Underwater Surf Photography Session / Setup / BTS

In this video I will take you on an underwater surf photography shoot. I will discuss the setting intensions for the shoot, what gear I chose to use, what settings and the technique in taking them.
I will show you some video vision of the shoot and then get back in the editing room and discuss how some of the pictures came out. It's an "in the field" or "behind the scenes" style video that can hopefully give you a small insight into my process with this style of shooting.

Hey Renee, thanks for your question. Getting focus when shooting in and under the water is challenging, thats why I have a dedicated module in my full length water photography course devoted to it (I think 5 or 6 seperate videos addressing the issue) so its going to be hard for me to get you up to speed in a KZbin comment section. Yes, if it is to do with flash in the water it will be included in the water photographer course. I plan to do a flash on land course, but anything I do in the future on flash with water housings will be in the full length course. 😀🤙🏽

Hi Tom - thanks for the information you provided here - great video and photos. I have a question for you - I am shooting with a Sony A6400 crop camera - I have a wide lens - 10-18 is not fisheye but wide. Will it fit this type of photography?

Hey mate, Yes you don't need a fisheye lens, but a wide lens is the go. Your lens set a 10mm would be the same as about 16mm on a full frame camera so that is plenty wide enough to have a go at it. My shots in this video were taken at 15mm so pretty close. Hope you get some clear water to try it out soon

Hey Tom, what are the white rectangular patches on the inside of your dome port? Is that used to battle condensation or is it for something else?

Hey Jack, they are just sticky double sided tape to attached a non reflective black cloth to prevent some reflection, but I rarely have a problem with that, so I don't put it on that much

Thanks Damien, appreciate mate... the video footage was shot on a GoPro Hero 8. I attach it to the top of my camera water housing.
