Nice video! I absolutely agree. I miss some PS2 games and I wish they would bring back actual classics instead of games nobody has heard of. I wish they brought back GUN, Hitman series, Narnia games, Silent Hill, Goosebumps, Harry Potter, Scarface, I mean there’s literally HUNDREDS of games they could bring that I’d be so excited to replay and earn some trophies but at the moment, it’s sad to see the stage of PS2 games on PS4.

Ps2 and n64 were the 2 consoles I put the most hours into... I swear to God I probably have 2 years playtime on both... no regrets at all mid to late 90s and early 2000s I think was when gaming was at it's best, you had couch co op, no need for online to download a 35 dollar dlc for the game you already own because guess what they came out finished, storylines and campaign dominated the gaming industry so they made th games longer and more fulfilling, the only drawback is the graphics (I prefer the older graphics) being worse but that's really subjective. Idk that's just my 2 cents

This weekend I just bought a lot of digital games on PS4’s PSstore, and I also was disappointed with the variety of classic games. I can’t believe they had stuff like Chrono Trigger and Fatal Frame on the PS3 and didn’t bring it up again. And i’m making this comment literally 3 years after the release of your video, which just proves that nothing changed. I believe that the glimmer of hope is the PS5 sharing the same online store as the previous generation, so the new one will probably bring more to the table.

You know after so many years I’ve decided that I’m going to buy a ps2 the original. I still can’t believe that I skipped so many ps 1 and 2 games just to get on the higher graphics bandwagon with the ps 3. Lately I have been replaying resident evil 2 and dino crisis for the ps 1 and I’m not stopping. I’m literally having a blast. I can’t wait for alone in the dark ps 1 thats coming by post. Now as for personal tastes especially in terms of aesthetics with home console exterior design, I would say the ps 2 original was the most interesting looking consoles I ever had the pleasure of using as well as the culture at the time of its prime and the amazing library of games. Compared to the ps3 which wasn’t that bad but the ps 4 never ceases to put a sad face on me. Its really an annoying looking thing with arguably amazing games.

I think it’s such a darn shame that Sony seemed to have dropping the PS2 classics lineup. I think they have missed a trick not releasing the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games on the PS2 Classics lineup as the when the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games were remastered on PS3, they were riddled technical issues. I also would have liked to see the Sly Cooper games, God of War 1 and 2 and even the Sonic the Hedgehog games released on PS2 Classics. Those being Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity and Sonic Unleashed. Well, here’s hoping for the PS5 since the PS2 games released on the PS4 are playable on PS5.

To avoid the hassle getting to play Ps2 games on new consoles, I just hooked up my PS2, and get a PS2 wireless controller, and buy the ps2 games from the second market. Might even do that hard drive mod so I can boot without discs

If they added ps2 games to ps4, some players would notice how crappy and lazy some new games are today. Everything is done in already premade graphics engines and can take 2 people to make. Back in ps2 games they would write the codes by hand and have 200 people working on a single game. It gives me smiles the fact that most people in japan still prefer playing the ps2 and not ps4. According to a Sony Study made in 2017: About 75-80% of Japanese gamers prefer the PS2 than the PS4.

The number of ps2 classics on ps4 nothing short of pitiful. Thankfully, you can play a few more (like Ico) through PS Now but it remains a thoroughly disappointing state of affairs. No Silent Hill 2. No Max Payne 2. No Liberty City or Vice Stories. To name just a few.

The reason the PS1 digital library was so big was because the PS3 could play the actual software. Maybe the emulation on the PS4 is not that good so Sony stopped releasing the PS2 games.

looking back on this with sony bringing ps1 and psp games to the ps4/5, its nice to see that they actually let (at least some) games purchased on the ps3 store be playable without buying again both lineups are getting a good amount of varied titles at a steady rate, which is a whole lot better than the _one_ ps2 game added since this video (ace combat 5 during january 2019, which even then could only be purchased by preordering ace combat 7) even more disapointedly is there were more games that were rated for it that didnt come out for whatever reason (ape escape 3, the summoner, summoner 2, alter echo, panzer elite action, splashdown rides gone wild, stuntman ignition), and based on the looks of it, well never get another ps2 entry on here

Sony needs to create an emulator for PS and PS2. Put it on PS store and sell it. That way they can make a little profit and we can enjoy these old consoles. I'm tired of all these ports that you have to buy again. Selling just the emulator, both sides win. And if it's a concern burning up the disk reader on PS4 running the game off DVDs(especially the blue-bottom disc) or CDs; just rip the game and save it to the hard drive.

I rather play ps2 games on ps3 instead and yes the Wii U had a great library of old games

What PlayStation should’ve done which would’ve been so much smarter is instead of making that shitty ps1 classic with only 20 or 30 games on it which weren’t even that great of a selection, they should just make an external PlayStation disc drive that can plug in Via USB and can read PS1,PS2 and PS3 discs, I would pay a great deal for something like that. Nice video by the way :)

Except the disc drive has absolutely nothing to do with why the PS4 can't play PS1, PS2 or PS3 games. It already can read the discs. The issue is the different architecture. Think of it like this, all of the Playstation's speak different languages. In order for a PS4 to play a PS2 game, it would have to be able to 'speak its language' and 'understand' how the game works. This is what emulation is. Emulators act as 'translators' so the PS4 can understand the other language and play the game. However, there may be performance issues (Jak & Daxter PS2 classic on PS4) as there may be mistakes in the 'translation'. The PS4 actually has a PS2 emulator that can play more PS2 games than you can actually download from the PSN store. Problem is you need to mod your PS4 so it can play your PS2 games because regular users can't use the emulator like you can on Xbox One. It's probably the simplest way to explain it but it's not too different from an English speaker trying to learn, understand and then speak Spanish for example. It may be alright with imperfections but take years to get right. The other option is to do what the PS2 did for PS1 games - include the PS1 hardware inside the PS2. The NTSC 20/60GB PS3's also did this and had a PS2 inside them. In this case, the games will play almost 100% identically to the actual PS1/PS2. The issue though is cost and extra heat. Tough choice but I'd rather have a limited edition PS4/PS5 with full hardware BC for older Playstations. That way those that want the feature can pay extra and then Sony can just use an emulator to save production costs.
