that about 11 years ago anwas in a coma and almost died. i’m always afraid of it! i hate diabetes! i’ve almost died because of it! i just looked at my g-7 receiver and its only gone down 3 points. i’m havingmy granddaughter take me to the urgent care. im not waiting any longer. i may be paniking, but i want to know! i have to wake her up now

Keep in mind that any damage to your body can get treated , and complications comes with years of not treating your diabetes properly over the years . Type two is reversible with healthy diet , exercise, taking your medication, and keeping your blood sugar level. It is not a death sentence!!!!

I am a type two diabetic and a friend of mine had just told me about a new product. It’s called.Glucolate it is a natural product the controls glucose I was shocked because all that you do is you mix it with water and let it sit for two minutes and then drink it before each meal I was astounded to learn that it was bringing down my A1c Now that I’ve been on it for almost a month I was averaging around 11.2 and now I’m averaging around 7.3. It is amazing. I wish there was more advertising so people would learn.

@@diplodocus3 You don't need a diet, you need to stop eating sugar and lower carbs like bread, eat more protein. I did this and lost 40 pounds without even trying.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for 52 years. I know this sounds harsh, but I have controlled my diabetes throughout this time. I didn't have a choice. I'm sorry, but type 2s can control their problems by controlling what they eat. Type 1s like me face the challenge through managing my diet, my blood sugar levels and I treat myself by exercising daily. As a result, I have no complications. .... why not type 2s?

Type 1 attacks every cell in the body 24/7 the feet eyes, sex organs and fingers are the first to go. Fact is Type 1 is usually heredity. Not caused by diet. WILL POWER appears to be the only path to a normal life.

Because type 2 diabetics usually have problems with increased appetite. My insulin resistance is due to my PCOS. Not my diet.

If people with type 2 diabetes could control their appetite, they wouldn’t have type 2 diabetes… good job for stating the obvious. Type 2 diabetes is a result of a poor diet which can be for many reasons. Sometimes it is just a sugar addiction or stress eating. Sometimes it’s a hormonal imbalance that causes you to crave fats and sugars.

People with ADHD are infamous for craving carbs. so there’s that. My mother is in denial; at 77 she feels like she deserves her treats, but doesn’t exercise at all. She gets chronic UTIs and will be seeing a specialist for that.

Cholesterol is only a concern in context of High carbohydrates , seed oil oxidative stress damage to lipids/proteins . Eat red meat and satuturated fat everyone, avoid, common raised chicken polyunsaturated fat..and seed oils, sugar

Some people develope tumors on there pancreas which help put out more insulin called insulinoma. When i eat too many complex carbs i go abit hypo.
