​@@sunbeamless I spent about 15 or more years wishing I could float in a tank, thought I was prepared for it, and when I did actually go I felt agitated and claustrophobic, but gave it a second and third try and also felt bored. Then I looked into buying a tank, but the maintenance and hygiene are difficult. I would do it in my own self-controlled environment, or not at all. The reality wasn't like the presumed experience.

One of my favorite imaginary stories to fall asleep to, is pretending I’m living and working in a deep water station, and having a background sound like this makes it feel more realistic. I close my eyes, and imagine i’m there, just getting off my shift in the hydroponics section, and heading to the cafeteria, before going to my cabin, which is also an escape pod, if anything ever goes wrong down there.

I find it relaxing because I've been in swim team as long as I can remember, and while noises on the surface (especially in a natatorium) can cause sensory overload, going underwater can be incredibly calm. Though while deep sea squid can't hurt me, I'd rather not be around anything down there...lots of venomous bois. I'm more comfortable with my athletic ability underwater than over, so that might contribute-being underwater is just me in my element! But with fears of drowning, claustrophobia, thalassophobia, and more...I understand it's not for everyone. 😅

I lived in Cheiti Scalo Rome Italy. Heading to Pescarra almost daily to be in the ocean, walking on a ridged bed of sand under water that never got deeper than my waist. Summers in Sicily with family, diving off the rocks to the deepness of the ocean. Starfish and muscles clinging to the rocks. Fish ive never seen before floating by me. I always searched for something new, large though ya know. Being a kid i dreamed of swimming with whales, friendly sharks lol and wished upon the starfish that id suddenly turn into a mermaid because i was secretly lost years ago by my mermaid family. Listening to this..ahhh the memories. Thank you very much. Im now almost 50, live in ON Canada and can only see the ocean in my memories. You've made them so vivid😊

For me, the relaxing part is how water slows sound waves, muffling everything. It mimics the feeling of quieting my thoughts or quieting the outside world for a bit. I envision myself eyes closed just floating through water, some distance away from the surface. I’m imaging myself in 3rd person though, so my brain knows it’s fake. And it’s more about the symbolism of it. Of, just for a second, being surrounded and hearing nothing but the deep ocean, where my problems can’t reach me. Where I’m far away from all the noises above water and on land.
