My tip: We have already raised our children, so every Spring we ask our 3 children what they need for their homes, themselves or their children every year. Then we go around to tag sales and to clothing sales and try to get things on their lists that they want but don't have time to hunt for. It is now a family tradition. We get to shop, but help our families save money at the same time.

This is a tip that you may not like at all. I was helping a friend plan her sister's wedding to be held in my friend's home. Well I had another friend who worked at a funeral parlour so I called her asking if they had any flowers they were getting rid off. She said yes and if I wanted them just come get them. Once I got them over to my friend's house we just rearranged the flowers in nice vases and tossed out ones like gladiolas which look too funeral. The bride never knew but was impressed with the lovely flowers.

Gosh Larry and Hope, are you sure you weren’t at our wedding? We had my brother take our pictures, my mother in law’s friend make the wedding cake, I wore my sister in law’s wedding dress, my whole family made a side dish to accommodate 75 people and the meat we bought but my dad’s friends at the knights of Columbus prepared and put out the meal. It was amazing and we were blessed to have so many people love on us❤️

I love this!! My hubby and I paid a grand total of $700 for our total wedding (including rings) and it was still the best day I could’ve ever hoped for! We had two professional photographers that “gifted” the photographs. We did a potluck and everyone brought from their different cultures. I got married in a Japanese kimono from a friend’s mother. It was all fantastic and we hosted about 40 people at the reception. 💞

I was able to purchase the dress right off the rack and no alterations were needed! Marrying the correct God-fearing God-loving partner is the best advice. Disharmony and Divorce are unscriptural and financially devastating. You both model the most amazing marriage. I was thrown away in divorce and I’ve stayed alone for the past 30 years to honor God and proceed alone. So few honorable men available to marry with God’s criteria. Your tips are helping me move towards retirement by watching my spending and practicing gratitude to God🙏 by modeling resilience with a goal to preach the gospel and help others.

I've done so many random things to save money... 😂 1. save jars to use as storage instead of buying plastic bags or tupperware 2. Use old veggies to make a ton of broth so they don't go to waste and it's basically a free ingredient 3. Cancelled my trash service and throw away my trash at my office (this actually made me start recycling more and making less garbage overall). Saves me about $20 a month.

Another idea for "entertainment" is to take a picnic to a park, eat at a picnic table, then play games, like Scrabble, card games, etc. Sometimes you can buy games at garage sales or after-Christmas sales and have fun with them while enjoying fresh air and sunshine.

Maybe lots of people already do this: whenever we buy fresh broccoli, cauliflower or asparagus, we always cut the stems into pretty small pieces and put in the freezer. When it’s stir fry night, we pull those babies out and use them up! I love making a meal out of things people usually throw away! Hope, if you haven’t done this already, I would love a video seeing how you use kitchen scraps to make other meals. We are a whole food plant based family like you guys so I know you have tons of scraps! I’m so appreciating your videos and enjoyed watching you on Chef AJ!

I’m not sure if creative ideas but my best tip to save money is Stay Home! Amazing how that one thing saves money. You don’t eat out, you don’t burn gas in your car. In my case I don’t worry about fancy haircuts or fancy nails. I use Shipt fir groceries. You pay a one time fee, and there are no delivery charge as long as your grocery bill is over $35. Because I don’t go to the store I am not tempted to make impulse buys. I can reference previous orders to easily order my regular items. It helps me really control what I buy. I’m retired so I only go out to Dr appts or pre-planned excursions with friends or family. I have saved a lot just by staying home.

My money saving idea, choose a career that you not only love, but has perks. I’ve been a dental assistant now for 38 years and my family and I have never had to pay for any dental work or yearly check-ups. This has saved us a ton of money. We also save if we have to go to a specialist. They find out I’m in dentistry and will usually give us a discount.

Hello Hope & Larry!! I feel so blessed to have found your channel!! We have used so many of your saving ideas!! I would like to share one that has saved our family so much money over the years!! We have a family member who works at a furniture/appliance store. Twice a year they sell there 'floor' models of just about everything!! She will call and have us come down to see if there is anything we would like to purchase. We have furnished our entire home with these appliances & furniture. And, as our boys would get married we would purchase furniture for them as a wedding gift for very little money!! So, if you have a relative, or friend that can make these connections for you it saves a lot of money!! (We do not purchase items every year, but it comes in handy when the washing machine is on its last leg....we hold out until the sale)!!

When my dad died my sister and I had to be frugal so - we went to the Legion and borrowed a Canadian Flag to drape his casket, we were also able to get a recording of "taps" to play at the grave site, and we went to a floral rental place and they had black roses in 4 foot tall vases they rented for $30 and because he was a veteran the funeral director (his dad and ours were in WWII together) and he was the one who told us that Veteran's Affairs would pay for some of the funeral. It was tasteful and did not cost the $25,000 he paid when his wife died.

When my stepdaughter was little, we used to make our own games and toys. We both enjoyed it, so we spend a great time together crafting. Our games were admired and we loved playing with them. The material was scraps of leftover fabric, cardbord boxes, plant material we found in the garden like leaves, sticks, strings, flowers, pebbles, beeswax, old tin cans or bottles.... Good times, and totally free. Reading or singing together is also something children really enjoy, and it is free. The important thing is to spend time together and pay attention to each other. Another way of having a good time for cheap is to cook a cheap meal and invite friends. Making music together or go swimming in a lake.

My sister went camping for her honeymoon and I mean tent camping. That was 25 years ago and every single year since for their anniversary they go camping. Thank goodness a few years ago they finally upgraded to a high quality waterproof tent, she was tired of waking up on a wet sleeping bag.

A good tent was one thing that Larry did spend money on. We had a North Face tent, The zipper broke on a rainy night in the Rocky Mountains. So worth the money he spent on the original tent.

Wow, hope you are like a fine wine, you get better with age! You really had your priorities right from the get go. As far as camping for a honeymoon, I would never. My tip is to hand wash your dishes and always use cold water for laundry. Cook in a crock pot and make enough for two or three meals: and eat leftovers until they are gone. I also have high maintenance sisters that constantly consume. I wait around until they get tired of their things and take what they no longer want. 🤣🤣

I have to be honest. We rented an AirBNB for vacation this year. The selling point for me was the hot-tub. We still have the tent and claim that we may just go camping after the last of the boys leaves home, but I'm thinking that I've gotten accustomed to the hot-tub option. LOL!

My other tip, which i consider a cheap hobby, is instead of buying flowers, see what you can find in nature. For example, a winter-sleeping twig from a tree or bush in your garden can bring sooo much joy when you take it inside, give it some water, a fresh cut every now and then, and every day you can watch it slowly wake up, showing its alert little greens, giving promise of the arriving spring :)

I love it! What we do to save money (hard to remember actually because it has become so normal) - make a budget every month and stick to it - try to find stuff we need second hand first - not partake in the weekly fish take out at my husbands work (it adds up quick!) - we don’t own a dryer, we line dry everything, even in winter. We have drying racks for indoors - LED lightbulbs everywhere - we buy the most energy efficient appliance we can find when the old one breaks down - meal plan according to the discounts of the store - no cable television, only internet for 18 bucks a month. We have a Chromecast so we can watch KZbin on our 2009 not-smart television. - we buy most furniture secondhand. I’ve found the best tactic is to bid 5 euros for furniture online. The only people who agree are upper class that don’t the money, have bought great quality and maintained it really well. Excuse any spelling mistakes or weird sentences. I’m Dutch, English is my second language
@UndertheMedian
@UndertheMedian 3 жыл бұрын
You did a great job on the English! We had a non-smart television until a couple of years ago. The only reason we finally upgraded was that our son found a ridiculously good deal on a clearance television and bought one for himself. We like his so much that we went and bought one for ourselves. Otherwise, we would still be watching our very old television (that we found out to the curb.) Thanks for your great comment.

Don't you hate it when a restaurant charged extra for an extra plate? Just a plain empty plate to use to share a meal. It's a shame. I won't go to any restaurant who does this and I also will not go to a restaurant who automatically adds the tip to the bill. I tip very well, but I want it to be my choice...a tip should not be automatic, it should be based on service.

My husband and I have been married 4 years and we were on our own too. We opted to have a court house wedding and all of our friends and family took photos throughout the whole experience and sent them to me. It was so cool looking at the different perspectives depending on where guests were standing in the courtroom. Then we treated our 20ish guests to a sit down dinner at a nice restaurant and it ran us about $1,300 for everyone to order drinks and dessert and then of course dinner. I still wore my poofy white wedding dress and he wore a very nice suit. I never regret the small wedding, although I am still looking forward to a honeymoon someday 😉. 11 years later. Lol. I'm just thankful for the man of God that He gave me and a beautiful marriage.

I have shopped using canvas bags for the past 35 years, but now use Kroger's pickup service to avoid exposure to COVID, so must take plastic bags home with me. Like you, I donate them to our favorite thrift store. But I still make beautiful reusable bags for others as gifts; soon we'll all be able to bag our own groceries again. Decorator fabrics for the bags come from an upscale thrift store -- not many other buyers, so there's still a nice selection after I've waited til it's marked down to half price.

1. There are quite a few things I buy at the grocery store that come in fairly heavy duty resealable plastic bags, eg dried fruit, oatmeal, frozen fruits, nuts - the bags are sturdy enough to wash out and can be reused multiple times for leftovers or to subdivide and freeze bulk items. 2, Use store bags as garbage bags, and use produce bags to scoop cat litter into. Even though I habitually use reusable cloth bags for grocery shopping, there are enough occasions when I receive a plastic bag. I bought kitchen size bags and lare size garbage bags only once each over the last seven years. 3. Reuse pickle jars, salsa jars, jam jars, etc - I have never bought a glass storage container, and I still have a dozen extra jars to give away every couple of years. The only problem is that sometimes you need to wash the lids very thoroughly several times to get rid of the lingering pickle smell.

I always buy ahead for my son at yardsales in spring/summer. Snow boots and winter coats are great finds! I usually buy two pairs of boots. One in the size i think he will be and the next size up just in case. Don't like to pay $15+ for one pair he may never use in a mild winter. And when you do need them before a snow storm they sell out quick at the big box stores, so forget getting them later! Love the tips! And the bloopers 😊.

For my sister's wedding my friend's father was a retired photographer so we hired him to take pictures and we developed the film, also had disposable cameras on the tables for guests to use. We used the candle holders for Christmas on the ends of the pews and added bows. My mom made her dress and mine, makeup was done by a woman at church as a gift and the women's circle made all the food, sandwiches, fruit, salads, veggies, cookies, etc. It was an afternoon wedding and it was nice. The women's circle and the pastor refused their payments so that was donated to the church.

Yes please, lots more tips. You are both beautiful people. I scrump for fruit, herbs and what ever else is growing. I use cloth pieces for wee only. Hang clothes on the line always. Use chook poo on the garden as a liquid that has been soaked in water for a couple of weeks. I crush up the egg shells and take those in vegan capsules as a calcium supplement. I make by own tinctures for medicine, and grow the herbs for these as well. Like you both I will pick-up anything of value from the side curb. I also shred used paper to use as cat litter. I look for old blankets, even the ones they put out for animals, cleaned up and patched or soaked I make those into patchwork quilts. I sew, mosaic and paint. These are just some of the ways I try to keep the coast of living down along with doing my fun hobbies and crafts. Look forward to the show where you talk about other peoples ideas on saving. Here are some ways to save that I found…. Look for deals wherever you go. Some examples… some crafting and sewing things are more expensive at the traditional shops so I look for fabric I can use at thrift stores and sometimes in the form of clothing and you can repurpose one item and use it creatively in another way. Garage and estate sales are great places to find costume jewelry, kitchen ware, cleaning supplies and feminine or elderly care products. It is okay to haggle… but be nice about it… if you’re already getting a great deal don’t, but if it’s slightly more than you want to spend it doesn’t hurt to ask if they will take a bit less. For example a desk for $50 and you ask if they’ll take $40. I do this on offer up, too. However, be aware not everything is a deal so shop around. Sometimes Ross or Marshals are cheaper than a garage sale or thrift store. I also stopped getting my nails done and no one seems to think I’m less attractive for it, lol. Blessings all!

We camped on our honeymoon as well. We packed 2 nice place settings, the leftovers from our wedding reception and the top layer of the cake. We even packed the brass candlesticks and candles to have our meals by candlelight on the picnic table. The most memorable part was the first night away, my in laws had a pop-up camper on a wooded lot set up for us to be alone. My father in law forgot to put the supports under the 4 corners, so when we climbed into bed, the entire trailer went on a nose drive. We laughed for the longest time and still laugh about it, 37 years later.

I love all of these tips! I love that you made the most of your wedding day and honeymoon, and made it extra special. Unfortunately, I see people spend thousands of dollars on weddings, and start off their marriage with debt. I too will wear outfits more than once if I don’t get sweaty or dirty. My 19 year old daughter is the only child left living at home with me, and we will always share a meal (some restaurants will spilt the meal on two separate plates for you), and we always order water to drink. Sometimes we will ask for a small bowl of free lemon slices, and use a little sugar to turn our water into lemonade. We always leave a generous tip as well. I would love to see a video of your 20 tips for dining out. 😊 p.s. that record player is amazing! How fun!

We had a luncheon of cold cuts, rolls, cheese, crackers, crudites and salads. We had soft drinks, punch and champagne to toast with. Our wedding cake was from a local bakery. They made us a sheet cake but decorated it like a wedding cake. Much cheaper than a tiered cake. As a wedding gift my sister paid for us to spend a night in a hotel. CLOTHING: Outer clothing such as sweaters and jackets can easily be worn more than once, and if you only have worn an item for an hour or so such as going to a wedding, church service, or shopping, it can be worn another time. PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS: I make mats for shelters and bags for carrying items. I also make rugs that can be placed on the porch for rain or snow boots as well as just inside the house. All the plastic items can be easily hosed down--and mine have last for years and years. EXERCISE (sort of): As clothing is taken from the dryer, immediately fold and put the clothes away. You get in a lot of steps that you can count as apart of your walking routine. Drying clothes on the line can be done the same way because you have to wash like-items together, and the clothes dry at different intervals so when you go out to hang something up, there is usually an item that is dry which you can take down and put away. CURB SIDE TREASURE: When I started at a new school, I found there were NO book shelves in the classroom, and I taught reading! Eek! Happen to come upon two FREE very solid and UGLY wooden shelves which fit the bill for all the books I had to have in my class. I scrubbed them down and painted them. They have lasted longer than any other shelves that I got later. ENTERTAINMENT: My husband plays the guitar so we have a great time with music. He and other musicians from around town get together and just jam. People come from all over to hear a free concert of various music. The audience can sing along or just listen.
