Interviewer; Kobe, toughest defender you've ever faced? Kobe; "Tony Allen, easy, he was not the one who is crying for help. Tony Allen will play straight up, be physical, I can score 10 straight in a row, he is not blinking, he still be physical not backing down, tony allen by far." And later gave T.A a shoes signed by Kobe Bean himself saying "The best defender I've ever faced." Real recognizes real. We miss you kobe...

KD also said Tony Allen was his toughest defender to deal with....doesnt that make him the greatest of all time?
@markd1598
@markd1598 4 жыл бұрын
@@Udon_Noodle I've watched a lot of Tony Allen's defense over the years, and one of his greatest advantages is being somewhat "undersized". His low center of gravity and low defensive stance made him an absolute load to handle. It made him incredibly difficult to back down in the post and it also helped his agility and lateral movement. That, in combination with his quick hands and competitive fire, made him a nightmare on defense. Michael Jordan always said it was the smaller guys who were tough to play against because they're hard to back down and they get "underneath" you and crowd your dribbling space. That's why he was such a nuisance to KD as well. Nowadays, with zone defense and switching being emphasized because of the rules changes and trigger-happy offenses, everyone wants the taller wing players with long arms... But make no mistake about it, the smaller dudes are ALWAYS the best on-ball defenders.

Number Runner That’s what made Kobe so special,,, it’s the little things one does to gain an edge. You best believe if I was ballin and I heard someone start speaking Spanish to me (not understanding Spanish) it would confuse me for a second at first like “tf?” And in that confusion, Kobe strikes.

Since his death Kobe has inspired two of his toughest competitors to be coaches (Gilbert Arenas and Tony Allen) . Hearing Tony get inspired to start an All Defensive Skill Academy off of the strength of Kobe’s admiration for his defence got me emotional bruh. Crazy how they never had a conversation. I was there for 08 and 10 and I saw this man give Kobe his all. Thing with Kobe is the greater the challenge the better he performed. That’s why I want to hear more from his competitors now more so than the ones that were close to him. Gilbert Arenas interview on the No Chill podcast is something else too. His Kobe stories !

THANKS SKIP AND SHANNON. Tony's accounts were a pleasure to hear and so informative. Tony of course didn't get recognized by most fans as dealing with Kobe as we were focuse on Rondo, Paul and KG then there was Perk as well. Kudos to Tony making a lot of those shot possible and being the quiet killer.

If you was really watchin ball when Tony was in the league you knew he was one of those guys that nobody wanted to play against every night until the day he retired. I love that Kobe gave him that respect because he truly deserved it. If All Star votes were predicated by defense Tony would be a first ballot HOFer.
