I just want to take a moment and give perspective to how ridiculous skip’s take is… Larry came in the league at 23 years old, Luka isn’t even 23 yet. Larry shot 37.6% from 3 on 2 attempts a game, Luka shoots 33.1% on 8 attempts a game. What’s even worse for skip, is that from his 2nd to 5th season, Larry shot 27% 21.2% 28.6% 24.7% from 3, but he’s such a great shooter right? Also just look at the shot Luka is attempting and making and look at Larry’s and tell me which one is better. And please don’t forget how great of a team Bird was playing on from the start and compare it to Luka’s. The fair comparison is to compare them at the same age. Birds overall career as a legend will easily overshadow almost anyone in their 3rd year in the NBA. The degree of difficulty on the shots Luka takes is something else... He is asked to do too much and he gets winded at the end of games. Luka needs help to stay fresher for the late game... He is certainly not afraid of the big moments, but this kind of mental toughness comes from losing and all Luka has done is win so far. He will come face-to-face with the fact that he needs to be better and deal with it. And he doesn't have a roof. He can elevate into the stratosphere and the guy cannot jump.

Skip is missing Shannon’s point. Is Luka Larry Bird right now? No. But he’s got the most potential out of any nba player right now to be, especially when you consider his age. To be honest, who was the last significant free agent that the Mavs signed? We’ve never had success attracting top free agents. Mavs have to lock up Luka and figure it out from there. And it’s Luka’s first big pay-day, no way he’d give that up. Maybe at the end of his career. Those assets aren't even good enough to trade for anything worthwhile. Only asset anyone wants at a fair price is Luka. And honestly, that's why I would've traded Luka. I don't see how Luka's value could ever be higher than it is right now. So, just like with stocks, you trade when the value has peaked. Build around KP who's value is at an all time low. For Luka you could've gotten a crazy deal from a team like the Warriors. Both their picks this year, future picks for years, Wiggins, and Wiseman. And they'd of even taken back some of these bad contracts so they could've paid someone like Lonzo instead of Hardaway. Which Mavs team do you think is better positioned to succeed. The current version, or a team with Lonzo, KP, and Ben Simmons? Would've even had enough money left over to go after some role players like Andre Drummond, Malik Monk, and/or Gary Trent. Seriously, the value difference between a rookie contract and a supermax are night and day in regards to team building.
