People need to stop worrying about the lawn and worry about the bay

the biggest problem with the Barnegat Bay lies between the Manasquan inlet and the Barnegat Inlet. there is 25 miles separating the two inlets. Mother Nature has pushed through an inleta few times before in Mantoloking and we keep plugging it up.the last time this natural inlet broke through was Hurricane Sandy. leave that Inlet open so the bay can properly flush and build a bridge over it for Route 35 traffic and that they will be just fine.

When sandy pushed thru, isnt that how the back bays overflowed? How would keeping it open help? Thx

So sad. I spent the best summers of my life clamming Barnegat with my Grandfather, bringing up 3 bushel baskets in less than a few hours. I've oftentimes though of how I'd like to see it again (it's been 31 years since last I was there), but I think it'd break my heart.

In the 1960's crabs were plentiful . Now ? Too much building and boat traffic . The shore is stressed-out I think . People are destroying the Jersey shore and this Bay is feeling the impact of the over population .

Wow so sad to see about the place I grew up in going to ruin. I don't understand with all the rain, great soil and warm springs and summers why people need to use chemicals to fertilize their lawns? I live 2500 hundred miles away and was in Island Heights last year and the pollutions washing up was disgusting. What a shame. We used to go crabbing in Ocean Gate an catch dozens in a few hours.

Here we are 7 years later after this report and the bay is doing just fine. If you listen to the report, you will here them mention "government". That is all you need to know!

I have no idea what youre talking about at all. Especially since sandy the bay feels deader than ever. When I was a kid in the 90s and early 20s I used to go crabbing claming and fishing in the bay almost all summer long. I definatly noticed a decline in the late 2000s but nothing like after sandy, you may as well not even go out half the time because you dont catch anything and everything you do catch is all too small to keep. Plus all the sand that washed into the mouth of the bay just made more traffic in the bay itself because nobody goes into the ocean anymore.

You're completely right! I spend a ton of time in the Great Bay, and ever since sandy hit there's barely a sign of life out there. We used to catch 5-7 keepers a day, now we're lucky if we even get a bite! The bay has changed drastically in the past few years.

I've been fishing since I was six years old off Long Beach Island and 60 now. I can take you to a place will you will get plenty of clams no problem been that way for years. I have fish those back Bays of Barnegat I find this video incorrect in the reporting through experience.
