Ohio State had that one loss and a conference championship - and yeah, they were undeniably a better team than Iowa; and lost in a trap game right after a huge win over a top 8 opponent, didn't come to play, Iowa did. It even happened to Bama once when they got smoked by Utah (though in their defense, they didn't give up when down by 21 despite still losing - the mentality of Ohio State was more disappointing when they got behind that much unlike how Bama kept with it; they kept driving, and kept shooting their foot back off). Either way, the case for them getting in was greater than Alabama, as Skip laid out. And I think that is the difference of Ohio State having another ring right now or Alabama, pure bias on the committees part. We need an 8 team playoff so at least these issues can be proven on the field. At least if you are arguing for 9th or 8th best team, you aren't almost ever going to be saying 'well they might be the best team' - no, but on 5th or 6th on some years, yeah - it can happen. They deserved a shot.

Skip’s point about Saban is that in every big game his defense gets torched. Last i checked Saban isn’t just a defensive coordinator. He is the head coach and he is judged by wins and losses. 5 national titles. I’m an OSU fan but I’m not blind. Saban is the best coach in the country and Alabama was better than OSU this season. The FBS/Div. 1 post season is broken. It has been broken since it's inception. It was broken when it had writers picking the national champion where you would have two or three champions the same year. It was broken when it had the BCS and a mixed bag of computers, polls, and committees selecting the top 2 teams, and it's broken now with this farce of a playoff system. Five "Power" conference Champions and you only represent 3 out of 5 of them with 4 slots. What playoff systems has champions of conferences/divisions not get a chance to play in the playoffs? Why does the playoff selection committee discuss whose is selected in secrecy? Why isn't the selection determination discussion broadcast live for the world to see? Why the smokey backroom conversations? College football playoffs is a joke. Imagine needing a committee to determine who is going to the NFL, MLB, or NBA playoff, it's insane. Even FCS playoffs are determined on the field. The NCAA will not create a structure for college football directing the universities to "this is how you will schedule, and this is how the playoffs are determined...ON THE FIELD". The NCAA doesn't want to give up control of it's cash cow to on field performance and neither do the universities. UCF went undefeated, are in the FBS, and have no chance of making the playoffs. People will say, look who they play, yet not say that UCF should then be disqualified from FBS football due to their weak schedule. FIFA does a better job determining the World Cup matches than the corrupt NCAA has with college football. tl:dr: The NCAA is corrupt and inept.

N B SEC is weak this year and they knew what they were doing in scheduling Oklahoma. Beating Oklahoma was what got them in the playoffs last year. It's a risk they took and it burnt them. However, the more I think about it Bama has played a very weak schedule this year. Honestly they both have major weaknesses. It just rubs me the wrong way when Ohio State fans whine about deserving a spot when they lost by 30+ to Iowa and got destroyed by Oklahoma at home.

Wtmf is the criteria and why do the goal posts shift? "The Best Four Teams" is not quantitative, it's qualitative, it's open to interpretation and bias. Set some rules and for God's sake let everyone one abide by them. Transparency to what the discussions are would go a long way. Who are they hiding these committee people from, the Mafia? The Supreme Court is more transparent in their rulings than this committee bullsh!t. You know why the NFL doesn't need a committee to determine who is going to the playoffs... because that's stupid and lends itself to bias rankings, eye tests, "this conference is better than that conference", quality wins, "they had a bigger points spread differential", "this was a better loss", and a whole host of other qualitative measures that don't mean anything until you play the game on the field. What we learned: Strength of schedule doesn’t matter. Don’t schedule good teams in your schedule resume doesn’t matter. Do like Alabama 4 non conference games and include a few FCS teams.

Both are speaking facts. So peep this, I grew up in a family that is roll tide all day long. But Im a Georgia fan 1st and my oldest brother was born in Ohio hence he is a Ohio State fan first. The rest are Bama 366 days of the year. I do think Ohio State was robbed. My brother, the Ohio State fan told me before the selection, "your Dawgs are in and we will finally meet up lil bro" yet afterwards he was livid and stated the same facts skip pointed out. And again, I'm a UAB grad, Bama raised guy but right is right...Bama made it off of their coach and past reputation.
