With the impending arrival of beastgrave tomorrow our second game lands! This time a first of its kind for the channel, before the BAR list there was the faction fraction, this time we're using just the Warband specific cards for each warband! Lets see how they do!

I've been playing beastman now for about 4 or 5 games and I do concur with Pete's assessment of you can't be straight forward with them. You have to pick your engagements and the warband cards don't work well together. However once you add in several of the good universal objectives like shortcut, supremacy, pit trap, and snare they start putting out quite a bit of damage quickly.

You don’t need to hold the objective in no mans land to score Last Rights (or the Guardians similar objective Reclaim the Lamentiri) - it’s just all the objectives in one player’s territory (not their board) - I often place 1 or 2 in the neutral area rather than have 3 on my side because of this when playing these factions.

Take heart Pete! Your final victory will be all the more sweeter :) Sadly it seems that a faction only card match up is pretty crap for the Beastmen. Though I dread to think what a Eyes of The Nine Faction only deck would look like, as their cards suck too! I would treat the beastmen just like the Godsworn Hunt. Fire and forget. Have your three best fighters up front, harder to be killed and easy to get kills. And have the three weaker guys at the back to finish off anyone who gets hit by the two damage fighters. Also I would have mainly ploys which add dice and damage to the Beastmen. As uninspired thier dice suck. If I was to make a Beastmen deck I would do this... Objectives Bestial Cunning Despoilers Killing Blow Raiders Warning Shot (Restricted) (Great for your crap archers, as they WILL miss! and if they don't then hozar!) Branching Fate (Mainly for when you are inspired as everyone rolls three dice) Martyred (great because they all die easily) What Armour? BloodShed Proven Superiority Keep Chopping (should be scorable all the time, charging a archer onto an objective still counts) Opening Gambit Ploys (9) Baying Anger Blood Taunt Vile Invaders Galvanised Upper Hand (Restricted) (A must have for beastmen, as hitting is very important!) Sidestep Snare Haymaker Pit Trap (restricted) Gambit (1) Terrifying Visage (and easy spell which can be useful to keep the leader alive) Upgrades Blood Crazed Cursed Flint Heedless of Pain Eldritch Ward Great Fortitude Great Strength (Great for anyone, even better with Sword Breaker) Predatory Instinct (for the leader or Draknar if they are still alive by then, to use Snare) Potion of Rage Sudden Growth (restricted) Sword Breaker The idea is... Lots of cards which add dice Blood Taunt Galvanised Haymaker Potion of Rage Sword Breaker (great for any of the crap characters at the end, a three hammer two damage is not to be sniffed at!) Some cards which help with What armour? Cursed Flint (also a three dice attack for Branching fate) And the Leader and Draknar have cleave when inspired. And the push ploys help to score objectives which require you to be in the opponents territory. The best way to score Raiders is to use ploys to push models into the opponent's halve, then use your next activation to move a model across. All easier said than done and I'm not master of the game of course. Of course this is all theory work so in three-four weeks when we have all had plenty of games this list might be complete bollocks! xD And Snare and Pit trap mean even your crap archers can do a two damage attack (or one if it only pushes them) Keep up the good work Pete! These games do you not reflect your actual skill, as you did well at the Grand clash and gave me some damn good games too :)

Great report, as always! They should have definitely given at least 4 wounds and 2 shields when inspired to the Despoilers' "heavy hitter" (can't remember the name yet!). That would have counterbalanced the Centaur+Hornman situation a little bit. Still, they're definitely a "martyred" type of warband ; )

18:20 re: Battle Cry, are Pushes still restricted to the three hexes furthest away from the attaching fighter? Does this restriction still apply for non-attacking Pushes? If so, can’t Push that Ungor into the lethal hex. I’ll check the new rulebook tomorrow when I pick up my copy 😊 *edit* never mind, just checked Nightvault rules and what I said only applies to being Driven Back. 👌

We did wonder that ourselves but like you say the furthest away rule is only for driving back not pushes. There is a beastman specific card that allows you to push someone X hexes based on how many wounds youve taken, could be handy to drive someone back and forth through lethal hexes!

Battle cry is adjacent fighters anyway. So I moved up close using pounce in the power step then in my activation used battle cry.

Sharkey 2112 I did ask myself the same question. You could also check the definition for “push” in the new rule book.

Good game guys, Pete needs to start praying to the dice gods lol, at least he scored more glory this time,you shoild try a dreadfane warband against a beastgrave warband to see how balanced they are ?

Im gonna start sacrificing things to the dice gods, starting with Robin! 😄 I reckon that while the hunt may do alright against the mournflight, and possibly could beast the stormcast pretty easy I think the mournflight would walk (fly?) all over the stormcast and the beastmen, some definite unbalanced warbands here based solely on warband only cards!

I agree with the majority of comments here on the faction cards for the Beastmen. They really do suck in comparison with the Wild hunts cards. I won a few a few times but only by keeping the leader and the heavy hitter alive and using the ritual counters to re-roll dice. They need more upgrades to increase damage for the other chaff. I also found that once the wild hunt player applies the card that reduces the damage by one to a minimum of one (cant remember the name) it makes it really difficult to win the game as the majority of the fighters only cause one or two damage. TWO SPELLS for the Beastmen are so lacklustre. Still really enjoying it though, just had high hopes for the faction deck.
