It is amazing to see it. Going to it on the boat everyone was talking, laughing etc.having a good time. Once we stepped foot on the memorial everyone went silent. Thinking about what happened back then. These were kids mostly 18 ,19 or so. In beautiful Hawaii where they no doubt felt safe as could be. My cousin was on one of the ships. He did survive with out a scratch. It is awesome and erie to see the ship in the water knowing so many never made it out of there. Thank Elvis for this memorial

I’ve built models of her and I use an Arizona in world of warships. Tragically I’ve never had the honor of visiting this place of honor, I intend to do so long before I leave this world. Yet one of many reasons I do not want to die by covid 19. As to your cousin and to you if you served I thank you for what you did and for why you did it. Freedom does not come cheap

Thank you for posting and a few moments of silence while filming was very respectful. I was stationed at Pearl while on a submarine and while at port I would see the Arizona on the right and Diamondhead on the left. Just a reminder of those lost and the pride that we have serving our country.

it's so surreal. having been stationed in Hawaii and visiting this historic place, reminds me how it must have been to not only been in Hawaii at that time but to be serving onboard her. RIP shipmates!

I visited the Arizona in 1986 as a Marine, I was with the Marine Detachment from the ENTERPRISE. I have some photos of the oil coming out of the hull, all most the whole Marine Detachment died on the ship, I believe 82 died. I have a number of relatives from both sides of my family still on board. RIP 🇺🇸

@@obamabinboolin8128 The question was: How many parents died knowing their sons were already dead, having gone down with the USS Arizona on December 7th, 1941. My guess is anywhere between 1500 to 2000 (parents) considering the number of lives lost in the sinking was 1,177

If you get away from Ford Island and dive in Pearl Harbor the water has a tea like stain to it. Go out side of the harbor and the water is clear. Around Ford Island it is cloudy I was lucky enough to tour the memorial while stationed at Schofield Barracks back in the mid 70s. It is a solemn place.

I too have heard that, and it is a touching sentiment. When you stop to think about how much oil was on the ship, and even after the conflagration at and after the bomb blast, and the deterioration of the steel, to still leak oil to this day (right now, it's been over 79 years), it is quite remarkable and perhaps lends credence to this theory. I personally have seen the oil drops come to the surface and dissipate, and watching that filled me with a sense of connection to the souls onboard, and with a sense of calm, as if they were telling me they are at peace. Some folks may say that's hokey, but I pity people like that. As a retired Navy Chief, every man on that ship is my brother, my shipmate, and we share a bond not known by those who haven't served.

Jenelle Hudson No. the bodies of the some 1,000 sailors and marines are still entombed in the ship. the Navy did not want to take the ship out of the water because it was so badly damaged and they could not respectfully remove the bodies of the bodies, so they were declared buried at sea
@GJones462-2W1
@GJones462-2W1 6 жыл бұрын
They have traveled extensively inside the Arizona with remotes only. Never any divers. That is forbidden. There are no bodies to be seen, as the water, and marine life have disposed of their remains long, long ago. There are several inside-the-ship videos, here on KZbin, if you look around.

@@GJones462-2W1 The Park Service divers (the National Park Service is responsible for the Arizona today) can only go forward as far as roughly Turret 2. Anything further forward simply collapsed into itself from the explosion that killed her. There are line drawings that show her outline before and after the explosion. Everything forward of Turret 2 collapsed something like 30 feet like crushing a Coke can.
