The ending is tragic cause if you think about it all this fight did was give Frisk more interest in doing more genocides now that they know things can change this much meaning Sans's failure just caused them another couple thousand resets... Either way i hope this gets finished soon cause it already looks peak

In the original last breath, while the human was victorious..They were caught off guard by Asgore and Flowey (Most likely because Sans and Gaster weakened them enough to pull it off) It probably would've been the same deal here, but since the story is being remade (AGAIN) it can go anywhere now.
