So cool... I’m from Kauai and lived on Oahu briefly as a teenager. I went on a field trip to Pearl Harbor to see USS Arizona... and wasn’t really interested at the time. Now it’s very fascinating to me. I love the ocean, but I’d be so scared to go next to the sunken ships... idk why! Just the thought of it being under water creeps me out.. so cool to watch. Thanks.

It would have been helpful if there had been some narration as to where the divers were on the ship and what they were looking at, perhaps on a future dive they can do this.

She was supposed to be drydocked on the following day, Monday, to get prepared to become a training battleship, so she most likely would have been converted back to a regular battleship. Her target ship days were finally over as of December 5, according to the diary of her captain. I consider Utah to be a sunken battleship like the other 4 that were sunk that day. If she were not damaged she would have definitely been rearmed and participated in WWII.

The possible use of her for her real original intent is wonderful. Thank you for the message and the information

the confusing thing about this wreck is that I can never tell where on the wreck they are because of lack of recognizable spots on it.

It's always nice to see The Utah of course but it's very hard to make any sense of what you see underwater because what wasnt crushed or torn off when she rolled was cut off where she is now.

Full fathom five thy father lies; Of his bones are coral made; Those are pearls that were his eyes: Nothing of him that doth fade, But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange. Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell: Ding-dong. Hark! now I hear them-Ding-dong, bell. Rest in peace, gentlemen. Generations later, a very grateful citizen says thank you for what you had to give up so that I might live. Rest in peace.

David H, as former Navy, I loved this very classy tribute you post here! I even "screen-shotted" a picture of this to remember. What would be the source of this awesome prose?

Mr dodge man you should do some research...she wasn't hit by bombs.she took torpedo hits and in about 12 mins she capsized and completely rolled over..the damage u see is where everything was sheered off as she rolled over.

What they are trying to say is that the Utah was built about 1908, and her technology was so far out of date that she was useless as a capital ship. The other battleships were built during around WWI and the technology had changed by leaps and bounds in those few short years. There is a video on youtube showing her used by radio control while other ships and planes took shots at her in the 1930's That will give you an idea of how out of date she was.. Personally I wish every ship and piece of hardware could be saved as a reminder of the price of freedom. But in midst of the priorities of a whole new war, she no longer had anything to offer. During the Pearl Harbor Attack, you can be sure that the crew would have done everything possible to save her, but with two torpedos in her side and rolling over, her fate was sealed. The crew made a website that tells much of her story. Feel free to check it out.

It was pointless to save Utah, Utah was already a target ship

Utah was not an unarmed target ship. She was the sole anti-aircraft gunnery training ship in Hawaii for the battleships, cruisers, and destroyers. Utah was armed with the most state of the art and modern AA guns that even the battleships didn't have. She had numerous 5" guns and even 20mm guns and 40mm Bofors guns that weren't added on all battleships until 1943-44. She was the first ship taken out at Pearl Harbor and the Japanese accidentally prevented her guns and her talented AA gun crew from taking part in the air defense and this helped the first wave to be able to successfully torpedo and bomb Battleship Row. The battleships all were complaining about how horrible their AA guns were. Utah's AA guns were much, much better and this would have been an extreme training session for her crew. On three of her turrets right now the Navy left behind her 5" guns on top of the turrets like they were stationed back then and like she is ready to defend Pearl Harbor.

Monokuma Utah was a mistaken target.Junior Japanese officers were told not to attack vessels of this type because they were not deemed valuable targets.Still she took two torpedoes and flooded quickly.Chief water Tender Peter Tomich stayed behind to keep the lights on as long as possible so others could escape and he’s still inside the ship.

@@sgt.grinch3299 At least Biden wouldn’t call the sailors who died here, “suckers” and “losers.” AMERICANS died here in 1941. Republicans, democrats, and independents. What does any of this have to do with the election in 2020 anyway? Just shut your pie hole.
